NEW MEXICO: Five Dead In Mass Shooting

On Gun Appreciation Day in New Mexico:

A male juvenile is in custody this morning following a shooting in the South Valley that left five people dead.  In an email from Bernalillo County officials, a shooting took place on Long Lane SW Saturday evening. Deputies were dispatched and found an adult male, an adult female and three children dead. All victims appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Multiple weapons appeared to have been used including an assault-type rifle. The investigation is ongoing and the identities of the victims have not been release, officials said.

Five Shot At Gun Appreciation Day

Nobody would have predicted this.

At gun shows in Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina, a total of five people were injured Saturday in accidental shootings as people flocked to the events on what was marketed as Gun Appreciation Day. In Ohio, Medina Police Chief Patrick Berarducci said a 62-year-old man was shot in the arm when his friend, a firearms dealer, accidentally discharged the gun he had purchased from an attendee.

The man was taken to a local Ohio hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his arm and leg. Berarducci said the man will probably stay in the hospital overnight, but described him as in “good spirits.” Berarducci told the Los Angeles Times that the gun show at the county fairgrounds was so busy that police had to limit the number of people entering. Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, a man at the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show shot his hand as he unloaded a .45-caliber semiautomatic, the Associated Press said.

Media Matters: Gun Appreciation Day Is Sponsored By White Supremacists

Gun Appreciation Day, a prominent effort backed by conservative media outlets and activists to oppose new gun laws, has accepted the sponsorship of a white nationalist organization to promote and mobilize supporters for its January 19 event. Gun Appreciation Day (GAD) is partnering with American Third Position (A3P), a political group that describes itself as representing "the unique political interests of white Americans." According to a party official, the organization is composed of "white nationalists." GAD's organizers ask supporters to visit "gun stores, gun counters, gun shows, and gun ranges to protest the Obama administration's post Sandy Hook assault on gun rights." The event has received significant media coverage and promotion in recent days.

The flyer for Gun Appreciation Day encourages "patriotic Americans" to come out and support the movement "Chick-Fil-A style!"  Congrats, Chick-Fil-A, you're now in bed with the Klan.
