One thousand musicians banded together in Italy to perform the Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” all at once in an attempt to woo the band to come play a show for them. Let’s repeat that — 1,000 musicians. A thousand. “The Foo Fighters are not in Romagna since 1997, it’s time to get them back, but we need a crazy idea,” the description on Rockin’ 1000’s website explains. “We have to organize something that kicks ass worldwide and can be seen by Dave Grohl: We will ask one thousand rockers to play one of their songs, all together and at the same time.”
Atlanta Church: Don't Mistake Our Pastor's Viral Rant As Supportive Of LGBT Rights
Last week JMG was the first to post a fiery sermon from an evangelical pastor that has since gone wildly viral. While many sites have interpreted the pastor's message as supportive of the LGBT community, the House Of Hope Atlanta would like you to know that is definitely not the case. From their statement published by the Christian Post:
That clip was posted without our knowledge by someone who was in attendance and gives absolutely no context concerning the overall message. Since that time enumerable media outlets have posted the clip with captions best suited for their journalistic and editorial priorities. It's important to know that the descriptions of the posted sermon clip are not the opinions of E. Dewey Smith Jr. By no means is Smith now, nor has he ever been a proponent of same-sex marriage. Smith has always believed and taught that marriage is only designed for a man and a woman. This reality was clearly stated during the sermon but not included for some reason by the person who posted the clip. Smith believes that same-sex marriage isn't the Will of God. Many publications have tried to present the message as affirmation of equal rights for the LGBT community. Regardless of how the clip is 'bent' that was not the content nor intent of the message.
It is the deepest show of respect. A large group of school children in New Zealand have honoured their beloved teacher by performing the traditional dance, the haka, as his hearse rolled into the school for the funeral. At least 1,700 boys at Palmerston North Boys' High School on New Zealand's North Island participated in the epic performance for their physical education and maths teacher, Dawson Tamatea. Tamatea, 55, died in his sleep on July 20, according to TVNZ. He had been a teacher at the school for almost 30 years. "This was a very emotional and powerful performance," the school wrote on its YouTube channel. "We are extremely proud of our boys' performance and we know that Mr Tamatea would be too."
At the KKK rally in South Carolina on Saturday, one counter-protester thoughtfully provided musical accompaniment. The clip below has since racked up nearly 800K views.
AdWeek Slams Catholic Vote Clip: Galling And Meant To Marginalize LGBT People
In the comments of the post below this one, JMG reader Sam points us to this takedown of Catholic Vote by AdWeek:
About halfway through this two-and-a-half-minute film from conservative nonprofit the Catholic Vote, its treacly, overlystylized message becomes clear. These Catholics are nervous about revealing their stance on same-sex marriage because they're (spoiler alert!) against it. That stance is nothing new. And everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as it doesn't lead to legislation that discriminates. No, what's galling about the ad is its appropriation of LGBTQ themes to marginalize LGBTQ people. The ad, with a straight face, position Catholics as a persecuted group for not having their message of intolerance (here blatantly recast as its opposite) widely accepted these days. It even plays like a coming-out video for Catholics who are afraid to take the "brave" step of voicing their objection to equality. That's a pretty audacious tactic—disingenuous and disrespectful, to say the least.
A YouTube video shared after Sunday's parade shows a parade marcher getting his groove on with what appears to be a member of the New York Police Department. We've reached out to the NYPD for comment but haven't heard back yet. The 12-second clip stars the unlikely duo dancing to along to Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." The cop's dance partner was a man named Aaron, who was marching with the Big Apple Softball League during the parade, explains the user who posted the video, Paige Ponzeka. The moment doesn't last long before Aaron has to hurry back to the parade. Before he goes, Aaron affixes one of the league's "I'd Hit That" stickers to the officer's uniform and gives him a quick kiss on the cheek.
A cat has escaped with at least one of its nine lives after stowing away on an ultra-light aircraft flight. A video has been posted on YouTube of the cat digging its claws into the aircraft’s wing as its pilot and passenger fly hundreds of feet above the ground at first apparently unaware of its presence. Romain Jantot, understood to be the pilot in the clip, cites a flying club in Kourou, French Guiana, in the film’s description. “A standard flight until … I still don’t know if it got in after the pre-flight check or if I missed it,” he says. “The cat is doing well, she is still our mascot.” All appears well and cat-free as the aircraft accelerates on the runway and begins its takeoff. But about 38 seconds into the clip, the cat slowly creeps into view under the plane’s left wing, making its way towards the pilot and passenger with a sinister slow crawl. Just after a minute has passed, the pilot’s shock is clear as he notices the windswept stowaway. Never before has a man’s face said “there’s a cat on the wing of my plane” with such unequivocal clarity.
Over 7M views already. The pilot's double-take is great.
"This is something that is a part of me and has always been a part of me" YouTube beauty expert Ingrid Nilsen had an important message for her 3.3 million followers this morning, announcing in an emotional 20-minute video that she is gay. The video, which garnered more than 900,000 hits in just eight hours, featured an alternately tearful and pensive Nilsen explaining how she decided to come clean about something very personal. “I have had this wall up for so much of my life, but it wasn’t like this brick or stone wall,” she said. “I’ve described it to my friends as this glass wall, where you could see me but you were never getting all of me, because there was always that barrier there.”
Clip recap: "This Marble Run 'Marble Tsunami' has 4 tipping containers holding totally more than 11 000 marbles. In this video you'll see the 10 000 marbles AND the 1000 marbles container will tipping together causing more than 11 000 marbles rolling down the giant tracks."
Dan Savage makes the ten year best-of clip: "From the silly to the profound, from the personal to the political, we’re celebrating a decade of your creativity and self-expression. And, we’re doing it from A to Z. With over 75 references and 18 filmmaking styles, we've tried to capture some of the richness and variety of YouTube from the last decade."
This gave an Australian morning show a case of the giggles, especially since the player on the left's name is Willie. The female anchor exclaimed, "No reaction at all! Was that some sort of secret handshake? At least buy him dinner first." The two players are former teammates, by the way.
Featuring cameos by RuPaul, Glozell, Lance Bass, Ross Mathews, Dan Franzese, and Frankie Grande. Plus a lot of beefcake. This is the sequel to the wildly popular 2013 Disney parody.
The good news for one city councilman in Georgetown, Texas: Few people were in attendance at a meeting last week when he excused himself to go to the bathroom and left his microphone on, broadcasting his experience to the council chamber. The bad news: Hundreds of thousands of people have seen and heard what he did, thanks to a video of the council meeting. Even worse news: Based on the time between him flushing the toilet and how he returned only seconds later, it appears he didn’t wash his hands. The whole thing went down while Mayor Pro Tem Rachael Jonrowe was speaking about infectious diseases — and we all know how important basic hand washing is in preventing the spread of germs in general. Apparently this councilman missed the memo.
