Seinfeld Book Prompts $1M Defamation Suit About Insulting Gay People
Via the New York Daily News:
Kenny Kramer - the inspiration for Kramer on "Seinfeld" - has filed a $1 million defamation suit against a former writer on the sitcom for defaming him and his tour business in a new book. The suit says Fred Stoller, 55, smeared Kramer by claiming his tour guides would yell the famous Seinfeld line "Not that there's anything wrong with that!" at gay people while leading tours through Greenwich Village. "It's not funny. It's just nasty. He's worried about this affecting his business," said Kramer's lawyer, Fred Lichtmacher. "He doesn't want to be viewed as a gay basher." He noted his client's tours don't go to the Village - and they actually don't even go below W. 40th Street. Stoller "just completely made that up," Lichtmacher said. Kramer, 70, told the Daily News the "Seinfeld" scribe went out of his way "to make me look like a total idiot."

Brooklyn Cyclones To Host Seinfeld Night
New York Mets minor league franchise Brooklyn Cyclones will host Seinfeld Night on July 5th. The players will wear puffy shirts, there will be an Elaine dance contest, the PA announcer will be a low-talker, and there will be a table for the airing of grievances. The stadium will be renamed Vandelay Industries Park for the night and actual latex salesmen will get in free. The first 2500 fans in the gate get a Keith Hernandez bobblehead. More fun details here.

FLORIDA: Beer Can Festivus Pole Goes On Display In State Capitol Rotunda
Earlier today I posted a clip of the folks at Fox News freaking out about this. Here's the report from the Associated Press:
A Festivus pole made of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans is on display at the Capitol across the rotunda from a Nativity scene. Chaz Stevens of Deerfield Beach put up his 6-foot-tall pole Wednesday, an act that even he described as ridiculous. But Stevens says he opposes religious displays in government buildings and if the depiction of Jesus' birth is allowed, so should his Festivus pole. Festivus is a non-secular holiday created in a 1997 episode of "Seinfeld." Pam Olsen organized the Nativity display. She stopped at the Capitol to see the Festivus pole and told Stevens she welcomes his decision to exercise his right to free speech. She did, however, say a more traditional plain aluminum pole would have been more appropriate rather than Stevens' beer can version. The Festivus pole is located next to a winter solstice message from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. A commenter at Breitbart is furious: "I happen to be a great great granddaughter of Capt Frederick Pabst and he would flip over in his grave if he saw his beer being exploited by a bunch of atheist punks." June 1st: NYC Nametag Day
Very Seinfeldian. From the website:
Ever wanted to connect with the millions of New Yorkers walking past you? Each day brings opportunities to make new friends and share experiences. All too often, we can forget to notice the people around us. Nametag Day aims to break this barrier and strengthen the human element of the New York experience, adding a bit of spontaneity and silliness to people's day.I have a feeling some of the nametags will bear some version of "What da fuck iz YOU lookin' at?"

Happy Festivus!
"The tradition of Festivus begins with the Airing of Grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people! And now, you're gonna hear about it." (Festivus en Espanol.)

The Soup Nazi Returns
The real life Soup Nazi of Seinfeld fame is reopening his original store in Hell's Kitchen today, six years after the last of his several Manhattan locations closed. All the famously stringent rules will be enforced: Have your money ready, step to the left, no unnecessary talking. I used to patronize the location at 42nd and Fifth, where a tiny portion of lobster bisque would set you back $12. And was totally worth it.Labels: Hell's Kitchen, NYC, restaurants, Seinfeld

Morning View - Tom's Diner
Seinfeld hangout Tom's Restaurant is way up at 110th & Broadway, not in the mid-80's, as was implied on the show, as no New Yorker would walk 30 blocks for a diner. I am sitting in the morning at the diner on the corner. Duh, duh, duh dah. Duh, duh, duh dah.Labels: Morning View, Seinfeld
