DALLAS: Airport Bystanders Take Down Drunk Redneck Homophobe After Verbal & Physical Assault On (Possibly) Gay Man

This went down at the Dallas airport. Via Raw Story:
The video is dated Thursday, October 23, and shows an unnamed angry man bellowing and threatening another passenger who is wearing a jacket and a pink shirt. A tall man in a black cowboy hat approaches and asks the angry man what he’s upset about. “Queers!” the man shouted. “That’s what I’m upset about. This faggot right here.” After a tense exchange, the angry man kicks the man in the pink shirt, then slaps at him and grabs his hair. A number of people rush to intervene as the man is tacked and put on the floor. The man in the cowboy hat can be heard saying loudly, “No way! No way, you motherfucker. You ain’t doin’ that fucking shit, motherfucker.”
Handcuffed redneck: "I punched him square in the mouth in the fuckin' mouth is what I did. Because this is AMERICA. When I get up I'm gonna beat the shit out of him."

NEW YORK: Anti-Gay NYC Councilman Fernando Cabrera Loses State Senate Bid

New York City Councilman Fernando Cabrera, who last week earned widespread condemnation for praising Uganda's brutally anti-gay regime, yesterday lost his Democratic primary bid for the state Senate. Retaining his seat is Sen. Gustavo Rivera, who took 60% of the vote. Gay City News recaps Cabrera's downfall:
At a time when that government was trying to enact a harshly anti-gay law –– sidetracked at least for the moment by a court ruling –– that includes jail time even for those who fail to report knowledge of homosexual conduct, Cabrera decried the rise of “cultural shifters going after our young.” Those “cultural shifters” –– which he compared to Communists, the Nazi regime, and the North Korean government –– were influential enough in the US, he asserted contrary to fact, that the American government is trying to punish Uganda for not allowing gay marriage. “We are in the middle of a war,” Cabrera declared from Uganda. “A war for our children.” Always known for harshly conservative views on social issues –– he was active in the movement to block marriage equality in New York, has ties to the extremist Family Research Council, and is anti-choice –– Cabrera nonetheless sparked fresh outrage when the Uganda video emerged. The Empire State Pride Agenda, LGBT Democratic clubs, and the six gay and lesbian members of the Council urged his prominent supporters –– unsuccessfully in the case of Harlem Congressman Charlie Rangel and Public Advocate Letitia James –– to withdraw their endorsements.
Cabrera will remain a New York City Councilman.

VIRGINIA: Anti-Gay Crackpot Bob Marshall To Announce Bid For U.S. House

Viciously anti-gay Virginia GOP Del. Bob Marshall will this week announce his candidacy for the U.S. House.
During his many years in the House of delegates, prior to and since redistricting, Bob has represented one-third of the current 10th district so he is very familiar with the people and the issues in the district. Since first running for office in 1991 Marshall has won thirteen elections—most by very large margins, up to 85%—despite being out spent in every contest. Marshall is a well-known social and fiscal conservative, always vigorously opposing tax increases. He is also the author of Virgina’s Marriage Amendment, the Marshall-Newman Amendment, which was ratified by Virginia voters in 2006 with 57% of the vote.
Marshall has the backing of Eugene Delgaudio. Shocking. (Tipped by JMG reader Blair)

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Last month Marshall filed an amendment that would grant Virginia state legislators the right to claiming standing in marriage lawsuits. In September 2013, Marshall petitioned the US Supreme Court to overturn Virginia's legalization of sodomy. In May 2012, Marshall attempted to block the appointment of an openly gay state judge because the nominee has "an illegal husband." In 2011 Del. Bob Marshall claimed it is a felony for a state office to fly the rainbow flag. Marshall has also called on Virginia to issue its own currency, and has claimed that God punishes women who have abortions by giving them deformed children. After the DADT repeal bill passed, Marshall tried to have gays banned from the Virginia National Guard.

