New Blog: Celebs On The Subway
I've finally sort of perfected the "I'm not looking at you" subway stare, which I've recently used on Liam Neeson, Liev Shreiber, and Marisa Tomei. More about such encounters can be found on this new blog.Labels: blogs, Hugh Jackman, NYC, subway

Broadway Raves For Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman's latest Broadway show officially opened last night and the reviewers are gushing. Even the New York Times' Ben Brantley is swept away:The impossibly talented, impossibly energetic Mr. Jackman is a glorious dinosaur among live entertainers of the 21st century: an honest-to-gosh old-fashioned matinee idol who connects to his audiences without a hint of contempt for them or for himself. A movie star with a major action franchise (as Wolverine in the “X-Men” series), Mr. Jackman says he’s happiest as a song-and-dance man, the kind who conducts mass flirtation with a wink, a wriggle, a firmly handled melody and maybe a cane and some tap shoes. If you thought tickets were impossible to find before the above-linked NYT rave, good luck getting one now. The show's limited run is scheduled to end on January 1st, but with a box office bonanza like this, don't be surprised to see a "held over" announcement come late December.

- The delay-plagued Spider-Man has pushed back opening day yet again, this time to January 11th, missing the entire (and very lucrative) holiday box office.

Don't Mess With Wolverine & Bond
Boy Culture tips us to this:
Wolverine and James Bond are not to be messed with, especially when they're doing the whole acting thing. Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig were trying to perform their play "A Steady Rain" Wednesday night in NYC -- but some nitwit forgot to turn off his mobile phone. Jackman set the dude straight -- staying in character all the while. Minutes later, the ring tone echoed through the theater again and Craig's response was Tony-worthy.

Sen. Sam Brownback: We Don't Want Man-Beasts Or She-Fishes!
Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), upset about all those centaurs ravaging the Kansas plains, has submitted a bill banning the creation of animal-human hybrids. From the hilarious Jeff Vrabel: Republican Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas and the dark side of Neptune and 2008 presidential candidate for exactly 24 minutes (less time than Fred Thompson, just in case you were worried that was impossible), introduced legislation banning the creation of terrifying-sounding ANIMAL-HUMAN HYBRIDS, such as mermaids, or Perez Hilton. “Creating human-animal hybrids, which permanently alter the genetic makeup of an organism, will challenge the very definition of what it means to be human and is a violation of human dignity and a grave injustice," Brownback said, adding, "A PLANET WHERE APES EVOLVED FROM MAN?" Needless to say, this story has caused about 80 percent of political bloggers to lose their Red Bulled minds in near-hysteric glee, though nearly all of their joke-posts were decorated with an image of the Little Mermaid, which doesn't do much to deny the obvious suspicion that people who spend their lives sitting in front of a computers would read "human-animal hybrid" and immediately think "hot shirtless teen mermaid" (a phrase which, incidentally, is going to send this column's Google hits into FREAKING ORBIT).Won't somebody please think about the furries?

Dancing Is For Poofs
Hugh Jackman: "In another world, another life, probably growing up in another country, I might have been more of a dancer. In fact I was going down that road when I was about 12. I was encouraged to do that, and I remember my brother saying, 'Ah, you poof,' so I gave it up. I dropped it like a hot rock. I didn't have the guts of Billy Elliot at the time!"He still turned out to be a pretty good dancer, yes?
