Viral Photo Of The Day

The above tweet went wildly viral over the weekend. Yahoo News reports:
White-supremacist groups and African-American demonstrators clashed in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday, resulting in at least five arrests and seven people taken to hospitals as tensions — and temperatures — flared following the recent decision to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds. But it was the powerful image of a black police officer assisting a man wearing a black T-shirt bearing a swastika and struggling in the heat that resonated online. In the photo, the officer, Leroy Smith, is seen holding the arm of the unidentified protester as he helped him up the stairs and out of the sun. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Columbia hit a high of 98 degrees Saturday. The image was uploaded to Twitter by Rob Godfrey, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s deputy chief of staff. And it quickly went viral.
The man's shirt advertises a neo-Nazi hate group.

AFA Radio Host Bryan Fischer Tweets Link To Notorious White Supremacists Group

Yesterday Little Green Footballs blogger Charles Johnson busted hate group leader Bryan Fischer for tweeting out a link to the infamous white supremacists group New Century. Fischer then deleted the tweet and denied having sent it. And as it turns out, the stats Fischer posted are completely false. Hit the link for more. From the SPLC:
Founded by Jared Taylor in 1990, the New Century Foundation is a self-styled think tank that promotes pseudo-scientific studies and research that purport to show the inferiority of blacks to whites — although in hifalutin language that avoids open racial slurs and attempts to portray itself as serious scholarship. It is best known for its American Renaissance magazine and website, which regularly feature proponents of eugenics and blatant anti-black racists. The foundation also sponsors American Renaissance conferences every other year where racist "intellectuals" rub shoulders with Klansmen, neo-Nazis and other white supremacists.

Charleston Mass Murderer Researched The Same White Supremacists Group Once Addressed By FRC President Tony Perkins

As I have mentioned here many times over the years, in 2001 then Louisiana state Rep. Tony Perkins addressed (photo above) the Council Of Conservative Citizens, an SPLC certified racist hate group with active chapters in more than a dozen states including South Carolina. Perkins' speech to the CCC (formerly the White Citizens Council) came only five years after he was fined by the Federal Elections Commission for lying about an $82K payment to Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke. Per its website, the CCC opposes "race mixing" and considers black people "a retrograde species of humanity."

Today we learn that another fan of the CCC is Charleston mass murderer Dylann Roof. The Inquisitr quotes from Roof's just-discovered manifesto:
"But more importantly this prompted me to type in the words 'black on White crime' into Google, and I have never been the same since that day. The first website I came to was the Council of Conservative Citizens. There were pages upon pages of these brutal black on White murders. I was in disbelief. At this moment I realized that something was very wrong. How could the news be blowing up the Trayvon Martin case while hundreds of these black on White murders got ignored?”
The Inquisitr notes that the CCC's website has crashed today due to it now being linked to the Charleston massacre. The SPLC maintains a lengthy file on the CCC, here's an excerpt:
The danger of "race-mixing" has been a consistent theme for the group since the days of the White Citizens Councils. "God is the author of racism," said one story on the CCC's website in 2001. "God is the One who divided mankind into different types. ... Mixing the races is rebelliousness against God." After the NAACP declared its boycott of South Carolina in 1999 because the state continued to fly the Confederate battle flag over its Capitol dome, the CCC distributed a mock advertisement proclaiming, "South Carolina Now Has Whiter Beaches!" The Citizens Informer item urged whites to vacation in South Carolina and "enjoy a civil liberty that has been denied to them for many years at hotels, restaurants and beaches: the freedom to associate with just one's own people." Along with theological arguments, the Citizens Informer has published countless stories detailing "scientific" evidence for white people's inherent superiority.
According to the SPLC, the CCC calls LGBT Americans "perverted sodomites." The SPLC also notes that the membership rolls of the Council Of Conservative Citizens "overlap greatly" with those of the League Of The South, the racist group which recently distributed signs at an Alabama anti-gay marriage rally addressed by Roy Moore, whose return to the Alabama Supreme Court was bankrolled by the League's former president.

Tony Perkins and other hate group leaders regularly scream with outrage when the LGBT movement is compared to the black civil rights movement. Yet time after time after time after time we find that both movements share common enemies. The next time Perkins appears on cable news, we need to pressure every outlet to mention what HE has in common with confessed mass murderer Dylann Roof.