Dan Savage On Ireland's Panti Bliss

"Consider this post a thank you note to shitty bigot [Irish Times columnist] John Waters and shitty bigot Breda O’Brien and all the shitty bigots at the Iona Institute. Thank you for bringing Panti Bliss to our attention. Thanks to your stupidity and Rory 'Panti Bliss' O'Neill's eloquence, Panti has gained an international following. And if you shitty motherfuckers are dumb enough to sue Panti, know this: she not only has thousands of supporters in Ireland, she has thousands of new supporters all over the world. Myself included. And we will spread the word and we will raise money and we will call you shitty fucking homophobes without a moment's hesitation. Because you're a bunch of shitty fucking homophobes. So congrats, you dumb fucking haters. You made that Irish drag queen an international superstar—and if you are stupid enough to come after her, you've made her an international cause célèbre." - Dan Savage.  Read my first post about the controversy here. And as Dan suggests, watch Panti's video if you missed it the first time. And even if you didn't miss it, watch it again.

Anti-Gay Wingnut Screecher Dana Loesch Cohosted Today's Episode Of The View

You might recall that in 2012 Loesch literally screamed at a caller to her radio show, saying that people who support marriage equality "hate Jesus Christ." Which immediately earned Loesch a starring role at GOProud's Homocon 2012 party. The Tea Party has since positioned Loesch as "the new Ann Coulter."

IRELAND: Drag Queen Slams Homophobia From Stage Of National Theater

First the backstory:
RTÉ [Raidió Teilifís Éireann] removed the Saturday Night Show from its online player yesterday over legal concerns regarding an interview with Rory O’Neill aka Panti. Speaking on Twitter yesterday, the drag performer revealed that his “appearance on the Sat Night Show has been taken off the RTÉ Player because someone I mentioned is upset…Legally upset.” During the interview, O’Neill spoke about homophobia in Ireland, naming a number of newspaper columnists during the discussion. “The only place that you see it’s OK to be really horrible and mean about gays is on the internet in the comments and people who make a living writing opinion pieces for newspapers,” he said.
And then this happened.
Last night, the Brendan O’Connor-hosted Saturday Night Show held a debate on homophobia but that didn’t prevent today’s protest, organised by LGBT Noise and attended by other groups and individuals who support equal rights for gay people, from going ahead. It also didn’t prevent O’Neill – in full regalia as alter-ego Panti Bliss – from making an oration last night at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin on how it feels to be subject to prejudice because of one’s sexuality on a daily basis. The speech came after a performance of James Plunkett’s 1913 Lockout drama The Risen People in the national theatre.
Watch Panti's speech. Watch the whole thing. Amazing.

Linda Harvey: Everybody Is Heterosexual

"Remember that Nobel Prize winner, the scientist who discovered the 'gay' gene? I’m having trouble coming up with the name. It’s because there is no such researcher, since nothing like a 'gay gene' has been found. But try to tell that to the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, and the various self-important 'gay' bloggers. With claws and teeth exposed, the monster purveyors of 'tolerance' try to come off as noble moralists, but confront them with the truth and the artifice falls. Their reactions are violent for a simple reason: fear. They wonder if they might actually be heterosexuals after all. New humans are an impossibility for two men or two women, even if the Supreme Court declares them 'married.' No new life will ever result from these dead-end unions. At least one other person will always have to be involved to produce children. The reality is, no one is a homosexual and everyone is a heterosexual. And those who have developed, fantasized and nurtured those 'gay' feelings really don’t like reality. It makes them want to attack. Or it makes them start vicious organizations like GLAAD, to make the lies seem real and respectable. It makes them stupid enough to try to take on the Russians. All I can say is, good luck with that." - Child torture advocate Linda Harvey, writing for World Net Daily.

Michelangelo Signorile Vs HRC

"It's not really a reversal [to reinstate Phil Robertson]. We think it's actually a positive outcome, and we want to thank A&E for their attentiveness and collaboration over the course of the last few weeks. We've received assurances also that the Robertson family is now open to working with African-American and (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people to address the real harm that such anti-gay and racist comments can cause. That's been our 'ask' since Phil's comments ran in GQ, and while it's a positive step, it certainly cannot and should not be the last one." - HRC vice president Fred Sainz, speaking to CNN.

