Nancy Pelosi Booed At Netroots Nation

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was heckled and booed at this weekend's Netroots Nation convention when she said that Edward Snowden broke the law. Via Politico:
As Pelosi was saying the country needs a “balance” between security and privacy, Marc Perkel, a 57-year-old activist from Gilroy, Calif., started shouting at Pelosi during her answer and was escorted out of the room. “It’s not a balance. It’s not constitutional!” he yelled. “No secret laws!”

Others in the room began shouting as well, saying things like “Leave him alone!” or “That’s what a police state looks like right there!” The moderator, Zerlina Maxwell, worked to quiet the crowd by saying audience members needed to submit questions via Twitter rather than shouting them out, but Pelosi said she didn’t mind.

“I welcome the challenges that people pose because I think that those questions must be answered,” Pelosi said. She was further booed when she said Snowden did break the law by leaking the information he revealed. “As far as Snowden: he did violate the law in terms of releasing those documents,” she said. Some of the crowd erupted in boos, with one man screaming, “You suck!”
Netroots Nation is the country's largest annual gathering of progressive bloggers and journalists.

Netroots 2013: San Jose

They made the announcement last night that Netroots Nation 2013 will be held in San Jose, California. Ho hum. Something tells me the JMG meetup is gonna be in San Francisco anyway.

Afternoon View - Recall Car

Wisconsin plates, so maybe they drove all the way to Rhode Island with the sign on top. Doesn't seem very aerodynamic. Seen parked outside the Netroots Nation host hotel this afternoon.

NAACP President Ben Jealous At Netroots

His handler took this photo of us just as I was expressing my admiration and thanks for the NAACP's ardent support of the LGBT movement. It's a pity my eyes are closed, but I think I was a little taken up in the moment.

Presidential Proclamation

A representative from the White House delivered copies of the above LGBT Pride Month proclamation to this morning's Netroots Nation LGBT Caucus attendees. Embiggen to read in full. I've got to find a mailing tube to get this home safely, cuz this baby is getting framed.

At Netroots: Breitbart Is Here

Dead Breitbart sycophant and vile CNN contributor Dana Loesch is wandering around Netroots with crackpot teabagging blogger Jim Hoft, looking for Occupiers and other "fringe" attendees to ridicule on their sites. Loesch just tweeted the above photo in front of the Daily Kos logo. (Netroots began as a Daily Kos event.) Hoft, you may recall, is the lying freak who claimed that the Obama campaign was using Jumbotrons to order his audiences to applaud, when in fact he was citing the closed captioning for the deaf which was noting that the audience had applauded.

Wingnuts Attack Senate Candidate Elizabeth Warren For Attending Netroots

Here's how teabagger site Daily Caller sees it:
Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick and Republican Sen. Scott Brown attended the Friday funeral of a slain Massachusetts police officer, Kevin Ambrose, who died Monday while on duty. There is, of course, a noticeable absence from the list of mourners. Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren apparently couldn’t be bothered. She’s hanging out at the blogger convention Netroots Nation, which features such events as “Beyond Occupy: What Does a New Economic System Look Like?”
Warren has never held elected office and therefore would have no official purpose in attending that funeral. But the teabaggers are so afraid of her unseating Sen. Scott Brown, they'll reach for any nutso reason to attack her.

TONIGHT: JMG Meetup In Providence

Reminder: The JMG meet-up for Providence will be at 10PM tonight at The Stable. We'll likely be in the back patio area where the locals tells us there's a bit more room and where the music isn't so loud. The Stable is easily walkable from the Netroots Nation host hotel (two blocks!) and some of us will be coming from that evening's Obama campaign party at a nearby club. The Stable is reportedly "girl friendly." Looking forward to meeting lots of you there!