GOP House Majority Whip Confesses: I Spoke At Meeting Of White Supremacists

Via the Washington Post:
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House majority whip, acknowledged Monday that he spoke at a gathering hosted by white nationalist leaders while serving as a state representative in 2002, thrusting a racial controversy into House Republican ranks days before the party assumes control of both congressional chambers. The 48-year-old Scalise, who ascended to the House GOP’s third-ranking post earlier this year, confirmed that he once appeared at a convention of the European-American Unity and Rights Organization. That organization, founded by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, has been called a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. “Beyond hosting a website, whitecivilrights.com, and staging an occasional conference, EURO is a paper tiger, serving primarily as a vehicle to publicize Duke's writing and sell his books,” the SPLC writes on its Web site.
Scalise, it turns out, has a LOT in common with hate group leader and fellow Louisianan Tony Perkins, who also once keynoted the convention of a white supremacist group AND has financial ties to KKK leader David Duke. Scalise, NOT incidentally, was the lead author of Louisiana's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

Anonymous Seizes KKK's Twitter Account In Advance Of Ferguson Decision

Yesterday afternoon Anonymous seized the Ku Klux Klan's Twitter account after the hate group threatened to use "lethal force" during any protests over the coming decision on the indictment of the Missouri police officer that killed a young black man.
The Riverfront Times reported that the St. Louis, Missouri KKK group passed out pamphlets starting, "Attention: To the terrorists masquerading as "peaceful protesters"!" The announcement stated further, "We will use lethal force as provided under Missouri law to defend ourselves." KKK leader Frank Ancona went on MCNBC Wednesday to back up the threat and claim support from Ferguson locals; the head of Missouri's KKK told media that his organization's threats to protesters had boosted KKK recruitment. The Missouri group behind the threats -- Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan -- is listed as an active hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. On Friday Anonymous began doxing (publicly revealing identities and personal information) of KKK members in the Ferguson/St. Louis area.
Prior to the hacking, the KKK spent much of the weekend taunting Anonymous for not being able to hack them. Below is the doxing clip.

UPDATE: YouTube has pulled the clip.

White Supremacists Applaud Sixth Circuit For Using Their Anti-Gay Arguments

Back in March, I reported that the Traditional Youth Network, a white supremacist group, had filed an amicus brief with the Sixth Circuit Court in support of Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage. Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who is defending the ban, was put in the uncomfortable position of denouncing a brief in support of his case, saying that the group's message should be used "to line a birdcage." On Friday, Kyle Bristow, who filed the brief, applauded the Sixth Circuit's ruling, noting that Judge Jeffrey Sutton's ruling had used much of the same language as his brief.
Although the Left disparaged the Traditionalist Youth Network, LLC, for arguing for tradition and invoking the judicial philosophy of originalism, the Sixth Circuit invoked originalism—they called it “original meaning”—and stated rather overtly, “Tradition reinforces the point.” Judge Sutton also referred to “thousands of years of adherence to the traditional definition of marriage” in his written opinion, which echoes the sentiment espoused within our brief: “[T]he Western and American legal traditions have proscribed sodomy—much less same-sex marriage—for thousands and hundreds of years, respectively.” Not surprisingly, Judge Sutton mentioned the importance of tradition in the very first paragraph of his lengthy written opinion: “[M]arriage has long been a social institution defined by relationships between men and women. So long defined, the tradition is measured in millennia, not centuries or decades. So widely shared, the tradition until recently had been adopted by all governments and major religions of the world.” Also, our brief pointed out that sexual deviants with proclivities stranger than those even of homosexuals could demand the “right” to marry if the Court ruled that states cannot constitutionally regulate marriage, and the liberals mocked us for making the “slippery slope argument.” Well, Judge Sutton agrees with us, which is evinced by what he opined in his opinion: “If it is constitutionally irrational to stand by the man-woman definition of marriage, it must be constitutionally irrational to stand by the monogamous definition of marriage.” How do you liberals like them apples?
The Southern Poverty Law Center has long been tracking the group and has written about their Michigan brief.  (Tipped by JMG reader Jeremy)

