NY Post Praises Evan Wolfson
"In a rarity for any US advocacy group, Freedom to Marry is closing up shop 'simply' because it won. The move is applause-worthy because it’s so rare for any 'public interest' lobby. Most outfits just find some new cause to justify keeping the money rolling in. 'We achieved the goal we set out to do,' said Evan Wolfson, Freedom to Marry’s founder and president, when the Supreme Court ruled last month that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to get married. Instead of becoming 'an organization that flails around and figures out what to do next,' Wolfson will help the group’s 30 or so employees find other 'good-guy causes' to work on. Freedom to Marry has the class to roll the credits once the 'hero' has won. Here’s hoping it starts a trend." - From the editorial board of the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post.

Rupert Murdoch Buys $57M Penthouse
Via the New York Daily News:
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch lost his Upper East Side penthouse in his divorce, but he’s found an even bigger bachelor pad downtown. Murdoch just plunked down $57.25 million to own the top four floors at One Madison Park, the slender, 60-story glass tower on E. 23rd St., reports The News’ real estate editor Matt Chaban. The purchase price for the owner of the down-market tabloid New York Post makes the residence the most expensive property ever below 57th St. Murdoch’s new “quadruplex” sprawls more than 10,000 square feet — that’s 2,000 square feet larger than the triplex at tony 834 Fifth Ave., which now belongs to Deng after the demise of her 14-year union with Murdoch. The Murdoch penthouse has a spiral staircase and wide-open living areas, all wrapped by floor-to-ceiling glass, but beyond that, the space is raw, giving Murdoch control over the final look of his glass tower. The Aussie media mogul’s apartment is actually a combination of a triplex, which originally was on the market for $50 million, and the 57th-floor unit below, which was asking $16.5 million.

New York Post Cover Draws Heat
Rupert Murdoch's New York Post cover is drawing heat from all sides today. Business Insider recaps:
The New York Post has provoked enraged responses on Twitter with its offensive cover about the murder of an Hasidic Jewish landlord which asked "Who didn't want him dead?" Menachem Stark, a 39-year-old father of eight, was shoved into a light-colored Dodge caravan outside his Brooklyn office late Thursday. His charred body was found this weekend on Long Island. The Post — which referred to Stark as a "slain slumlord" — prompted a number of angry Tweets, including one from Yaacov Behrman, who wrote, "I am deeply disturbed by the cover of the New York Post, "who didn't want him dead." How about this young boy?!" Another person tweeted, "It's heart-wrenching that this is leading the @nypost website today. 'Who DIDN'T want him dead?' SHAME ON YOU!" The lead of the Post story said Stark had "so many enemies that investigators say they almost don't know where to start looking." “He’s a Hasidic Jew from Williamsburg, and we think he’s a scammer," the Post quoted one unnamed investigator as saying.A Facebook group titled "Condemn The New York Post" already has 2000 members.

Rupert Murdoch Defends New York Post's Lies About Boston Bombings
RELATED: On Friday a faked letter of apology from the Post was placed in newsstand issues across the city. The letter reads in part:
This week, the New York Post acted recklessly and with flagrant disregard for the principles of good journalism. I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to our readers, to the people of Boston, and to the three men who were mistakenly investigated as suspects.Read the full faked letter here.

Bombing Witchhunts Continue
Days after the New York Post wrongly claimed that 12 people had been killed in Boston's bombing, their front page today wrongly claims that the two men pictured are being sought by the FBI. Deadspin rips the Post to shreds:
On Tuesday, CNN (among others) reported that a suspect had been arrested, before walking that all the way back. Today, the Post wrests back the "what the fuck are you doing?" crown by putting two "potential suspects" on the cover of the newspaper. They are most assuredly innocent. The pair show up in multiple photos of the finish line. They carry large bags. They are dark-skinned. This was enough for internet sleuths to peg them as suspicious. And that was apparently enough for the Post to run with its front-page story today, claiming investigators are circulating photos of the two.RELATED: Yesterday's New York Post front page featured a image that had been photoshopped to make it appear that the victim did not have a grievous leg injury. Other outlets that ran the same photo blurred the injury or placed a black bar over it.
But maybe there was a reason for them to be at the marathon, wearing track jackets and carrying bags: they're runners. The kid in the blue jacket is a middle-distance runner at Revere High School. Last week he ran the two-mile in 11:20. Yesterday he caught wind that his name and social media profiles were being circulated online, and he did what any teenager would do: He panicked. He made his Facebook timeline private, and in one message now no longer visible, he announced he was going to clear his name.

News Corp Kills iPad-Only Paper
Business Insider has the story:
The latest News Corp press release says that The Daily, its standalone daily iPad newspaper, will "cease standalone publication". The newspaper had a high profile launch in February 2011, but had apparently struggled to pay its way — recent reports suggested the losses were looking like $30 million a year, and rumors that Rupert Murdoch would kill the publication have been around since at least early summer.
