TRAILER: Attack On Titan

Screen Rants recaps:
Attack on Titan features an all-Japanese cast and will only receive a limited theatrical release in North America, courtesy of FUNimation Entertainment, so the marketing materials so far have all been in Japanese. For those who had difficulty following the events of the previous trailer, we can now offer the first Attack on Titan trailer with English subtitles, which introduces the premise and the main cast of characters. The visual effects in this trailer reflect the movie’s modest budget, but nonetheless the Titans look very creepy, with their blank eyes and massive mouths (all the better to eat you with). As the trailer explains, the Titans can only be killed by attacking a weak spot on the back of their neck, which the Survey Corps can reach using a grappling system calling Omni-directional Mobility Gear.

TRAILER: Fantastic Four

The AV Club is disappointed:
This final trailer in advance of the film’s upcoming release isn’t all that different in tone or style from the first trailer we got back in January. We’re still mining that “dark ‘n’ gritty” vein, apparently until all the darkness and grittiness has been extracted, and nothing is left except for two hours of celluloid, bereft of even its gloom, a blank void upon the silver screen, staring back at you as you stare at it. On a more positive note, we get a better glimpse of Doctor Doom here, so that’s something. Also Michael B. Jordan’s youngest Storm gets to make a statement that vaguely resembles a joke—maybe there’s even some actual smiling at some point in this film? August 7 will finally reveal the truth.

TRAILER: Air

Via The Wrap:
Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou guard the last humans on the planet after breathable air becomes non-existent in the new trailer for “Air,” a science fiction film produced by “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman. In the trailer, the actors play two engineers tasked with protecting humans in air-tight coffins who are the “last remnants of human civilization.” When one of the facilities doesn’t check in, it becomes clear that something is about to go wrong. A fire breaks out, and the electricity fails, with 59 minutes of reserve air left. “1:59” is a time viewers see a lot throughout the trailer. While saving mankind, they must preserve their own lives as well.

Jurassic World Set Box Office Record

Variety reports:
There’s a new king in town. “Jurassic World” opened to a staggering $511.8 million worldwide, the highest global bow of all time. It marks the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500 million in a single weekend. The dinosaur thriller is the top-ranking film from sea to shining sea, after opening in first place in North America and across all 66 international territories where it debuted. Domestically, “Jurassic World” scored the second-biggest debut in history with $204.8 million, nipping at the heels of “Marvel’s The Avengers'” $207.4 million bow. Its international weekend estimate also takes runner-up position on the all-time charts. The $307.2 million “Jurassic World” generated trails the $314 million racked up by “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.” Those international results were boosted by a mammoth $100 million opening in China. Other openings of note include the United Kingdom and Ireland with $29.6 million, Mexico with $16.2 million, Korea with $14.4 million, France with $12.5 million, Australia with $12.1 million and Germany with $11 million. The only major territory remaining is Japan, where “Jurassic World” will roar on Aug.
Coming in second place domestically was Spy with $16M.

Jurassic World Opens Huge

The reviews range from glowing to scathing, but judging by the first day's receipts, Jurassic World could be the year's top-grossing film. Via the Hollywood Reporter:
Universal's Jurassic World is devouring everything in its path at the Friday box office for a projected North American debut of $155 million-plus — one of the best showings in recent times and the biggest three-day opening ever for the month of June. The $150 million tentpole, rescuing the dinosaur franchise from near-extinction, is expected to earn $65 million-plus on Friday alone. That includes $18.5 million from Thursday evening previews, the biggest late-night showing ever for Universal after Furious 7 ($15.8 million).

If it indeed crosses $150 million domestically, Jurassic World would best Universal's Furious 7 ($147.2 million) to mark the second-best opening of the year to date behind Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million). The current record-holder for June is Man of Steel, which debuted to $116.6 million. Jurassic World, playing in 4,273 theaters domestically and opening 22 years after Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park hit theaters, is getting the widest release ever for a Universal title. Overseas, the fourth installment is rolling out across the world, grossing north of $21 million from its first eight markets on Wednesday, including $17.2 million in China.
According to audience exit polls, 73% are rating the film as a "recommend."

TRAILER: Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2

Via Vanity Fair:
We all know where this is headed. We’ve reached the final installment of the Hunger Games films, and with Peeta brainwashed, District 12 in ashes, and Katniss still furious, the final battle is clearly on the horizon. This first trailer for the film, which arrives November 20, just reminds us of all the pieces that will be put in place for war. Aim your arrow at the Capitol, Katniss; it looks like President Snow’s number is up at last. Without giving away too many of the action sequences that will await Katniss and company in the final battle in the booby-trapped Capitol, the trailer manages to drop some intriguing hints, from the golden light of Finnick’s wedding to the black ooze chasing our heroes in the final moments.
Why couldn't they just call it Hunger Games 4?

Channing Tatum To Play The World's Last Straight Man In Coming Sci-Fi Flick

Via NewNowNext:
Warner Bros. has just snatched up The Forever War, an adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel by Joe Haldeman, with Channing Tatum set to star. The film follows William Mandella, a young student enlisted by Earth’s leaders to help fight the alien Taurans. But his travels through space create a time distortion, meaning while only a few years passes for William, centuries go by on Earth. When he returns home, he doesn’t recognize the planet, which now has one homogenous race and a new language and values. Also new: Overpopulation has led to heterosexually being outlawed. The Forever War was written in 1974—will the metaphor of homosexuality representing totalitarianism stay in the story when it makes it’s transition to the screen?

May The Fourth Be With You

From the official Star Wars site:
One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm: "Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was ‘May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,’ further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.” May the 4th kicks off a season of celebration, particularly since the month of May has always been important to Star Wars fans. The six live-action movies of the Star Wars saga debuted in May, starting with the original Star Wars on May 25, 1977.

TRAILER: Terminator: Genisys

Via The Verge:
The first trailer for Terminator: Genisys has just been released, and it's clear that this fifth movie is a very different kind of Terminator film than what you're used to. It's a reboot of the series, and it's definitely kicking things up a notch (or more) when it comes to action and scale. The film takes place in an alternate universe where Sarah Connor is a total badass even back in 1984 and, for some reason, has a Terminator for a father. It sounds totally insane, and it probably is. Even for how crazy everything looks, it's hard for any fan of the original two movies not to be intrigued by what's going on here.

Disney Reveals Star Wars VII Subtitle

Via the Verge:
Star Wars Episode: VII finally has a subtitle: The Force Awakens. Disney quietly announced the title on Twitter this morning — a somewhat strange approach to what is easily the most anticipated film in production right now. The title feels like a very classic Star Wars name, and it manages to create that feeling even without directly mimicking a prior title. That's no surprise given that director J.J. Abrams has made it clear that Episode VII is meant to feel like an extension of the original trilogy. He's said to be leaning heavily on practical effects, and the fact that he's brought back much of the original cast should help a good deal too.
Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens has a December 2015 release date.