MICHIGAN: White Supremacists File Brief In Support Of Same-Sex Marriage Ban

The white supremacist Traditionalist Youth Network has filed an amicus brief with the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in support of Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage. Which certainly won't hurt our cause.
"The totality of the history of the Western and American traditions demonstrates quite clearly that same-sex conduct can be penalized," wrote attorney Kyle Bristow, suggesting that legalized gay marriage would a "mockery" of historical customs and cultures. "If a state cannot be permitted to define marriage as simply as constituting one man and one woman, then our culture will be taken down a very slippery slope that will see pedophiles, polygamists, zoophiles, those in incestuous relationships, and every other sexual deviant with proclivities now known or to be invented to challenge laws that, likewise, prevent them from marrying whom—what—they wish."
Poor Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who is defending the ban, was put in the uncomfortable position of denouncing a brief in support of his case.
"There is no place in this discussion for derogatory language, and anything like it will be completely disregarded by the Department of Attorney General," Schuette said in a statement. "The Sixth Circuit should use this brief to line a birdcage, because that's all it's good for."
The Southern Poverty Law Center has long been tracking the group and has written about their Michigan brief.

White Supremacists To March In NYC

Gothamist reports on the organizer, some nutjob named Kyle Hunt.
Hunt acknowledges that it's hard to organize this kind of event on such a large scale—so the group has (seemingly informally) partnered up with another white supremacist group, Free America Rally (FAR), for the main NYC event. You have to email them (go ahead: info@freeamericarally.org) to get the full information about what they're planning, but based on their previous events, it'll likely take place outside the Plaza Hotel at 59th Street and 5th Avenue, and will involve a couple of sad looking men carrying a sign or two, glumly arguing over whether it's taking power away from white people to eat from a Halal cart.
There's a dress code.
If you are a man, put on a pair of light khakis and a nice dress shirt. It should almost look like you are a groomsman at a wedding. Or maybe like an avenging Aryan angel. Women, you know how to look great in white. You could also wear sunglasses. Ancient warriors knew that a mask covering the eyes offers protection, but also provides the wearer with extra confidence. Sunglasses can intimidate others who cannot see your eyes, while making you seem cool and collected.
And there's a video in which Hunt predicts that "thousands will participate in one way or another." My predicted turnout: Zero to five.

Reince Preibus: Despite Apology, MSNBC Remains On Probation With The GOP

Via Mediaite:
On Thursday, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus demanded that GOP politicians and committee staffers boycott MSNBC after the network sent out a tweet accusing the “rightwing” of being offended by a commercial featuring a biracial family. On Thursday night, Priebus joined Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity where he lauded MSNBC President Phil Griffin for quickly responding to the controversy. He warned, however, that the network was “on probation.” “In their professed world of tolerance, they’re sure hitting on all eight cylinders of intolerance,” Priebus said of MSNBC. He reveled that he called Griffin personally and left a message asking for an apology and asking for a corrective action.
The SPLC notes that for all his "raaaacist" screams, Preibus had no problem a few weeks ago when he appeared on the radio show of the KKK-affiliated Tony Perkins, who also once spoke before Louisiana's White Citizens Council, which opposes "race mixing" and calls black people "a retrograde species of humanity."

Tony Perkins: We Were Winners In 2013

"Dear Joe, With the end of the year right around the corner, FRC can look back and be proud of all we've accomplished in 2013. We took the Obama Administration on headfirst. We challenged its unconstitutional breaches into our lives. We fought back. And we are winning. The momentum is on our side and your support has never been more necessary. We will never back down in standing for advancing faith, freedom, and family. But the Obama Administration has unlimited resources and federal courts that are growing more supportive of its agenda with every passing day.

"We Need Your Help: Protect traditional family values. Fight for stronger religious liberty protections for those serving in the military. Force the Department of Justice to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act. Challenge the provisions of Obamacare that force Christians to violate their convictions and fund abortion. Joe, stand with FRC as we fight to uphold our values in the face of the Obama Administration and its relentless supporters." - KKK-affiliated hate group leader Tony Perkins, claiming to be a winner without actually having won a single battle in all of 2013.

