Logo Pulls Episode Of RuPaul's Drag Race After "She-Male" Complaints By Activists

Logo today announced that it has pulled an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race after transgender activists complained about a skit in which contestants were asked to view photos and declare whether the images were of "females or she-males." The issue has been a hot topic on some activist sites since the show first aired. From Logo's statement:
We wanted to thank the community for sharing their concerns around a recent segment and the use of the term 'she-mail' on Drag Race. Logo has pulled the episode from all of our platforms and that challenge will not appear again. Furthermore, we are removing the 'You've got she-mail' intro from new episodes of the series. We did not intend to cause any offense, but in retrospect we realize that it was insensitive. We sincerely apologize.
"She-male" is widely used in porn and is considered among the most pejorative anti-trans expressions by many activists. Two years ago a similar flap erupted over the word "tranny" and RuPaul commented on the issue in an interview with Michelangelo Signorile:
"In the ACT UP age we called ourselves queers because we earned the right, we took the word back. But in reality, once you go even deeper, you know, you have to come from intent. And black folks call themselves the n-word all the time. It's because the intent is coming from a place of love. If the intent is coming from a place of hatred, that's different. But you can't legislate intent. You can't -- there's no way to do it. So, the truth is, you have to fix that individually on a one by one basis. If somebody calls you a green martian, would you be offended by it? No, you wouldn't be. Why? Because you know you're not a green martian. But if you're offended by someone calling you a "tranny," it was only because you believe you are a "tranny!" [laughter.] So then, the solution is: Change your mind about yourself being a "tranny."

HomoQuotable - RΞICHΞN™

"As much as I will miss the illustrious and fabulous life of an 'A-list reality star,' being public, being subject to the small but progressive, loud and proud, 'gay hate and take down other gays' judgment machine, and being the target of gossip from the flawless corps of amazingly accomplished, secure, sassy, role model bloggers — and don't forget the very brave commenters on those blog stories; all winners — of the gay media hate-o-sphere... the dignity department of my soul tells me that it's time for a new direction. I will, of course, also miss having the few worst moments of my life put on screen each week, with all 900 recorded hours of my best, positive, happy, benevolent, successful, charitable, fun, and loving moments vanishing, hidden as if they didn't exist, and swiftly deleted from any sort of public view whatsoever." - A-List: New York reality star Reichen Lehmkuhl, speaking to Gay.net.

Email Of The Day

"Hello: My name is [REDACTED] and I am an intern at Andrew Sullivan Management. We represent James Doyle from Logo's hit series, The A-List Dallas. We would love to see if we could schedule an interview for James to be featured on Joe My God. I look forward to hearing from you."

Andrew Sullivan Management (I had to ask) is owned by a different Andrew Sullivan than the one we know here, although the folks there "are all fans!" But clearly they're not JMG fans too or they'd know how I feel about The A-List.

More Questions About Taylor Garrett

Over at Gay City News, Duncan Osborne examines a curious aspect of the alleged assault on GOProud's Taylor Garrett, who claims he was beaten because he's a conservative Christian who's friendly with Ann Coulter.
According to Dallas Police Department reports, officers were called to 2800 Knight Street in Dallas, where the assault happened, at roughly 10:20 pm. Garrett was attending a birthday party at 3000 Knight Street and left the party to get a gift he left in the car. It was then that he came upon the man. The man punched him once in the face and the punch knocked him to the ground, Garrett said. Garrett’s nose was bleeding and his left ear struck the curb, which also caused a cut and bleeding. The police report notes that “Comp refused PES to the location.” The police department press office said that “comp” stands for complainant and “PES” stands for Physical Evidence Section, or the department’s crime scene unit. It is not uncommon for complainants in minor crimes to refuse crime scene services because they may not want to wait for detectives or they may not want to clean up after them. In Garrett’s case, however, it could be perceived differently.
Help! The leftist gay Gestapo assaulted me! No, don't take fingerprints. Don't collect evidence. And no photos, please. This is a job for Daily Caller, not the police.