A&E Caves On Phil Robertson

More from the Denver Post:
In a statement Friday, A&E said it decided to bring Robertson back after discussions with the Robertson family and "numerous advocacy groups." The channel had put Robertson on what it called "hiatus" following his comments in a magazine article about how the Bible informs his view of gays. His comments were slammed by groups including GLAAD, the gay media watch organization. But A&E's decision drew a backlash from those who said they supported Robertson's comments and others who defended him on the basis of freedom of speech.
Here is A&E's full statement:
As a global media content company, A+E Networks' core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals. That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson.

While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.

But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about. So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio. In addition, an A&E source says the family and the network are going to work together to promote tolerance moving forward.

Frothy Mix: Phil Robertson Went Too Far

Even Rick Santorum says Phil Robertson was out of line. Not that he actually disagrees, mind you.
As conservatives line up to defend Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson’s right to condemn homosexual sex over the last couple of days, one usual suspect missing from the mix was former senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who has been criticized for making similar statements in the past. When Santorum weighed in on Greta Van Susteren’s Fox show Friday evening, he spent plenty of time defending Robertson, but also tried to distance himself from the “crude and coarse” language. “Look, I wouldn’t have certainly said it the way he said it, that’s for darn sure,” Santorum remarked, without saying he disagrees with the sentiment behind Robertson’s statements.
UPDATE: The clip has been pulled.

Tony Perkins Defends Phil Robertson

"A&E's suspension of Phil Robertson shows Hollywood wants to avoid reality. The reality is that the Robertson family are Bible-believing Christians who don't cherry pick what the Bible teaches. Phil Robertson has been targeted simply because he expressed his religious beliefs but there is a clear double standard that is being applied. Nothing was done when homosexual activist Dan Savage screamed profanities at Christian high school students and called them 'pansy-(expletive deleted).' However, when Christians simply say homosexuality is wrong and they don't agree with it, there are demands that they be fired and silenced. It is time for all Americans to take a stand against the cultural elites who want to destroy the livelihood of people and remove God and His truth from every aspect of public life." - KKK-affiliated hate group leader Tony Perkins, in a statement published to the blog the Family Research Council.

Ted Cruz Defends Phil Robertson

"The reason that so many Americans love Duck Dynasty is because it represents the America usually ignored or mocked by liberal elites: a family that loves and cares for each other, believes in God, and speaks openly about their faith. If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson. Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job. In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him--but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree. And, as PC enforcers often forget, tolerance is a two-way street." - Ted Cruz, writing on his Facebook page.

Quote Of The Day - John Nolte

"Make no mistake about the anti-Christian leftists in Hollywood, the mainstream media, and GLAAD; the goal here is to put on a bitter Show Trial until A&E caves even further and yanks 'Duck Dynasty' off the air. The problem for A&E and the political left, though, is that in today's world, the boys of 'Duck Dynasty' hold all the cards. What the Left is going to do over the next few weeks is launch a McCarthyistic campaign to toxify 'Duck Dynasty' right out of Hollywood. The political left and the media already hated the show for daring to be proudly Southern, proudly Christian, and a monstrous hit; so the bonus of toxifying Christianity as de facto bigotry while killing the show is seen as something of two-fer among this crowd. But whether this anti-Christian jihad is successful or not, it can only backfire." - John Nolte, writing for Breitbart.

CNN's Don Lemon Defends Phil Robertson

Via Josh Feldman:
GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz denounced Robertson’s remarks and said it’s offensive for him to profess to speak on behalf of all Christians. Morgan found the homosexuality comments, as well as comments that black people were “happy” in pre-civil rights Louisiana, to be “pretty outrageous on any level.” Lemon agreed, but was less hesitant than Morgan to call for Robertson’s head, saying free speech exists for a reason. He said, “It’s offensive to me… but the marketplace should decide.” Lemon argued that it’s always best to “err on the side of free speech” and said he shouldn’t be fired.
