CALIFORNIA: Hate Group Files Anti-Trans "Bathroom Bill" Ballot Measure Proposal

Via press release:
Privacy advocates have taken the first step to prohibiting unwanted intrusions in California bathrooms, showers and locker rooms. Privacy For All has submitted language to California elections officials to place the Personal Privacy Protection Act on the 2016 ballot. If approved by California voters, the Personal Privacy Protection Act requires that individuals "use facilities in accordance with their biological sex in all government buildings". The proposed initiative does not require private businesses to maintain sex separated facilities, but protects these businesses from legal action if they do require employees and patrons to "use facilities in accordance with their biological sex." "We have great compassion for any person that is uncomfortable in traditional, sex separated facilities. But we also want to protect the privacy that most of us expect when we are in public bathrooms, showers and dressing areas" said Gina Gleason, a proponent of the initiative.
See the ballot proposal.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Last year Privacy For All failed in their attempt to force a public vote to repeal a California a law that protect transgender students, but they nearly succeeded in gathering enough petition signatures. Privacy For All leader Karen England has organized public school walkouts over the anti-bullying Day Of Silence. In 2009 England filed a failed federal lawsuit to overturn California's bill protecting LGBT students from bullying. In 2010 she tried to get then-California Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado to file an appeal of the overturn of Prop 8 while then-Gov. Schwarzenegger was out of the country. She then ran an unsuccessful campaign for Maldonado's job. In 2011 she launched a campaign to block transgender adults from changing their birth certificates. England was also one of the louder bigots against the repeal of DADT.

CALIFORNIA: Christian Groups Fail In Bid To Repeal Transgender Rights Law

A coalition of Christian and anti-gay hate groups has failed in their campaign to force a public vote on a repeal of the California law that protects transgender students from discrimination. But it was close.
The law's opponents needed at least 504,760 signatures to force a public vote on the statute approved by the California Legislature and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last year. They submitted 619,387, but county election officers determined that just 487,484 of them were valid, according to a final count posted on the secretary of state's website. The law at issue took effect Jan. 1. It guarantees students in grades K-12 the right to use the school restrooms and to participate in the sex-segregated activities that correspond with their expressed genders instead of their school records.
The haters say they aren't giving up.
Karen England of the Privacy for All Students coalition said the proposed referendum's backers are not conceding defeat yet. They plan to review the disqualified signatures and, depending what they find, go to court to try to get enough added to the final tally so the measure would have to be put to voters. "We are preparing for the next stage of the battle," England said in a statement. "After months of waiting, we now get to see why so many signatures were thrown out. Certainly some signers were not registered to vote or had moved without changing their address. But it is also certain that many of those signatures were rejected based on reasons that will not survive a legal challenge."

CA Hate Group Claims It Has Signatures To Force Vote On Trans Student Rights

The anti-gay Capitol Resource Group claims that its coalition has gathered enough petition signatures to force a public vote on repealing the bill that grants rights to transgender students.
A coalition of conservative groups called Privacy for all Students submitted 620,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November 2014 ballot, said Frank Schubert, the political strategist handling the signature gathering effort. To qualify, at least 505,000 valid signatures must be submitted. To verify the signatures, each of California's 58 counties will first check that the overall count is correct, then conduct a random sampling to make sure they are legitimate. After that, it is likely the state would order a full review. If, after all of the reviews, the group has the requisite number of valid signatures, the initiative would qualify for the ballot. "Many people said we had no chance to collect over half a million signatures in just 90 days, but we have proven them wrong by gathering over 115,000 more signatures than the minimum needed," Gina Gleason of the group Faith and Public Policy, said in a statement.
Frank Schubert is the "marketing mastermind" for NOM, which has aggressively backed the repeal effort. The bill allows transgender students to use the restroom of their choice and to decide if they'd prefer to play sports on a girls or boys team.

Quote of The Day - Karen England

"If you're born a male or a female, then you should remain a male or a female on your birth certificate. It's actually quite deceptive -- and it shouldn't be legal to be able to have a birth certificate that has you identified as one sex when you're really another sex altogether. I don't know why we need to have special privileges on something this radical and controversial for people who are wanting to go through a sex change, or for people who are saying they want to go through it but want to conceal their identity or want to -- quote, unquote -- 'get married' under Proposition 8. It's just radical, and I can't believe they're even discussing this at the state legislative level." - California Research Institute spokesbigot Karen England.