HomoQuotable - Robert Turner

"Violence against any innocent person is abhorrent. It’s doubly sickening when bloggers such as Joe Jervis of Joe.My.God suggest, before any investigation is completed, suggest that Garrett is faking the hate crime simply because he is a Republican. Should Mr. Garrett be guilty of filing a false statement or any other crime, he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But we have as yet no evidence suggesting that he vandalized his own car and attacked himself for pure media attention. The question of who is guilty, an as-yet uncaught assailant or Mr. Garrett, is still open. But Mr. Jervis is unquestionably guilty of bad faith. This type of double standard needs to end!" - Log Cabin DC president Robert Turner.

A couple of things will be obvious to JMG regulars: 1) I don't suspect Garrett because he's a Republican. I suspect him because he's a self-aggrandizing reality show douchebag with a history of highly questionable claims. 2) I'm supposed to have good faith in homocons? SRSLY? Oh, my sides. Stop. No, really. STOP.

KapoQuotable - Jimmy LaSalvia

"The gay left is the most hateful, intolerant, disgusting group of people I’ve ever come across in my lifetime, and everything we do is criticized by them. They hate gay conservatives more than anything in the world, and I don’t know why. - GOProud president Jimmy LaSalvia, talking to the Dallas Voice.

LaSalvia goes on to express outrage that anybody would suspect that either he or GOProud member Taylor Garrett had staged the hate crimes both allegedly suffered. Garrett claimed to have had a rock thrown though his window during the launch week of his Logo reality series A-List: Dallas. LaSalvia claimed to have scared off a group of black teenaged would-be gay-bashers by pretending to have a gun. He turned that alleged incident into a week-long round of media appearances to promote GOProud's positions on gun rights.

Police Report Filed By Logo Cast Member

A-List: Dallas cast member Taylor Garrett apparently called the Dallas police today to report the alleged gay-on-gay crime that has had the gay blogosphere buzzing since he first tweeted then deleted his claim four days ago. Dallas police logged the call under category 31, "criminal mischief." It's not yet known if any physical investigation will be made. Garrett's show debuted tonight on Logo.

Logo Stands By Hate Crime Claim

Today Logo's official blog unquestioningly posted GOProud member Taylor Garrett's claim that an angry gay leftist hurled a rock through his window because he had lunch with Ann Coulter for an upcoming episode of A-List:Dallas. Logo and the show's producers have refused to comment on widening disbelief that the incident actually happened.

We all know that reality show producers will often seed the internet with "outrageous" teasers before a show debuts, but I don't think we've ever seen someone falsely claim to be a victim of gay-on-gay hate crime. Logo's PR team must be doing cartwheels. In the meantime, the rest of are standing by to see any kind of police report.

What's The Story, Logo?

Yesterday Logo executive producer John Hill tweeted congratulations to A-List: Dallas cast member Taylor Garrett for "making headlines" with his gay-on-gay hate crime claim. Embedded in his tweet was the link to my second post on the alleged incident. When I questioned Hill as to whether he'd played a role in the stunt, his tweet to Garrett was instantly deleted.

Neither Hill nor Logo have yet responded to my questions. I understand all too well that gay people are not above the depths of scumbaggery typically associated with producing reality television, but a false hate crime claim is truly beyond the pale. At the very least, Logo and the show's producers should address what some are (hopefully wrongly) thinking.

HuffPo Picks Up GOProud's Latest Drama

And it appears that the commenters there are actually buying this cockamamie fakery, which has not appeared in any Dallas police reports. Is this what we can expect from HuffPo's new Gay Voices venture?

UPDATE: Garrett has now deleted his claims about the rock through his window. Yup.UPDATE II: Huffington Post is now retracting their unquestioning initial story.
Update and note from the editor at 7:32pm: Garrett has since deleted his claim from his Twitter feed. HuffPost Gay Voices never intended to endorse Garrett's claim, but rather draw attention to the larger issues surrounding the incident. Publicity stunt or not, we also wanted to allow readers to weigh in on what supposedly took place as well as Ann Coulter's upcoming appearance on "The A-List: Dallas" and involvement with the queer "community" in general. Correction: A previous version of this article stated Coulter wanted to "repeal" DADT, however, she in fact wants to see it reinstated.

Today In Transparent Publicity Stunts

Taylor Garrett, cast member of The A-List: Dallas, is claiming that radical leftist homofascists hurled the above rock and note through his window because of his upcoming episode with Ann Coulter and GOProud's Jimmy LaSalvia. We'll stand by for the police investigation. Checks watch. Yeah. Hey Taylor, you're totally biting on Eugene Delgaudio's schtick.
