Bob Mould performed on The Late Show With David Letterman last night in support of his latest album Beauty & Ruin, which came out last summer. He played two tracks from it — “Tomorrow Morning” and “Kid With A Crooked Face” — along with his backing band, and Letterman seemed pretty impressed. Jason Narducy, the bassist for the band, tweeted that “people in the studio audience confirmed that dust fell from the rafters as we played!”
The former Hüsker Dü/Sugar frontman Bob Mould is a punk rock legend, and it turns out that he’s also really, really great at performing on late-night TV talk shows. Remember when he ripped through “I Don’t Know You Anymore” on Conan? Jesus. Ridiculous. Last night, Mould was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and he once again rocked hard enough that I’m worried he’s going to break something one of these days. Mould usually plays with Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster, but last night, he had a ringer behind him, as Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins filled in.
This year's LifeRide has been an incredible journey so far. We're so fortunate to have spent it with such amazing celebrity riders and participants who are dedicated to raising money for amfAR and supporting this important cause. Our final stop will be in NEW YORK CITY! Join us for our finale celebration this Tuesday, August 12th starting at 6:30 pm.
Also appearing tomorrow: Bob Mould and Mary J. Blige.
As part of their Made In Minnesota series, the music channel Noisey took gay rocker Bob Mould back to the former record store basement in St. Paul where Husker Du once rehearsed decades ago. The store is now an African-American hair salon. Other Twin Cities rockers from that era (Babes In Toyland, The Replacements) also appear in the clip.
Punk legend Bob Mould appeared on the Conan O'Brien show last night to rip though I Don't Know You Anymore, the hit track from his 11th solo album, Beauty & Ruin, which came out this week.
Bob Mould has done a Funny Or Die clip for atrack from his 11th solo album, Beauty & Ruin, which comes out tomorrow. Stereogumreviews:
Bob Mould is a punk rock legend still bashing out remarkably vigorous and effective anthems. (My co-worker Michael says he’s making the best music of his career right now, which is lunacy, but the mere fact that someone could think that right now is amazing.) But legend status and good songs don’t necessarily guarantee a healthy income, and that’s the idea of Mould’s new video for his driving new song “I Don’t Know You Anymore.” Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy stars an an oily douchebag version of himself, and he helps Mould and his bandmates Jason Narducy and Jon Wurster figure out how to sell things on 2014. (Fake Apple logos help, apparently.)
It appears that next week's Blowoff party in DC may be the last one.
Saturday, January 18th will be the last Blowoff for the foreseeable future. We’re taking an indefinite break to focus on other projects. Eternal thanks to everyone who has made Blowoff a success for the past 11 years. It has been important to many people — us three included. We hope to see you on MAL Saturday for one more BLOWOFF DC celebration! - Nick Lopata, Rich Morel, and Bob Mould.
Eleven years is a impressively long run for any party, much less one that catered to a somewhat older crowd that typically doesn't do a lot of clubbing. Over the last decade I've been been to dozens of Blowoffs, mostly in Manhattan - but also in DC, San Francisco, Provincetown, and Brooklyn. I'll always remember it with a smile. Thanks, guys. Tickets to the DC party are available here.
Blowoff will bust its sweaty, furry self into the Gramercy Theatre this Friday. Doors open at 11:00pm and advance tickets are here. Be advised, the last party sold out.
Two of my favorite parties will land in Provincetown during Bear Week 2013, which starts this weekend. Furball with DJ Corey Craig is Sunday, Blowoff with DJs Rich Morel and Bob Mould is Tuesday. Both parties at are the famed Boatslip, which doesn't do advance tickets. Parties start and end early, as does everything in Provincetown.
In celebration of their Pride weekend debut at their new Manhattan venue, today we have two pairs of Blowoff tickets and two Blowoff t-shirts to give away. Blowoff takes place tomorrow night at the Gramercy Theater in the Flatiron District at East 23rd Street and Lexington. This party will likely sell out and advance tickets are recommended. Enter to win by commenting on this post. Only enter once and please remember to leave an email address. If you can't be in Manhattan tomorrow night, your winning entry is transferable to your favorite dancing bear. Entries close at 8PM tonight and the winners will be notified promptly. Several Blowoff t-shirt designs are at the link above. Bear not included.

