Casting Call For Unhappy Gays

This just hit the JMG in-box:
Casting for New Bravo Network Reality Series

We are casting couples that are currently separated or separating from marriages, CIVIL UNIONS or common-law marriages. As part of the television series, couples will enter into a real mediation process with one of the nations top divorce & mediation attorneys, Vikki Ziegler. Your assets will be appraised, mediation is free and you'll receive compensation!

Vikki Ziegler, a practicing attorney of matrimonial law and civil litigation with over 14 years of experience, has teamed up with Bravo for an exciting new series about people who are ready to move on to a new chapter in their lives.
Gays aren't specifically mentioned in the pitch, but that screaming CIVIL UNIONS is the giveaway. Also: Bravo. Vikki generously offers to "not delve into your relationship or past if you so choose."  Wouldn't that be the juicy part of the show? Oh, and unattractive downscale couples need not apply.

UPDATE: According to the website on the above flyer, the show is to be called Untying The Knot.

Anti-Christine Quinn Ads Begin

The New York Times reports:
As a succession of blurbs from newspaper articles suggest that she has waffled on key issues, the narrator concludes, “When Christine Quinn doesn’t support our values, how can you support her for mayor?” So goes a commercial attacking Ms. Quinn that, starting on Monday, is scheduled to appear on cable television stations like MSNBC and Bravo for three weeks. The 30-second commercial, the first of the mayoral race, comes quite early in the primary season, underscoring the competitive nature of the contest to succeed Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. The commercial is not the work of one of Ms. Quinn’s opponents for the Democratic nomination, but of a coalition of left-leaning labor unions and Democratic activists who say they are not backing anyone in particular.
According to the Times, the group has pledged $1M to the campaign, which launches with a $250K television buy.  A spokesman for Quinn is blaming the ads on NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, who is also running for mayor and reportedly has ties to some members of the group behind the ads. A spokesman for de Blasio has denied his involvement.

GLAAD Manhattan 2012

A couple of days ago my loyal photographer Dr. Jeff and I attended GLAAD Manhattan, a casino-themed fundraiser that swarmed with a couple of dozen of the Housewives, news anchors, pop stars, nightlife legends and a few regular schmoes like us. In the slideshow below you'll find the likes of MSNBC host Thomas Roberts and his fiance, GMA weatherman Sam Champion, disco legend Martha Wash, American Idol's Kimberly Locke, radio star Elvis Duran, actor Wilson Cruz, and a galaxy of Bravo-verse stars that we'll have to depend on you to name. (The duck lips will help you ID the Housewives.) I'm in there somewhere at the end. Full-screen photos.

Today In Fake Apologies

"I am so sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone with my comments last night on Watch What Happens Live." - Patti Stanger, host of Millionaire Matchmaker. During the show, Stanger told one viewer that he looked straight and wasn't queeny. "That's a compliment." She also claimed that gay men are incapable of monogamy and that all Jewish men are liars. Bravo has issued their own apology in the face of calls to cancel Stanger's show.

Asshat Of The Day - Patti Stanger

Yesterday Patti Stanger, host of Millionaire Matchmaker, made a lot of enemies while appearing on a Bravo talk show.
Taking calls from viewers, Stanger repeatedly packaged gay and Jewish stereotypes as insight in a segment that offended viewers and made host Andy Cohen visibly uncomfortable. Things started to get uncomfortable when a gay man called in asking a question about maintaining an open long-term relationship. Stanger said, "In the gay world, it will always be open," and continued, "I've tried to curb you people." She then referenced a gay sex site. Andy Cohen recoiled in shock. "I'm down for the monogamy," he said, pushing back on her comments. She immediately burst out laughing. "When was the last time you had a boyfriend?" she asked, incredulously. Another caller hit on similar themes, and got a similar response from Stanger. He called in saying that he was looking for a committed relationship in L.A., but was having trouble finding people with the same priorities. "You're very handsome," she said, "I thought you were straight." She then clarified that he wasn't "queeny," as Cohen made a funny face that expressed his discomfort.
Stanger went on to advise against dating Jewish men because "they lie." Today social media sites have lit up with calls for Bravo to cancel the show.

Quote Of The Day - Rep. Barney Frank

“I think it’s possible to have fun, and even to poke fun at people in my businesses, without this kind of completely unfair attack. And while I don’t usually feel compelled to comment on what various entertainers do, since you did include me in that show I wanted to make it very clear that I thought what you did was wholly unfair and inappropriate. It’s the kind of thing that makes it less likely that I or others can cooperate with you in the future.” - Rep. Barney Frank, writing to Kathy Griffin over last week's episode of her show in which she referred to Sen. Scott Brown's daughters as "prostitutes."
