NORTH KOREA: Kim Jong Il Dead At 69
The world's worst (arguably) living dictator has died at the age of 69.Kim, 69, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, state media reported. A broadcaster reported that Kim died due to "overwork" after "dedicating his life to the people." Kim died of "great mental and physical strain" while in a train during a "field guidance tour," North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency reported.More specifically, the agency reported that Kim suffered a heart attack and couldn't be saved despite the use of "every possible first-aid measure." He had been treated for "cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases for a long period," KCNA noted. His funeral will be held December 28 and the national mourning period extends until December 29, said the news agency. All South Korean military units have been placed on "emergency alert" following Kim's death, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. South Korean officials have not noticed any unusual activity from North Korea, the agency reported early Monday afternoon.VIDEO: A sobbing reporter delivers the news.

Obama: U.S. Ready For North Korea
As North Korea readies for a long-range missile test, President Obama says that we are ready for any potential threat. The U.S. Department of Defense has ordered "additional protections" for Hawaii in case the missile is launched over the Pacific."This administration — and our military is fully prepared for any contingencies," Obama said during an interview with CBS News' Harry Smith. The interview was taped Friday for broadcast Monday on "The Early Show." "I don't want to speculate on hypotheticals," Obama said. "But I want ... to give assurances to the American people that the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted in terms of what might happen."A U.S. Navy destroyer is currently tailing a North Korean ship suspected of carrying UN-banned illegal weapons. Sen. John McCain says we would be within our rights to board and inspect the ship.
Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy was en route to Beijing to meet with Chinese officials about the ongoing tensions in the region over North Korea's missile and nuclear weapons programs. North Korea's main newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said Monday it was "nonsense" to say the country was threatening the United States. The paper warned that Pyongyang was prepared to strike back if attacked. "As long as our country has become a proud nuclear power, the U.S. should take a correct look at whom it is dealing with," the paper said. "It would be a grave mistake for the U.S. to think it can remain unhurt if it ignites the fuse of war on the Korean peninsula."

Too Girly To Be A Dictator
North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il has decided that his sissified son Kim Jong-chul is too effeminate to succeed him.
North Korea's "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il named his third son his successor -- at the expense of an older son whom he considered "too effeminate," according to the dictator's longtime sushi chef. Kim Jong-chul, the 27-year-old middle son, was apparently deemed too girlish to rule the communist nation.RELATED: If you follow the North Korean government on Twitter, they'll follow you right back. Their tweets are often unintentionally amusing.
UPDATE: Readers have pointed out that the photo I received with the above story does not appear to be the son in question, so I have removed it until I find something better than the mugshot-like pic that can be found in Google Images.
