CLEVELAND: 99 Year-Old Runner Ida Keeling Sets Record At Gay Games
Via local television:
"My doctor told me two years straight I'm as healthy as a healthy 20-year-old. Hooray!" Keeling said prior to her race. Her coach and daughter, Shelley Kelling, reminded Ida to stay in her lane and focus on the finish line. When the starter fired his pistol, the crowd immediately began cheering for the senior citizen from New York City and the clapping and whistling didn't stop until she finished, with a time of 59.80 seconds. She came in last place, but that didn't matter to anyone, including Ida. "I feel I'm still a winner," she said. Shelley Kelling said no woman at her mother's age has ever recorded a faster time in an internationally certified 100-meter race. "She does not only inspire people that are young or that are out here. It's a message that you can do this at any age," Shelley added.

80 Year-Old Salsa Dancer Wows Judges, Draws Controversy On Britain's Got Talent
Via the Guardian:
It felt like another Susan Boyle moment, in the opening episode of the new series of Britain's Got Talent, when a 79-year-old grandmother suddenly revealed herself to be an extraordinary salsa dancer. But the shock on the faces of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges on the ITV talent show as Sarah "Paddy" Jones was thrown into the air by her Spanish dance partner Nico Espinosa, some 40 years her junior, may not be shared by everyone. Unlike Boyle, who was propelled from obscurity to international stardom when she sang I Dreamed a Dream in front of Cowell in 2009, Jones is already a talent show winner and Guinness World Record holder. Jones, from Stourbridge in the West Midlands, won Spanish talent show Tu Si Que Vales five years ago and went on to appear on This Morning and the Paul O'Grady Show, both on ITV. She later gained a place in the Guinness World Records in 2010 as the world's "oldest acrobatic salsa dancer". The producers of Britain's Got Talent defended her inclusion, saying anyone can apply to be on the show and none of the judging panel, including Cowell, knew that Jones had previously won a TV contest.

Seniors Make Deal With Queens McD's
Last week a McDonald's in Queens made headlines after calling the police to evict senior citizens that were spending their days taking up all the restaurant's tables. The New York Daily News now reports that McDonald's management and the seniors have come to an agreement.
It's a McDeal. A group of Korean senior citizens and the manager of a McDonald’s in Flushing have reached a detente over use of the scarce seating area in the fast food restaurant. Management has agreed to ease the 20-minute seating limit during off-peak hours and post signs stating the policy in Korean and Mandarin. In turn, the seniors will give up their seats during the busy hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. if other diners are looking for a spot to sit. “We had to dig deeper to comprehend the pride of a small business owner as well as the pride of our seniors to seek a place to socialize,” said Assemblyman Ron Kim, who helped broker the deal during meetings on Sunday. In addition, the restaurant will look into hiring workers who speak Mandarin and Korean, and a local senior center will provide transportation at the location to give patrons another place to hang out.

Headline Of The Day
This story has been all over the NYC blogs this week and got more traction yesterday from the New York Times.
Shortly after New Year’s Day, Man Hyung Lee, 77, was nursing a coffee in his usual seat in a narrow booth at a McDonald’s in Flushing, Queens, when two police officers stepped into the fluorescent light of the restaurant. Mr. Lee said the officers had been called because he and his friends — a revolving group who shuffle into the McDonald’s on the corner of Parsons and Northern Boulevards on walkers, or with canes, in wheelchairs or with infirm steps, as early as 5 a.m. and often linger until well after dark — had, as they seem to do every day, long overstayed their welcome. “They ordered us out,” Mr. Lee said from his seat in the same McDonald’s booth a week after the incident, beneath a sign that said customers have 20 minutes to finish their food. (He had already been there two hours.) “So I left,” he said. “Then I walked around the block and came right back again.”RELATED: Many, many years ago when I worked for AMC Theaters I was once assigned to a multiplex in a (now-demolished) derelict West Palm Beach mall that was locally famous for its battles against the hundreds of seniors that spent their days lounging on the mall's benches and "stealing our air conditioning," as one security guard said to me. The mall's position was that the seniors were destroying its reputation among young shoppers "who actually buy things" and were scaring off new tenants. I responded by scheduling weekday 10am shows just for the seniors, which the mall did not appreciate.

Oldest Man In History Dies At Age 116
The oldest man in the history of the world has died in Japan at the age of 116.
Jiroemon Kimura, a former postman, died of natural causes in hospital in his hometown of Kyotango, western Japan, in the early hours of Wednesday, city officials told CNN. In December, Kimura had been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person, and as the oldest man whose age had ever been verified. Kimura, who attributed his longevity to eating light, healthy meals, worked for the post office until his retirement in 1962, continuing to carry out agricultural work until the age of 90. Only the third man in history verified to have reached the age of 115, Kimura had seven children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grand children and 14 great-great grandchildren.Born on April 19th, 1897, Kimura had been the world's only male survivor of the 19th century. The oldest human in history was France's Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the verified age of 122.

Evil Seniors Love Godless Gays
"Special rights for immoral behavior. Advocacy for same-sex marriage. Support for homosexual adoption. These are some of the things that the AARP does with the money from dues that they receive from the millions over the age of 50 that they’re supposed to represent. While many think of it as an organization that’s all about insurance, travel discounts, and group outings with friends, this is the very sad truth about the AARP. And, in spite of the fact that ObamaCare will probably lead to much more euthanasia and health care rationing for the elderly, AARP has been one of the leading supporters. If they don’t represent you, you can quit." - Theocracy activist Janet Porter, speaking on her national radio program.Labels: Christianists, Janet Porter, seniors, theocracy
