AUSTRALIA: Beyonce Inspires Skyscraper

In case you didn’t have enough proof that Beyoncé is slowly taking over the world, Australia just approved plans to build a 68-story skyscraper in the shape of the singer’s famously curvaceous figure. While there have been plenty of oddly shaped structures that have gone up in the past—such as these constructions in the form of a robot, a lotus flower, and a basket—this is the first time a building has been inspired by a living pop star. The architecture firm Elenberg Fraser unveiled its plans for the undulating skyscraper yesterday and admits on its website that the shape of the Premier Tower was ultimately borrowed from Beyoncé’s “Ghost” video.

The tower will go up across from Melbourne's famed Spencer Street train station.

Oh, what, you thought the Grammys were over? Well, they are. But the Grammy producers couldn’t resist throwing some more musical prestige up on network TV. And so last night, CBS aired a big tribute show to Stevie Wonder, who is, at the very least, someone extremely deserving of a big tribute show. And Beyoncé showing up on TV is just never a bad thing. During a nine-minute medley, Beyoncé sang Wonder’s “Fingertips,” and she also did “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” with Ed Sheeran and “Higher Ground” with Gary Clark Jr. The arrangements were a bit schmaltzy, as they always are in situations like this, but Beyoncé has a superhuman ability to come out of things like this looking like a million bucks. That's right — without any pre-promotion. As if this bombshell — which, in her Instagram announcement, she described as a "visual album" — needed anything else, each song also comes with a music video and a download of BEYONCÉ will also score you three additional video.

Beyonce/Jay-Z Fallout: House Bill Would Further Restrict Travel To Cuba

Jay-Z and Beyonce took a trip to Cuba to celebrate their fifth anniversary earlier this year, prompting nasty criticism from the wingnuts, who really hate the pop superstars for backing Obama. This week the GOP took its revenge.

Americans can travel to Cuba only with the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s okay, and trips are generally limited to academic, cultural, religious or journalistic pursuits. But the U.S. House of Representatives appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday passed what some are calling the “Jay-Z and Beyoncé” bill, which would restrict travel to academic visits. Bronx Rep. Jose Serrano, the panel’s top Democrat and a proponent of opening up Cuba to U.S. tourism, said the provision was an explicit “response to the trip by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.”

Serrano added that he does not expect the bill to pass.

Guns For Beyonce Tickets?

Hip-hop mogul Blue Williams wants to launch a program in which New Yorkers can trade in their guns for Beyonce concert tickets. And the NYPD might be down for it.

Williams, the head of Family Tree Entertainment, has pitched the city’s first private-sector gun buyback program to NYPD brass and is waiting for Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly’s okay. "We want to get as many guns off the streets, and if this works, we’d like to support it,” Kelly told the Daily News, adding that the proposal needs more study. If given the green light, Williams — who has managed the wildly successful careers of OutKast and Cee-Lo Green and has the ear of hip-hop and rap royalty — said he’ll solicit help from none other than Beyoncé.

Beyonce has three concerts slated for Brooklyn's brand new 19,000-seat Barclays Center in August. Tickets start at $225 and go as high as $3529.  And that's before the scalpers add their cut.
