Viral Video Of The Day

Clip recap:
While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see—whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. This may be a significant reason many people in the U.S. report they feel discriminated against. Subconscious prejudice—called “implicit bias”—has profound implications for how we view and interact with others who are different from us. It can hinder a person’s ability to find a job, secure a loan, rent an apartment, or get a fair trial, perpetuating disparities in American society. The Love Has No Labels campaign challenges us to open our eyes to our bias and prejudice and work to stop it in ourselves, our friends, our families, and our colleagues. Rethink your bias at lovehasnolabels.com.
The clip is by the Ad Council, which produces PSAs for the federal government, non-profits, and NGOs. 1.6M views in one day. Music by openly lesbian pop star Mary Lambert.

Mary Lambert - Secrets

A couple of weeks ago I posted the lyric video to this track and today we get the production clip. I've already added this to my best-of-2014 playlist. The Brunhilde interlude is adorable and an extra point for the literal coming out of the closet.

From the coming album Heart On My Sleeve, due in October. I met Mary at a recent event and she could not have been any sweeter. This is a great track.

Mary Lambert - Auld Lang Syne

Openly gay singer Mary Lambert, who guested on Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis' monster hit Same Love, is back with a truly lovely live take on the classic. I met Lambert at a GLAAD event a few months ago and she could not have been more charming.

At Last Night's GLAAD Event

Google has either done away with embeddable Picasa slideshows or hidden the function well enough that I can no longer find it, so click over here for tons of photos of the bold face (mostly) gay-gay-gay names that crowded the red carpet at last night's GLAAD event in Manhattan. Within you'll find Orange Is The New Black cast member Laverne Cox, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts and his husband, a very slim Perez Hilton, 2012 GOP presidential candidate Fred Karger, Carson Kressley,  nightlife queen Susanne Bartsch and gym mogul hubby David Barton, rapper Big Dipper, rapper Cazwell, Broadway hottie Nick Adams, Carmen Carrrera, model Isis King, Christian Siriano, and Mary Lambert, who performed her new hit, She Keeps Me Warm, to huge applause. Plus you find more and better photos of those West Point cadets. [Photo credits: Dr. Jeff Smith]

Mary Lambert - She Keeps Me Warm

JMG reader AC sends along this quote from Mary Lambert, who also sang on Mackelmore's Same Love, which used the chorus from this song.
"Two years ago, I [searched] YouTube for a main-stream music video that depicted a lesbian relationship. I was disappointed, shocked and a little hurt that I couldn't find a single one. Sure, there were hot girls rolling around in lingerie, girls briefly holding hands, or something involving a man. Lesbians used as shock value. This video came to fruition with an all queer, female crew, who shared my vision. It was an incredible experience. Everyone has had the butterflies of love: the giddiness, the quick heartbeats, the sweaty palms. It's important to remember that love is universal... no matter what gender you're attracted to. Additionally, it's important to acknowledge the fact that I, a plus-size femme, co-starred in the video. So often curvy women's bodies are a novelty. They provide a comical relief to a romantic scene. Our bodies are not allowed to be sexy in media, and it's part of the reason there's an epidemic of poor body image in our society. I don't think that's okay. I think that's screwed up. I'm sexy and romantic, and I deserve to feel that way. Every woman does."
It's a lovely song and video.
