"Ruinous Scandal" Rumored About To Explode For NY Gov. David Paterson
Reliable political reporter Elizabeth Benjamin reports at the NY Daily News that a potentially career-ending personal scandal will shortly be divulged about NY Gov. David Paterson. Recent claims have been made that state troopers walked in on Paterson and an unidentified woman in a utility closet at the executive mansion. According to Gothamist, the big story (which may or may not be related to the trooper story) is to come from the New York Times. The rumor mill is churning right now about a "big, damaging" New York Times "bombshell" story that supposedly features some ruinous dirt about the personal life of Governor David Paterson. Elizabeth Benjamin at the Daily News hears it "will be far worse than his acknowledged extramarital affair with a former state employee." Remember when you first heard about Eliot Spitzer's involvement with prostitutes, and everyone was like, "Okay, so who the hell is David Paterson?" Well, let's get to know current Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch! As mentioned above, Paterson has freely admitted that he and his wife have been non-monogamous in the past, a revelation that most of New York met with a shrug. As documented here on this blog many times, Gov. Paterson has been an actual fierce advocate for gay New Yorkers since taking over for the disgraced Eliot Spitzer. This doesn't look good.

Rumor Mill: Hillary Mulling Resignation
Wingnut pubs like Weekly Standard and the New York Post are citing "insiders" who claim that Hillary Clinton is considering resigning as Secretary as State to run either for New York governor or against NY Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. From the Post: Hillary Clinton is said to be frustrated with her lack of authority as secretary of state and resentful of the glacial pace of the White House vetting process. "President Obama's picks fly in even if they didn't pay their taxes. But her picks take forever," noted one Democrat. "Plus, she has no real clout over Holbrooke or Mitchell." Richard Holbrooke is Obama's "special representative" for Afghanistan and Pakistan. George Mitchell is "special envoy" to the Middle East. Clinton is said to be considering quitting to retake her old US Senate seat now held by Kristin Gillibrand -- or running for governor, as one rumor has it. "Her argument will be that Gillibrand is in danger of losing the seat to the Republicans," said a source. But Gillibrand won't voluntarily step aside, unlike Rep. Nita Lowey, whom Clinton nudged out of the race in 2000. "You couldn't blow Gillibrand out of that seat with dynamite," said our source. Clinton's rep did not get back to us by deadline.Take that with a planet-sized grain of salt, coming from the Post. Gawker blames the rumor on the Weekly Standard's conservative blowhard editor/TV commentator Bill Kristol.

Hung GWM Senator For Same. Or Not.
Rumors are flying around the intraweb that prospective Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson may about to be outed. Or not.Andrew Sullivan sez: "Outside the extremist, activist base, regular GOP voters turn out to be relatively tolerant when it comes to sexual minorities and private sex lives. They’re not well represented by their party leaders, as far as policy is concerned. This is good news for Fred Thompson. The man has had a colorful and wide-ranging sex life, as I’m sure we will soon find out."
But Wonkette says: "Sullivan is not even close to the first person we’ve heard float this particular rumor, not that that says anything as to its truth. Because we’ve also heard, from someone who insists that he heard it from people in a good position to know such things, that Fred Thompson has an enormous dick, which is how he manages to get all of the hundreds upon hundreds of hot ladies he sleeps with."
This will be interesting.
