One Million Views For Catholic Vote

Poster by Scott Wooledge. His review at Memeographs:
The auteurs at Catholic Vote have created an instant classic Christian cinematic masterpiece to rival Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas. Not since National Organization for Marriage’s “Gathering Storm” of 2008 have we seen delusional hyperbole, paranoia and self-pity lifted to such delirious heights. Like an episode of The Bachelor or a Lindsey Lohan court appearance, Not Alone is both terrifying and impossible to look away from. This important piece of filmmaking will surely inspire countless imitators, but Not Alone is so earnest in its own clueless, privileged insensitivity that parody may be superfluous (see Poe’s Law). Still, I look forward to seeing what influence this motion picture exerts on Stephen Colbert and the creative staff at The Daily Show, Funny or Die and Saturday Night Live.
Catholic Vote is very upset about the reactions.

AdWeek Slams Catholic Vote Clip: Galling And Meant To Marginalize LGBT People

In the comments of the post below this one, JMG reader Sam points us to this takedown of Catholic Vote by AdWeek:
About halfway through this two-and-a-half-minute film from conservative nonprofit the Catholic Vote, its treacly, overlystylized message becomes clear. These Catholics are nervous about revealing their stance on same-sex marriage because they're (spoiler alert!) against it. That stance is nothing new. And everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as it doesn't lead to legislation that discriminates. No, what's galling about the ad is its appropriation of LGBTQ themes to marginalize LGBTQ people. The ad, with a straight face, position Catholics as a persecuted group for not having their message of intolerance (here blatantly recast as its opposite) widely accepted these days. It even plays like a coming-out video for Catholics who are afraid to take the "brave" step of voicing their objection to equality. That's a pretty audacious tactic—disingenuous and disrespectful, to say the least.
The comments there are very active.

A Response To Catholic Vote

A few days ago Catholic Vote went viral with a video which declared that they are no longer afraid to say that they don't like gay people. Here's a response clip.

Catholic Vote: 40 Days Of Marriage Prayer

Posted several days ago by Catholic Vote:
The Supreme Court is deliberating right now whether or not there is a constitutional right to same-sex ‘marriage.’ This ruling could impact children, the family, and the future of America for generations to come. The court is expected to announce its ruling by the last day of June, which is precisely 40 days from tomorrow. In preparation, CV has launched a national prayer campaign starting tomorrow. We’re calling it 40 Days of Prayer for Marriage and it will go from May 22 to June 30.

There are any number of ways to participate in this 40 Days of Prayer for Marriage: Offer specific sacrifices or do something generous, however small, for your spouse and children; offer this up for the cause of marriage (your marriage and family life will benefit too!). Fast on Fridays, which is still the normal practice of the Church — specifically for the cause of marriage. Pray the rosary for marriage, as we recommended last month, or perhaps you could pray nine rosaries during these 40 days — one rosary for each of the nine justices on the Supreme Court. Organize a Holy Hour for marriage in your parish. Simply pray a Hail Mary each day for this special intention.
In a separate Catholic Vote post, former NOM staffer Thomas Peters writes today:
Ireland just voted to redefine marriage (I will comment on this calamity soon). But we Americans have to respond first to what is happening and is about to happen in our own country. Catholics who wish to remain faithful to their baptismal vows and continue to remain Catholic must support marriage as God created it, Christ proclaimed it, and the Church has always defined it. Belief in marriage as the union of one man and one woman is not optional for Catholics. That means, for Catholics, our spiritual lives are in jeopardy if we deny marriage publicly. Which in turn means when powerful individuals, government officials and agents of the law force us to deny marriage “or else”, they are saying our Catholic lives don’t matter.

In Roman times, Christians knew they could not offer incense at the altar of false gods. In Reformation England, Saints Thomas More and John Fisher knew they could not say Henry VIII was validly married to Anne Boleyn. In both of these historical examples, elected officials cared more about enforcing the orthodoxy of the state than the lives of the Catholics under their thumb. So I think we need to start asking those in power who now claim it is illegitimate for Catholics to adhere to our beliefs about marriage, do they think Catholic lives matter?

Thomas Peters Has The Florist Sadz

Barronelle Stutzman is actually many years from being an octogenarian, but that doesn't work so well in the right's "little old lady" scenario.

Haters Have The Notorious RBG Sadz

The National Review is ever so upset about today's Bloomberg interview with Ruth Bader Ginsburg:  "Unbelievable. How can Ginsburg possibly think that it’s proper judicial conduct for her to speak out on this issue while the marriage case is pending before the Court? If she had any sense of her duty to maintain both the appearance and the reality of impartiality, she would recognize that she is now obligated to recuse herself from the case. But of course she won’t."