Tony Perkins: Pray For Our Hate Group

"Dear Joe, Before you read another word, take a moment now to say a prayer for our nation and Family Research Council. Because of the radical, anti-Constitutional agenda of Barack Obama and the so-called Progressives, we are facing one of the greatest challenges in American history. Make no mistake about it, despite the debacle of ObamaCare, he will become more aggressive in his mission to strip you of your religious liberty and redefine the family. This past year President Obama has initiated several shocking efforts to strip Christian Americans of their First Amendment freedoms-especially religious freedom. He and his supporters believe that your faith should be legally confined within the walls of your church or the privacy of your home.

"In other words, there is no place in America for those who wish to live by and express their Christian faith in the workplace or in ANY 'public' space. Why? There can be no other allegiance to anything higher than the Federal Government. Those who disagree with the moral dictates of the government will be punished. So the president demands that same-sex 'marriage' be legalized, abortion on demand be funded by YOU, and that you and I support his redefinition of the family-or else face punishment." - KKK-affiliated hate group leader Tony Perkins, who closes with a promise to spend 2014 "compelling" the DOJ to enforce DOMA and fighting against the passage of ENDA.

Headline Of The Day

Media Matters notes that Louisiana's major newspapers have so far largely refused to report on hate group leader Tony Perkin's vile anti-gay history and his associations with white supremacist groups as he considers a run for the US House.
As he contemplates taking his extremist act to the halls of Congress, it appears that Perkins won't have to worry about Louisiana's top newspapers holding him accountable for his views. An Equality Matters analysis of five newspapers from the state reveals that most major papers have largely ignored his political ascendance, while others have whitewashed Perkins' extremism and hardly any have noted the FRC's hate group status or Perkins' record of inflammatory remarks. The five newspapers examined in Equality Matters' analysis have mentioned Perkins in a total of 29 articles in 2013. The Lafayette Daily Advertiser has not published a single article mentioning Perkins this year, while of the Alexandria Daily Town Talk's six articles featuring Perkins, all but one concerned his role as a trustee of Louisiana College. Of all the articles mentioning Perkins, a mere 10, or 34 percent, examined his political rise in the state. Articles in the New Orleans Times-Picayune and Baton Rouge Advocate have reported on Perkins' recent law enforcement commission appointment, his potential congressional run, and speculation earlier this year that he might challenge Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) in 2014. The Shreveport Times, Alexandria Daily Town Talk, and Lafayette Daily Advertiser completely ignored Perkins' appointment and political ambitions. Coverage of Perkins all too often ignores his and the FRC's rabid anti-LGBT views.
Hit the link and read about more about Perkins' repulsive track record. Most of what's there should be well familiar to longtime JMG readers.

White Supremacist Told After DNA Test: "Hey, Bro! You Have A Little Black In You"

Via Raw Story:
A white supremacist who’s trying to set up a racist enclave in North Dakota received a shock during the taping of an upcoming daytime talk show. Craig Cobb submitted to a DNA test as part of an ongoing Race In America series on the syndicated “Trisha Show,” and host Trisha Goddard delivered some surprising test results to the 62-year-old hate crimes fugitive from Canada in an episode that will air Nov. 18. As her studio audience laughed with delight, Goddard, who is black, told Cobb that test results revealed his genetic ancestry was 86 European and 14 percent sub-Saharan African.
Cobb is claiming that the show's producers fixed the result.

The National Cathedral Is Promoting Evil

Tony Perkins says that if you condemn homophobia, as the dean of DC's National Cathedral recently did, you are promoting evil. So says the man with financial ties to the Ku Klux Klan and who keynoted the meeting of a white supremacist group.

Quote Of The Day - Tony Perkins

"I know a lot about the Southern Poverty Law Center, and I’m sure it’s not comforting for them to know that I can share that information with the law enforcement community. This is a very dangerous group. We are not advocating that homosexuality be illegal. What we have advocated is that marriage should be preserved in our laws as the union between man and woman, the same as the voters have in Louisiana. Is that vicious? I don’t think so. Is there anything wrong with helping the governor? Is there something wrong with the governor helping me? Bobby has been my friend since I was in the legislature." - Hate group leader Tony Perkins, speaking to the Baton Rouge Advocate about his appointment to the Louisiana Law Enforcement Commission.

