The First Oops Of CPAC 2015

Carson and Scott are the only African-Americans listed as featured speakers.

UPDATE: CPAC is claiming that the Washington Post photoshopped the image.
Ross Hemminger, a spokesman for CPAC, told The Hill that the photo is “not a real thing” and that it is a “Photoshopped” image. He forwarded technical emails that claim that there’s distortion around the sides of the Scott picture that stems from the alteration, but did not specifically blame Terris. Terris pushed back on the assertion in an email to The Hill. "This morning I wanted to see what time Dr. Carson was speaking so I went to the CPAC site on my phone. I saw that his bio was accompanied by a photo of Tim Scott. So I took a screen shot of it and tweeted it out," he said. "I can't claim to have any idea how or why his photo was there, but I can tell you I have literally no idea how I would even go about photoshopping that."

Headlines Of The Day

Every site in Teabagistan has spent the last 24 hours denouncing the MLK celebration because "the only sitting black US Senator," who happens to be a far-right conservative, wasn't invited to speak. As it turns out, Scott had already told organizers that he would be out of town yesterday. That doesn't necessarily mean he would have been on the list of speakers, but it certainly undercuts the claims that yesterday was just another "Democratic dog-and-pony show of race hustlers," as Breitbart and others in the right wing-o-sphere have characterized it.
“Thank you for extending to Senator Tim Scott the invitation to the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington on August 28th. Unfortunately, the Senator will be in South Carolina during this time, so he will be unable to attend the event. Please do, however, keep him in mind for future events you may be hosting.”

SOUTH CAROLINA: Rep. Tim Scott To Replace GOP Senator Jim DeMint

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will tap freshman Tea Party Rep. Tim Scott to replace the retiring Sen. Jim DeMint.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, three Republican officials familiar with the process confirmed to The New York Times the decision to select Mr. Scott. Aides to the governor declined to comment before the noon announcement. Ms. Haley seriously considered a number of potential contenders, particularly Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former Gov. Mark Sanford, who supported Ms. Haley in her race two years ago. But in choosing Mr. Scott, she selected a lawmaker with a strong conservative voting record during his two years in Congress. Additionally, Mr. Scott, 47, offers a unique story and background, one that is in scant supply in the Republican Party right now. Raised by a single mother, he was, by his account, a lost child who struggled with school and with life until a Chick-fil-A franchise owner took him on as a protégé and schooled him in conservative principles.
Bolding is mine. Scott will become the first black Senator from the South in over a century.