Thomas Peters: Younger Priests Will Help Make The Church More Repressive

"Here’s a dynamic I’ve seen in parish after parish. The liberal monsignor is the pastor. He is in his 60s. His homilies and pastoral priorities are cryogenically frozen and preserved from the 1970′s. He never preaches against sin. The assistant priest (i.e. parochial vicar) is probably in his 30s, maybe late 20s. This under-35 priest loves St. John Paul II. He loves Latin in the Mass. He may have fallen away from the church in college, but he had a powerful conversion. He talks about sin and the beauty of confession in his homilies. He quietly tries to introduce Eucharistic adoration. Does this sound like a parish you know of, maybe even your own? It’s happening all across America. And it’s going to change the face of the church in this country." - Thomas Peters, writing for Catholic Voice.

Thomas Peters Has The Vatican Sadz

"We need to remember and repeat that the relatio is only a working document and carries no authority. In fact, this entire extraordinary synod serves a purely advisory role in preparation for the ordinary synod next fall. What this debate has already done is create a space for all of us to reflect on the church’s teaching and to quietly, firmly and persistently proclaim the truth. This is only the first working document in a year-long process leading into next year’s ordinary synod. This is a marathon, not a sprint. So it’s time to get training for the long road ahead. So read and share good articles that provide clarity and explain the church’s teaching well. Respond to false accusations against the church and her teaching. And, perhaps most of all, refuse to fall into despair when it seems as though the truth is being lost in a sea of falsehood. The truth only vanishes if truth-tellers cease speaking. So keep speaking — for even a still, small voice can overcome an earthquake if it speaks the truth." - Former NOM staffer Thomas Peters, who is very upset about yesterday's news that the Vatican is rethinking its approach to homosexuality.

Thomas Peters: Excommunicate Pelosi

"I can think of about a thousand things that Nancy Pelosi and Archbishop Cordileone should have a chat about. Her lecturing her archbishop on the church’s teaching ain’t one of them. The gall of this woman is unbelievable. And what she and dozens of politicians are doing by publicly demanding that the archbishop withdraw from the event should anger us. Because if the church is our family, we need to respond when our family is under attack. If words can’t reach Pelosi, maybe excommunication would. Such a dramatic act would not only serve as the necessary wake-up call to Pelosi, it would also help protect the rest of us. If politicians think they can lecture an archbishop about what he should and shouldn’t do, you can bet they also believe they can use the power of their office to dictate what you can and can’t do. There is no neutral ground in the marriage fight. That is, there is no neutral ground and no compromise until we stand up for our beliefs as strongly as the Nancy Pelosi’s of this world are fighting for their view. They are not going to stop with forcing you to bake their cakes. They’re going to make you eat it, too." - Former NOM communications director Thomas Peters, writing for Catholic Voice.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Last year Edward Peters (Thomas' father), who is the United States legal advisor to the Vatican, declared that marriage equality supporters, gay or straight, are not entitled to receive Holy Communion.  In June 2011, Edwards Peters said that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is a Catholic, should be turned away from Communion due to the passage of same-sex marriage. The elder Peters has also called for excommunicating Catholic politicians that support same-sex marriage.

HYPOCRISY ALERT: Thomas Peters Is Very Upset About "Secret" Donors

Former NOM communications director Thomas Peters is very upset that the main donor to an LGBT-friendly Catholic group has been "exposed" as Quark founder Tim Gill. And by "exposed," Peters means "listed on federally required forms."
I’ve been sounding the alarm about Catholics United since 2008. This is the group that, for example, attempted to silence and intimidate priests and bishops from preaching from the pulpit, opposed pro-life efforts, staged a demonstration when Congressman Paul Ryan went to speak at Georgetown, and went after the Knights of Colombus for supporting marriage at the ballot box. -- all while knowingly taking money from a notorious gay activist! This isn’t the first time Tim Gill has done this. I published an exposé in 2011 that Gill’s foundation had donated almost $100,000 to New Ways Ministry (I guess 100 grand is the going rate for buying a fake Catholic mouthpiece these days). Over the years, Gill has donated tens of millions of dollars to push gay marriage, often through deceitful tactics such as these. It’s fair to assume that Catholics United knew about Gill’s history when they accepted his money.
Deceitful tactics? Hidden donors? Stop it, Tommy, my sides!