FACT CHECK: Perkins is lying (SHOCKER) when he claims that the FRC doesn't "advocate that homosexuality be illegal." In fact, FRC vice president Peter Sprigg appeared on national television to declare that Lawrence V Texas had been "wrongly decided" and therefore homosexuality should have remained illegal.

Wingnut Backscratching In Louisiana

Earlier this week I reported that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had appointed hate group leader Tony Perkins to the state Law Enforcement Commission. The SPLC has more on the Perkins-Jindal relationship.
Jindal named Perkins to the Louisiana Commission on Marriage and Family in 2008, supposedly on the basis of “expertise in community programs and assistance.” The Commission on Marriage and Family website provides meeting minutes for the past three years. Perkins is listed as absent for seven out of seven meetings. Since Perkins has a day job in Washington, D.C., and is apparently unable to attend those meetings, it’s hard to imagine he’ll be any better about attending the Commission on Law Enforcement meetings. But Jindal appointed him, and Perkins accepted, because they both have something to gain. Jindal dreams of running for national office, and he wants support from and access to religious-right primary voters. That’s why he’s scheduled to speak, as he’s done in the past, at the FRC-sponsored Values Voter Summit in D.C. next month. Perkins, on the other hand, dreams of running for office again in Louisiana, and he’s been floated recently as a possible challenger to Sen. Mary Landrieu. He maintains residency in Baton Rouge despite apparently spending most of his time in D.C. The commission seats give him an opportunity to pad his resume and keep his name in circulation back home.
The above-linked article goes on to describe Perkins' history with the Ku Klux Klan and a Louisiana white supremacists group, which I've mentioned here many times. Read it again anyway.

FRC Cheers Voting Rights Act Ruling

"There will no longer be a special category for these 15 states -- many of which are now at the forefront of elected minorities! From now on, these regions will have the same equal opportunity to define their voting laws as anyone else. For too long, states like Alabama, which brought the lawsuit, have been prisoners of history. Instead of punishing them for past mistakes, this ruling finally takes states out from under Washington's thumb and gives them a fresh start. In recent days, the Voting Rights Act has been a tool for a liberal and politically-motivated DOJ to shape laws to its advantage. And in an administration as corrupt as President Obama's is proving to be, the less power it has over the states, the better!" - Hate group leader Tony Perkins, who has ties to the KKK and who keynoted a convention of white supremacists, via email.

White Supremacist On Gay Marriage

Gay marriage is bad because it means fewer white babies will be born. "I will not give in to your homofascism! You'll have to kill me first!" (This guy is probably BFFs with Tony Perkins.) The crazy really gets uncorked in the last three minutes. Here's his website and here's his Facebook page.

White Supremacist Rocks CPAC

A CPAC panel on GOP outreach to minorities was upended yesterday by a white supremacist who defended slavery and claimed that white people are being "disenfranchised" by the federal government. The man's comments, which were caught on video, has caused an uproar on right-wing blogs where commenters are predictably claiming that the man was planted by liberals in order to embarrass CPAC.  Think Progress reports:
The exchange occurred after an audience member from North Carolina, 30-year-old Scott Terry, asked whether Republicans could endorse races remaining separate but equal. After the presenter, K. Carl Smith of Frederick Douglass Republicans, answered by referencing a letter by Frederick Douglass forgiving his former master, the audience member said “For what? For feeding him and housing him?” Several people in the audience cheered and applauded Terry’s outburst. After the exchange, Terry muttered under his breath, “why can’t we just have segregation?” noting the Constitution’s protections for freedom of association.
Think Progress notes that the man, who was wearing a Rick Santorum sticker, claims to be a "direct descendant" of Jefferson Davis. They caught up with him after the panel, which was ironically titled "Trumping The Race Card."
When asked by ThinkProgress if he’d accept a society where African-Americans were permanently subservient to whites, he said “I’d be fine with that.” He also claimed that African-Americans “should be allowed to vote in Africa,” and that “all the Tea Parties” were concerned with the same racial problems that he was. At one point, a woman challenged him on the Republican Party’s roots, to which Terry responded, “I didn’t know the legacy of the Republican Party included women correcting men in public.”
Here's the clip.

UPDATE: Terry is defending himself on his blog, Shotgun Barrel Straight.
