NOM Endorsee Erick Salgado FLOPS In NYC's Democratic Mayoral Primary

In a transparent bit of payback back in June, NOM endorsed the New York City mayoral candidacy of crackpot Rev. Erick Salgado, who helped organize NOM's anti-gay marriage hate march in the Bronx two years ago. From Brian Brown's press release that day: "There are millions of people in New York City who support traditional marriage and deserve to have their voices heard. Rev. Erick Salgado is not only that voice, but is a true leader who has a vision for New York that is based on conservative values. Erick Salgado is the candidate who will work to restore marriage in New York." Take a look at the results above and see the value of a NOM endorsement in New York City.

Quote Of The Day - Ruben Diaz

"You should know that Erick Salgado is the President of the Council of Youth Christian Churches. Not satisfied with the moral, civic, cultural and political status of New York City according to Mr. Salgado, “after careful consultation with his family, with Mr. Gregory Davidzon and others”, Erick Salgado decided to become a candidate in the Democratic Primary for the Office of Mayor that will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.

"Salgado’s problem, now, is how to raise millions of dollars to allow him to pay for radio, tv and newspaper advertising in order to compete with the other candidates’ millions – and to let New York City voters learn more about his platform and agenda for the city. Salgado could declare that he is a homosexual, go to the City Hall Clerk, get a license, marry another man in a public garden, and become the very first male New York City mayoral candidate who is officially married to a man. If he does this, I am absolutely certain that he will get millions and millions of dollars in free publicity.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the problem with Erick Salgado is that he is an Evangelical Minister, a teacher and a preacher of the Gospel of Christ and a believer." - New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, on the mayoral candidacy of NOM-endorsed Erick Salgado, who helped Diaz and NOM organize their anti-gay hate rally in the Bronx in 2011.  (Tipped by JMG reader Colin)

NOM Endorses Crackpot Pastor Erick Salgado For New York City Mayor

In a transparent bit of payback, NOM has endorsed the New York City mayoral candidacy of Rev. Erick Salgado, who helped organize NOM's anti-gay marriage hate march in the Bronx two years ago.
NOM is proud to endorse a candidate who has the courage to stand up for conservative principles and join us in our support of traditional marriage," NOM President Brian Brown said. "There are millions of people in New York City who support traditional marriage and deserve to have their voices heard. Rev. Erick Salgado is not only that voice, but is a true leader who has a vision for New York that is based on conservative values," Brown continued.

Brown also questioned the Conservative Party's endorsement of candidate Joe Lhota, pointing out that Lhota has not only expressed his support of gay marriage, but stated during a January 17, 2013 interview on NY1's "Road to City Hall" that he "looked forward" to performing gay marriages as mayor.

"Joe Lhota's view on gay marriage is extreme and not in step with conservatism," Brown said. "While I have great personal respect for the leadership of the Conservative Party, we reject the endorsement of Joe Lhota. Erick Salgado is the candidate who will work to restore marriage in New York, and we are proud to support him."
Salgado has a campaign website but the most recent poll shows him at <1%. Salgado is the president of the local Spanish-language Christian radio network Cantico Nuevo, which bussed in thousands of Dominican anti-gay protesters from outside the city in order to inflate NOM's rally numbers in the Bronx. I suspect he also provided similar help for NOM's pitiful hate rally in DC this spring. Unshockingly, Salgado has also been endorsed by New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz.

Anti-Gay Pastor And NOM Supporter Erick Salgado May Run For NYC Mayor

Capital New York reports that anti-gay pastor and NOM supporter Erick Salgado may challenge openly lesbian City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the presumptive Democratic favorite for NYC mayor next year. As you'd expect, Sen. Ruben Diaz is backing him.
State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., an evangelical Christian and leader of the New York Hispanic Clergy, is encouraging a member of the organization, Rev. Erick Salgado, to enter the race for mayor as a conservative Democrat, the senator confirmed. Salgado is also in talks with operatives in Brooklyn's Russian-Jewish community and has met several times with Democratic operatives there, according to two sources.

Diaz, who opposes same-sex marriage, abortion and supports prayer in public schools, said religious and Hispanic voters do not see a valid option among the current crop of mayoral candidates from either party. Diaz, who defined conservative Democrats based on their stance on "gay marriage, abortion, prayer in schools, charter schools, and religious schools," told me "sooner or later, we have to get to a point where people have to start noticing us."
Salgado is the president of the local Spanish-language radio station, Cantico Nuevo, which was one of the media co-sponsors of NOM's infamous anti-gay hate rally last year in the Bronx.  Cantico Nuevo and another Spanish-language radio station bussed in anti-gay protesters from outside the city in order to inflate NOM's rally numbers in the Bronx.
