TRAILER: Deadpool

TIME recaps:
“One thing that never survives this place is a sense of humor,” evil sidekick Ajax, played by Ed Skrein, tells Ryan Reynolds’ character Wade Wilson, a.k.a Deadpool, while strapping him onto a gurney. “We’ll see about that, Posh Spice.” Wilson deadpans. If the first official trailer for the eagerly-awaited Marvel movie Deadpool is any indication, the movie promises just as many laughs as it does thrills. The red band trailer, which begins with the cancer diagnosis which prompts Wilson to volunteer for the genetic experimentation program that gives him his superpowers (including an inability to be killed), is an action-packed blur of gunshots, punches, smashed cars and…more jokes.

TRAILER: Fantastic Four

The AV Club is disappointed:
This final trailer in advance of the film’s upcoming release isn’t all that different in tone or style from the first trailer we got back in January. We’re still mining that “dark ‘n’ gritty” vein, apparently until all the darkness and grittiness has been extracted, and nothing is left except for two hours of celluloid, bereft of even its gloom, a blank void upon the silver screen, staring back at you as you stare at it. On a more positive note, we get a better glimpse of Doctor Doom here, so that’s something. Also Michael B. Jordan’s youngest Storm gets to make a statement that vaguely resembles a joke—maybe there’s even some actual smiling at some point in this film? August 7 will finally reveal the truth.

TRAILER: Fantastic Four

Via TIME:
A new full-length trailer for Fantastic Four has been released, offering fans an in-depth look at this summer’s superhero reboot starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), the nearly three-minute trailer reveals the origins story of four explorers who survive an inter-dimensional travel mission and return to Earth each with a separate super power. Later in the trailer, the ominous hooded villain, Doctor Doom, is revealed between seconds of high-velocity action. “If you want to stop him, it’s going to take everything you have,” says Dr. Franklin Storm (House of Cards’ Reg E. Cathey).

TRAILER: Batman Vs Superman

Via CNN:
A day after it was leaked online (and swiftly removed), director Zack Snyder has released what he calls the "not blurry, not pirated" teaser trailer for 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' via Twitter. Ben Affleck's Batman takes center stage in this first glimpse at Warner Bros.' 2016 superhero smackdown, following a montage of commentators wondering whether or not Superman is less a defender of mankind than a potential threat. While Jeremy Irons' Alfred talks about "the fever, the rage ... the feeling of powerlessness that turns good men cruel," we see the new Dark Knight fly and drive through explosions before, armored, staring down Henry Cavill's Superman and asking him whether or not he bleeds. "You will," promises Batman. The movie follows up on the events of 2013's 'Man of Steel,' with Cavill and Amy Adams returning as Superman and Lois Lane, respectively. In addition to Affleck and Irons, the sequel also introduces Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, though neither of the latter characters are hinted at in this teaser — but then, something has to be left for the main trailer, doesn't it?

TRAILER: iZombie

Slash Film has the recap:
Based on the DC Comic of the same name, iZombie is a show about a young woman named Liv (get it?), who is holding up pretty well despite being dead. Liv works with dead bodies, and which probably helps out when she gets hungry and needs to eat some brains. And her show, based on the first iZombie trailer, looks fairly entertaining, if also pretty familiar. iZombie is the DC Comics show (well, actually drawn from a Vertigo Comics title — that imprint being a subset of DC) which has pulled less attention than other shows like Arrow and The Flash. That lesser attention is in part because this show draws on a more obscure book, and also because we hadn’t seen anything to indicate the show’s tone. Now we know: it’s like Veronica Mars, with a bit of a whiff of the undead.

Underoos Are Back (In Adult Sizes)

Cosplay costume alert. Via IO9:
Right now, Hot Topic is selling seven sets — Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Captain America, He-Man and Skeletor — for just under $20 each (new Batman Underoos definitely exist, but they seem to be sold out online). Happily, besides being for kids and adults, that's a 50/50 split of characters for guys and gals. I suspect — and I certainly hope — that this is just a trial run to see how they sell, and that more will come. If so, given how many licenses Hot Topic carries, do you know what we kind of Underoos we could possibly get if we're lucky? Deadpool! Transformers! Supernatural! Halo! Harry Potter! Rocky Horror Picture Show! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS AND AWESOME.
The brand first launched in 1977.

Archie Comics: Archie To Die After Taking Bullet For His Gay Friend Kevin Keller

Mashable has the story:
Archie Andrews will die taking a bullet for his gay best friend. The famous freckle-faced comic book icon is meeting his demise in Wednesday's installment of "Life with Archie" when he intervenes in an assassination attempt on Kevin Keller, Archie Comics' first openly gay character. Andrews' death, which was first announced in April, will mark the conclusion of the series that focuses on grown-up renditions of Andrews and his Riverdale pals. "The way in which Archie dies is everything that you would expect of Archie," said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO. " He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It's what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years." Keller's character first joined Veronica Lodge, Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones and Reggie Mantle in the Archie Comics spin-off "Veronica" in 2010. He later appeared in his own solo title. In "Life with Archie," Keller is a married military veteran and newly elected senator who's pushing for more gun control in Riverdale after his husband was involved in a shooting.

Campaign To Boycott Movie Written By NOM Board Member Heats Up

The Wrap takes note of the campaign to boycott Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game:
The sci-fi action movie “Ender’s Game” isn’t out until Nov. 1, but it’s already the target of an organized boycott. The group Geeks Out has launched an online protest and is asking people to “Skip Ender’s Game” because of anti-gay marriage comments made by Orson Scott Card, author of the 1985 book upon which the Lionsgate film is based.  "Do not buy a ticket at the theater, do not purchase the DVD, do not watch it on-demand. Ignore all merchandise and toys," the site implores. “By pledging to Skip Ender’s Game, we can send a clear and serious message to Card and those that do business with his brand of anti-gay activism -- whatever he’s selling, we’re not buying."
The boycott and petition site is here. (Tipped by JMG reader Neil)

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Orson Scott Card calls for Christians to overthrow the government over same-sex marriage.  Petition launched for DC Comics to fire Card, who had been hired to write an issue of Superman. Brian Brown gets outraged over threats to boycott DC Comics.  Illustrator pulls out of Superman issue over Card's hiring.

Archie Comics Taunts One Million Moms

The coming issue of Kevin Keller from Archie Comics was written partly as a jab at One Million Moms, according to author Dan Parent.
Parent said he wrote the story after efforts to remove a comic magazine showing Keller getting married drew at complaints. One Million Moms, a project of The American Family Association, asked Toys R Us not to display “Life With Archie” No. 16 near its checkout aisles. Toys R Us did not, and the issue went on to sell out its print run. Parent called the new story a “playful poke” at the protest. Publisher and co-CEO Jon Goldwater said the fact that any kiss is being shown in the pages of an Archie Comics book is a step in and of itself.
