Gabbana: We're Like Charlie Hebdo

They may be trying to walk back their anti-LGBT comments in the press, but yesterday Stefano Gabbana took to Instagram to compare their situation to Charlie Hebdo. Not incidentally, the #BoycottDolceGabbana hashtag is trending at  #1 in the United States at this writing. (Tipped by JMG reader John)

Surfin' Schock

Back in January, Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) made his Instagram account private, but his followers continue to share the posts. Yesterday Americablog posted a roundup of recent photos posted by Schock, including the above image which carries this message: "Waikiki Beach - Enjoying the Aloha spirit thanks to @tulsigabbard hospitality and Surfing Coach Nish for getting me up. Shout out to @oahusurfshots for the pics. #icouldlivehere" (Via Towleroad)

Schock Makes Instagram Account Private

A few days ago John Aravosis posted an AmericaBlog column titled The 7 Gayest Aaron Schock Instagram Posts Of 2013 in which he needled Schock's famous sense of fashion and devotion to bodybuilding. That AmericaBlog post was referenced in yesterday's Facebook piece on Schock by CBS reporter Itay Hod. And JMG reader Michael reports that Schock today made his Instagram account private. Previously the account was open to all, including non-members. Read into this as you will.

Facebook Copies Vine

Facebook-owned Instagram will now support very short video clips just like the Twitter-owned Vine.
Instagram’s Kevin Systrom said video clips on Instagram will be 3 to 15 seconds long and include new shaky hand video stabilization technology called Cinema. Instagram now has 130 million users. Systrom: "The frame shown to people is typically the first frame. We think that’s silly. It should be the frame you want to show your friends. You can now choose which frame you want to show up on the Instagram feed. “It’s the same Instagram we know and love. But it moves.”
Instagram clips will not loop endlessly like Vine clips do to the annoyance of many.

Facebook Vs Twitter

Over the weekend Facebook-owned Instragram pulled the photos that its users had posted to Twitter.
In a company blog post, Twitter said that Instagram has “disabled photo integration with Twitter,” though tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible. Photos from Instagram no longer appear in Twitter user photo galleries. In an interview at a Paris tech show last week, Instagram founder Kevin Systrom said that Instagram would eventually take all photo previews out of Twitter, saying that the snapshot company was undergoing an “evolution” in how it shares its content. “We will always be integrated with Twitter in a way that you can tweet out a photo from Instagram to Twitter,” Systrom told the conference attendees, but he said that Instagram wants to drive traffic back to its own site.
You must now click twice to see an Instagram photo. Nightmare.
