Rihanna - Bitch Better Have My Money

Stereogum recaps:
Take a deep breath and savor the moment. We’re going to have a very short time before the parents’ groups of the world start loudly freaking the fuck out over Rihanna’s new video for “Bitch Better Have My Money,” so we need to appreciate every moment that that isn’t happening. Rihanna shared a preview of the video a few days ago, promising nudity and language and violence. She wasn’t kidding. The clip features Rihanna and a couple of friends kidnapping a rich lady and holding her for ransom, and it ends with a naked Rihanna, covered in blood, smoking weed while sitting in a trunk full of cash.

INDIANA: Rihanna Slams RFRA Battle To NCAA Concert Crowd, "Fuck That Shit"

Pop superstar Rihanna performed at the NCAA March Madness Music Fest in Indianapolis this weekend where she denounced the RFRA battle. Via Yahoo Music:
Rihanna also used her headlining performance to slam Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Although the bill was amended to make it less discriminatory toward the LGBT community, Rihanna still unloaded on the RFRA in an expletive-laden tirade prior to performing “Live Your Life.” "Who’s feeling these new bullshit laws that they’re trying to pass over here? I say fuck that shit," Rihanna told the crowd, inciting chants of "Fuck that shit." "We’re just living our motherfucking lives. Indiana!" Although Rihanna’s March Madness performance was live-streamed, her Indiana comments were heavily censored upon broadcast.
Also slamming RFRA at the concert was Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, who wore a "Protect LGBT Hoosiers" t-shirt and called for donations to Freedom Indiana. Bleachers is a spin-off project of Antonoff's band Fun, which took the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2013. Fun also won the 2013 Grammy for Song Of The Year with We Are Young.

Swag Tuesday

Courtesy of the Karpel Group, this week's Swag Tuesday prize is Unapologetic, the new album by Rihanna which goes on sale worldwide on November 19th. Unapologetic is available for pre-ordering today on iTunes. From MTV's review:
Yes, Unapologetic is certainly the most aptly titled album in recent memory. From the rattling electro whomp of tracks like "Fresh Out the Runway" and "Numb" (a stony, snake-charmer jam featuring a killer contribution from Eminem) to the "I choose to be happy" sentiments of first single "Diamonds," Rihanna does things her way, defiantly so. "Jump" and "Right Now" embrace the hard-revving rave-ups and knotty bass lines of dubstep with mixed results (the former, on which she bites lines from Ginuwine's "Pony," is particularly great, while the latter could do with a little less David Guetta); "No Love Allowed" is a lilting, island-tinged tune that recalls Desmond Dekker's "Israelites"; and the handful of ballads — "Stay," "Get It Over With," "Love Without Tragedy," to name a few — pile on the piano with aplomb. Shoot, she even decided to name a track "Loveeeeeee Song," mostly because Jay-Z told her to. But the most Unapologetic moment is unquestionably "Nobodies Business," her duet with Brown. It will almost certainly be the focal point of every review of the album, and justifiably so.
We have three copies of Unapologetic to give away. Enter to win by commenting on this post. Only enter once and please remember to leave an email address you check frequently. Entries close at midnight on Thursday, west coast time. Publicists: If you'd like to take part in Swag Tuesday on JMG, please email me.

Top Hit Songs Of 2011

By weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, here are the longest-running chart toppers of the year. This year saw an unusual number of long-lasting #1 singles, hence a fewer number of songs reached the top overall.

Seven Weeks: Adele - Rolling In The Deep
Six Weeks: LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
Six Weeks: Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Five Weeks: Katy Perry/Kayne West - E.T.
Five Weeks: Rihanna/Calvin Harris - We Found Love
Five Weeks: Adele - Someone Like You
Four Weeks: Maroon 5/Christina - Moves Like Jagger
Three Weeks: Bruno Mars - Grenade
Two Weeks: Katy Perry - Firework*
Two Weeks: Katy Perry - Last Friday Night

The above ten tracks rode the top for a collective 45 weeks of the calendar year. Rihanna's We Found Love is in its fifth week at this writing, but is out of contention for single of the year as the Billboard chart year officially ended on the last week of November. That leaves the 2011 championship slot safely to Adele's Rolling In The Deep. Of slight interest, Bruno Mar's Grenade went to number one on three non-consecutive weeks. Only a handful singles have ever done that.

Keep in mind that since the advent of Soundscan, Billboard tabulates the year-end charts strictly by sales/airplay and no longer do weekly chart positions play into it. However the weekly chart results continue to be a fairly accurate predictor of the annual rankings. Releases whose popularity straddles two chart years (i.e. Firework, We Found Love) tend to get screwed on the annual list.

*Firework was also #1 for the last two weeks of 2010.

Ten With Ten Or More

Rihanna has just her scored eleventh pop chart topper, prompting an update in Billboard's list of acts with ten or more #1 pop singles.

1. Beatles - 20
2. Mariah Carey - 18
3. Elvis Presley- 17
4. Michael Jackson - 13
5. Madonna - 12
6. The Supremes - 12
7. Whitney Houston - 11
8. Rihanna - 11
9. Janet Jackson - 10
10. Stevie Wonder - 10

NOTE: Paul McCartney has nine additional #1 singles as a member of Wings and as a part of duets with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Similarly, Diana Ross had six number one pop singles as a solo act.

ALSO NOTE: Mariah Carey's initial string of consecutive #1 singles is highly questioned by some, as at the time she was romantically involved with Sony president Tommy Mottola, who dumped millions of Carey's singles into the retail market at hugely discounted prices. Those singles often sold for 99 cents at retail when other releases were selling for three to four times that much.

Quote Of The Day - Tim Winter

"I cannot imagine what would possibly lead the ABC television network to air a profanity-laced, S&M sex show on primetime broadcast television. The overtly sexualized performance by Rihanna and Britney Spears was no accident or mishap, but a deliberate effort to target teens with images and lyrics that that glamorize whips, chains and other sexual fetishes." - Parents Television Council head Tim Winter, who's really upset that Britney and Rihanna kissed during their performance on the Billboard Awards. Lesbianism, the OTHER sexual fetish!

Tweet Of The Day - Chris Brown

Convicted domestic abuser and pop star Chris Brown took to Twitter today for some gay-baiting of a rival rapper, who is responding in kind. Brown follows up with: "I'm not homophobic! He's just disrespectful!!!" Ho hum, nothing to see her, really, although you can bet this exchange makes TMZ etc. We sure didn't expect to see #homothug as a trending topic.

Rihanna's Dollar Store

A music industry friend of JMG tips us that Rihanna is selling her complete new album, Rated R, on Amazon for only $3.99. He points out that if you apply Amazon's $3.00 off coupon promotion, which runs until November 30th, you get the full album for 99 cents. Something tells me that a certain music industry friend of JMG is working really hard to make sure a certain album debuts at #1 next week. Reminds me of Mariah Carey's famous debut streak of six consecutive #1 singles, which was achieved with 99 cents cassingles and three-for-one sales to retailers. But a deal's a deal. Go for it if you dig Rihanna.
