NOM Slams Times On Musgrave

"Congresswoman Musgrave is a hero for marriage and was the lead sponsor of the original Federal Marriage Amendment in 2003. The fact that the New York Times would falsely claim above-the-fold that she now supports repealing a law to protect marriage without even checking with her shows the desperation of some in the media to push this absurd notion that Republicans support the repeal of laws passed by Americans to protect marriage." -Hate group leader and Vatican stooge Brian Brown.

RELATED: The Times reporter in question has explained her mistake, which was not, as Brown claims, part of a vast anti-Jesus conspiracy.
"Here's what happened," she e-mails. "A former district director for Marilyn Musgrave signed the brief, but her title was so long that it actually took up two lines, pushing the congresswoman's name onto a line all by itself. So when you read down the list, it looked like Ms. Musgrave had signed — when in fact she had not." Stolberg says she was "horrified" when she realized her mistake. "I corrected it immediately, called Ms. Musgrave and apologized, and she accepted. A good lesson in journalism: Check everything twice, and we are only human."

Marilyn Musgrave [UPDATED]

In 2003 as a Colorado legislator, state Rep. Marilyn Musgrave wrote and sponsored the bill that successfully banned same-sex marriage. In 2004 then-US Rep. Marilyn Musgrave sponsored and voted for a federal constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. In 2006 then-Rep. Marilyn Musgrave was given a 0% rating by the Human Rights Campaign. In 2006 then-Rep. Marilyn Musgrave appeared at the Family Research Council's Values Voters Summit to declare that same-sex marriage was the single issue that most-imperiled the survival of the United States. In 2006 then-Rep. Marilyn Musgrave again sponsored and again voted for a federal constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. In 2007 then-Rep. Marilyn Musgrave voted against ENDA. In 2008 the American Conservative Union honored then-Rep. Marilyn Musgrave as the "most conservative" member of Congress.   And on February 26th, 2013 former Rep. Marilyn Musgrave signed onto a GOP Supreme Court brief that endorses the full marriage equality of gay Americans.

We have truly won. It won't happen right away. But it's inevitable.

UPDATE: STOP the celebration, everybody. Musgrave is DENYING the above-linked New York Times story.
“I’m very befuddled by this story,” Musgrave told FOX31 Denver. “There’s absolutely no truth to that. I’m reading it thinking, ‘what in the world?’ “I wasn’t even aware of it. I have not changed my position. I’m trying to imagine where anyone would get that information and I can’t figure it out.” The brief, organized by former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, who is openly gay, urges the Supreme Court to declare that gay and lesbian couples have a Constitutional right to marry. Musgrave is cited in the lede paragraph of a story by the New York Times’ Sheryl Gay Stolberg as part of a growing group of conservative Republicans supporting Mehlman’s brief. Musgrave’s former district director, former state Rep. B.J. Nikkel, has signed the brief.
Damn, damn, damn. Too good to be true, indeed. In his post on the Times story, Jeremy Hooper even said, "If you had asked me yesterday morning to name an American likely to come out for marriage equality, Ms. Musgrave would've ranked somewhere below a cryogenically frozen version of Ronald Reagan." Somebody at the Times has some explaining to do.

UPDATE II: The New York Times has issued a retraction: "An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that former Representative Marilyn Musgrave, Republican of Colorado, had signed on to the brief. The brief was signed by her former district director, for himself."

Anti-Gay Musgrave Lost by 12 Points, Still Won't Concede Defeat

Batshit crazy homophobe Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (the architect of the Federal Marriage Amendment) still won't concede that she lost the election.
Bitterness generated by the bruising battle between Betsy Markey and Marilyn Musgrave apparently lingers days after voters decided the winner of the 4th Congressional District. Incumbent Republican Musgrave, who lost to Democrat Markey by a 56 to 44 percent margin Tuesday, has yet to call and congratulate Markey on her win. Musgrave also hasn't conceded the race, said Markey spokesman Ben Marter. "She has yet to admit defeat," he said. "It's a little bizarre." Calls to Musgrave's campaign and congressional office went unanswered Friday.

Musgrave has held the 4th District seat since 2002, at one point drawing fire from national gay-rights and liberal groups for her support of an amendment banning gay marriage. Markey, a Fort Collins businesswoman and former aide to U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, tried to portray Musgrave as a strident conservative out of touch with constituents. The two sharply attacked each other in three campaign debates and in television ads. In one Musgrave ad, Markey was portrayed by a blond actress strapped to a lie detector. Musgrave attempted to show that Markey was being backed by fringe left-wing groups and alleged she enriched her family business while working for Salazar. In all, the Musgrave-Markey matchup attracted more than $3 million from special-interest groups.

Marilyn Muskrat Back To Hating

Homegirl of the KKK, Colorado Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Duh), is making her third run at instituting a federal constitutional amendment banning marriage equality and has signed on as co-sponsor of the latest attempt.
After more than a year of silence on amending the Constitution, and now facing a tough battle for re-election to a third term, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colo.) has signed on as a co-sponsor of the latest attempt to gain Congressional approval.

"The sponsors of the amendments asked her to be a co-sponsor. The congresswoman supports traditional marriage so she agreed," Musgrave Chief of Staff Guy Short told the The Coloradoan newspaper. In 2006 Musgrave narrowly won re-election and has said little about marriage ever since. Last year the congresswoman said she would not reintroduce the legislation because it would have little chance of acceptance in the Democratically-controlled Congress.

But three other Republicans did introduce separate versions of the amendment. Musgrave is cosponsoring two of the versions. One was introduced by Rep. Daniel Lungren (R-Calif.); the other by Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.).
It was Musgrave who introduced the anti-gay amendment in 2003 and in 2006 - back when Republicans ruled Congress.