All proceeds go to help the homeless LGBT youth of New York City. At this writing the bidding on my own shirt puts me in a respectable sixth third place! Thanks to everybody!

Ali Forney Center Announces Shred Of Hope Celebrity Online T-Shirt Auction
A galaxy of stars have come together to support the Ali Forney Center's Shred Of Hope, an online auction in which you can bid on original t-shirts created by gay celebrities and straight allies. Each of the participants worked with designers at the Manhattan-based fetish wear company Nasty Pig to create one-of-a-kind "shredders," which are sort of not-tank-tops.
Among the participants are activist and author Dan Savage and his husband Terry Miller, Tony winner Alan Cumming, Tony winner Jeff Whitty, Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black, talk show host Andy Cohen, rock star Bob Mould, MSNBC commentator Keith Boykin, Animal Planet host Scott Lope, rocker JD Samson, actress Ally Sheedy, pop superstars Michael Stipe, Adam Lambert and Jake Shears, and many more.
Via press release:
This June 20th trailblazing menswear label Nasty Pig will launch Shred of Hope, a fundraiser for the Ali Forney Center (AFC), the nation’s largest services and advocacy organization working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) runaway and homeless youth. Shred of Hope is an auction of one-of-a-kind “Shredder” t-shirts created by celebrities. The auction will take place entirely online from June 20th through June 27th at ShredofHope.com. 100% of the proceeds of Shred of Hope will support AFC’s work to protect and empower homeless LGBT youth, and to help them in becoming safe and independent as they move from adolescence to adulthood. On June 20th Nasty Pig and the Ali Forney Center will host a launch party for Shred of Hope at the iconic Rootstein Gallery in New York City. Nasty Pig models will walk the floor selling opportunities to win one-of-a-kind Shred of Hope items and experiences to benefit the AFC.

NOTE: Somehow yours truly was also invited to participate. While I'm not a rock star or an Oscar winner, I'm going to depend on my faithful flying monkeys to make sure that MY shirt auctions well. The JMG logo is on the back and everybody signed their shirts. The auction starts online on June 20th.
Blowoff will bust its sweaty, furry self into Chelsea's Highline Ballroom this Friday. Doors open at 11:30pm. Advance tickets here. This party will probably sell out. Love the new graphic, guys!

The video for Bob Mould's latest single debuted today on the website for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Directed by Jon Glaser, the video stars Bob, drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, The Mountain Goats) and bassist Jason Narducy (Spl:t S:ngle, Verbow) in the perfect union of rock music and dark comedy. Bob and his band will make their Late Night with Jimmy Fallon debut on Thursday, February 28.
Friday In New York City: Blowoff To Raise Money For Ali Forney Center
The favorite traveling party of dancing bears nationwide, Blowoff lumbers its sweaty, furry, beer-soaked self back to New York City this Friday at the Highline Ballroom. And this time, DJs Bob Mould and Rich Morel have a special message:
For the last seven years, the Ali Forney Center has helped LGBT youth who have been displaced for many reasons. Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the drop-in center in Chelsea. And now they need our help more than ever. Rich and I are grateful for the support NYC has given BLOWOFF. This Friday we're donating a portion of our proceeds to the Ali Forney Center. Thanks for letting us be a small part of your community. We're proud of you all! Bob + Rich
Ali Forney's now-destroyed drop-in center was just a few blocks from the Highline, which was undamaged. In addition to Blowoff's generous donation, staffers from Ali Forney will be on hand during the party to answer questions and accept donations from attendees. Tuck an extra $20 into your boot, Daddy!
Doors open at 11:30pm and advance tickets are recommended. Between Hurricane Sandy's cancellation of all those Halloween events and the celebratory mood over the election, you can expect that this party will sell out.
RELATED: For the next 24 hours GLAAD is giving their text-to-donate number over for the use of Ali Forney Center. Text "GLAAD" to 80888 to send $10 by phone. Credit card donations can be made on the AFC's site.