CALIFORNIA: Anti-Gay Bigot Karen England Running For Lt. Governor

Capitol Resource Institute president Karen England is SO pissed at Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, she is running for his job. Last week Maldonado blew off England's demand that he file an appeal of Prop 8 while the Governator was out of the country.
England, a board member of the conservative California Republican Assembly, argues Maldonado doesn't offer a strong enough conservative contrast to the Democratic nominee, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. "Having a hard time seeing any difference between the candidatse for Lt. Governor? Now we have a conservative choice," reads the opening page of England's campaign website. She wrote in a column posted last night on the conservative website Flashreport.org that she decided to jump in the race after Maldonado declined to defy Gov. Arnold Schwarzengger and appeal the recent Propostiion 8 ruling during his six-day stint as acting governor. "To some this may seem extreme or be dismissed as a publicity stunt. It is neither. It is the proper response when we find the two front runners for the office of Lieutenant Governor do not share our principles, our values or our respect for the legal system," England wrote.
England's campaign site presently shows zero endorsements.

California: Haters Fail In Bid To Repeal LGBT Student Protections

Save Our Kids, an organization headed by the repulsive Karen England, has failed in their bid to repeal the California Students Civil Rights Act, as yesterday a Sacramento Superior Court dismissed their lawsuit. The suit specifically objected to discrimination protection granted to LGBT students. Via press release:
The court held that the plaintiffs had failed to show any way in which the statute was even allegedly unlawful. "We are pleased the court rejected this attack on the Student Civil Rights Act," said Carolyn Laub, Gay-Straight Alliance Network Executive Director. "School should be safe place for all children, including those who are-or are perceived to be-lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender." The lawsuit was filed on November 5, 2008. State Superintendent Jack O'Connell, represented by California Attorney General Jerry Brown, filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on January 8, 2009. On March 19, 2009, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, the Transgender Law Center, Equality California, and Gay-Straight Alliance Network filed a friend-of-the-court brief supporting the motion to dismiss.
This is great win for the good guys, but also a chilling reminder of how vicious homophobic Christianists can be - they filed a federal lawsuit to allow the brutalization of gay youth. Save Our Kids previously failed to raise the necessary petition signatures to place a repeal of anti-bullying laws on the state ballot.

We ARE Intolerant Of Bigotry

Anti-gay hater Karen England and the Capitol Resource Institute are upset about the phone calls and emails you sent them about their Day Of Silence walkout plans, citing them as examples of gay intolerance. Because people are supposed be tolerant of bigotry. Their new video in response to your complaints is at the bottom of this post.
Our staff is receiving threatening voicemails and emails, some of which are featured in our brand new Louder than Silence video. This mail is all in response to our joining the Day of Silence Walkout Coalition. "You may not be gay, but you may be next," said one email, which included a photo of a casket. [JMG: The casket is actually that of 11 year-old Carl Walker-Hoover, who killed himself over anti-gay bullying.] "I wish you would just go kill yourself," said a voicemail left on our phone.

Day of Silence is supposed to be a campaign against name calling, bullying, and harassment. In messages from Day of Silence supporters, staff members at Capitol Resource Institute and another pro-family organization are called "bigot," "disgusting," "evil spawn," and much more. "If this is the kind of atmosphere we get just for asking kids to stay home, in an email, can you imagine what it is like for kids refusing to stay silent?" said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute.

We are urging this one day walkout because students should be free to support traditional marriage and relationships, without their peers seeing them as bigots. We are urging this one day walkout because teachers should focus on academic subjects, not on changing students' minds about sexual issues. If schools permit the Day of Silence in class, students are best off somewhere else. "The actions of Day of Silence supporters are speaking louder than the silence," England said.

The Day Of Silence Walkout Coalition

Even in the face of last week's widely publicized suicide of 11 year-old Carl Walker-Hoover, who had been tormented by anti-gay bullying, the religious right is shamelessly going forward with their plan to pull students out of school on Friday's Day Of Silence. Here's a portion of the just-issued press release from Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute:
Friday is the Day of Silence, a campaign of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which is often used to make homosexual behavior appear normal on school campuses. "Students should focus on academics in school. They should not be allowed to end their verbal engagement in class for a social agenda," said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute. "We pay California teachers to teach -- by speaking in classrooms -- and teachers should also be expected to fully discharge their duties this coming Friday," she said. "If a school allows teachers to stop teaching, it should not get tax dollars for educating our students on that day." The Day of Silence Walkout Coalition includes organizations such as Concerned Women for America, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays, and more. It reaches out to parents across the nation who do not want their children focusing on sexuality at school.
"Karen England is available for comment on this week's Day of Silence. To reach her, please call (916) 212-5607 or email kengland@capitolresource.org."

Feel free to send Ms. England the below result of what she stands for.

CNN On DADT

Flaunting our sexuality. Dirty homos in the showers. Radical social agenda. CNN interviews the usual haters against repealing DADT as well as Unfriendly Fire author Nathaniel Frank. There's actually no shouting or cross-talking here. The Capitol Resource Institute's logic-impaired Karen England: "I hope our military doesn't make decisions based on polls of the American people." Two minutes later she cites a poll of military personnel in which 58% say they are opposed to repealing DADT. In other words, polls that favor HER position are fine. Moron.
