PETA Slams Back At Palin

From PETA's website:
PETA simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs, and judging by the reaction that we’ve seen to Sarah Palin’s Instagram photo, we’re far from alone in that belief. Palin’s Facebook response shows us that she knows PETA about as well as she knows geography. Yes, we campaign against the Iditarod because when the dogs aren’t being driven—sometimes to death—most live chained or inside cages for their entire lives. And we’re a vegan organization, so we sit on pleather couches, wear stylish vegan kicks, and consider fish friends, not food. (Also, by the way, we just sent a case of vegan caviar to Vladimir Putin—and no, you can’t see his house from yours, Ms. Palin.) We have no reason to believe that the Palin companion animals aren’t ordinarily pampered, and we wish the entire family a peaceful and humane 2015.

PETA: Milk Kills

Clip recap:
Normally when babies are born, their mothers will care for them, protect them, and watch them grow up. But for mother cows used by the dairy industry, their babies are often taken away within minutes and sold into the veal industry. The mother's milk that was meant for her baby will be sold on grocery store shelves. Both mother and baby will eventually end up in the slaughterhouse.

Paul McCartney - Meat Free Monday

Stereogum recaps:
Meat Free Monday is a campaign to convince people who eat meat to skip eating it one day of the week to help reduce their carbon footprint. As any self-respecting Beatles fan knows (or Simpsons fan for that matter), Paul McCartney is a guy who skips eating meat seven days of the week. He once wrote a song titled “Meat Free Monday” to encourage people to take that pledge, and now it’s resurfaced with a new video. The campaign released a new lyric video for the track featuring photos sent in by fans who took the pledge. It was posted this week as global leaders flock to the UN headquarters in New York for the first major discussion on climate change since the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

PETA Offers To Pay Water Bills Of Detroit Families But Only If They Become Vegans

From PETA's website:
With jobs in Detroit disappearing, many residents are struggling. As they’re forced to choose which bills to pay, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department has chosen for them―shutting off water and leaving many people high and dry. The department put the shutoffs on a temporary hiatus, but people’s water bills are mounting. So with the help of a generous PETA member, we have come up with one small way to assist Detroit residents and save animals, too. Thanks to this donor, PETA will be able to pay off the water bills for 10 families who commit to going vegan for one month. We’ll also help them get started by giving each family a basket of healthy vegan foods and recipes. The last thing that people who are struggling need is increased health-care costs. By accepting our offer to go vegan, not only will families be getting an immediate financial boost and helping animals, if they stick with it, they’ll also lower their risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and strokes.

New Site: Vegan Sellout List

Launched yesterday was the Vegan Sellout List, a site which features an interactive map of the United States for finding ex-vegan sellouts near you. Readers are encouraged to upload the names, photos, and home towns of these meat-eating traitors. "Tell us everything you can about this person." The site's domain is registered in China, presumably to protect its owner from lawsuits.

Reasons To Hate PETA, Part 90

After her boyfriend went vegan, he became so sexually virile that he "knocked the bottom out of her." Hence the neck brace and bruises. Yay for vegan-fueled sexual and domestic violence! These people are deranged.

ALBANY: Vegan Billboards Go Up

An "anti-cheese" vegan group is posting billboards.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine says cheese products play a big role in the epidemic of childhood obesity. The group wants the Albany city school district to cut cheese from its lunch menu, which is loaded with the stuff. Dr. Neal Barnard of the Physicians Committee wrote in a letter to school board President Daniel Egan that one in three students in New York are overweight or obese.
I'm having dinner at Go 99 just because.

Quote Of The Day - Ingrid Newkirk

"Wearing a dress made out cuts of dead cows is offensive enough to bring comment, but someone should whisper in her ear that there are more people who are upset by butchery than who are impressed by it—and that means a lot of young people will not be buying her records if she keeps this stuff up. On the other hand, maybe it was fake and she'll talk about that later. If not, what's next: the family cat made into a hat? Meat is the decomposing flesh of a tormented animal who didn't want to die, and after a few hours under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh it is and likely be crawling in maggots—not too attractive, really." - PETA president Ingrid Newkirk.

Would This Be An Ate Crime?

This is how they roll in the strange "anarchist-vegan" world.
An ex-vegan who was hit with chili pepper-laced pies at an anarchist event in San Francisco said Tuesday that her assailants were cowards who should direct their herbivorous rage at the powerful - not at a fellow radical for writing a book denouncing animal-free diets. Lierre Keith, a 45-year-old Arcata resident, was attacked at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the 15th annual Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair while discussing her 2009 book, "The Vegetarian Myth." A 20-year vegan, Keith now argues that the diet is unhealthy and that agriculture is destroying the world. As Keith stood at a lectern at the Hall of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, three people in masks and black hooded sweatshirts ran from backstage, shouted, "Go vegan!" and threw pies in her face. While they fled, some in the audience cheered or handed out leaflets.
How does one hold an anarchist convention?
