IOWA: Man Tries To Marry Lawnmower

"Congressman Steve King (R - Iowa) said last week that the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage meant you could marry your lawnmower. So I decided to test his theory and see if I could, in fact, wed my lawnmower in Iowa."

Get The Weed Whacker

"I had a strong, Christian lawyer tell me yesterday that, under this decision that he has read, what it brings about is: It only requires one human being in this relationship—that you could marry your your lawnmower with this decision. I think he's right." - Rep. Steve King.

Rep. Jared Polis Intros House Bill To Stop Rep. Steve King From Introducing Bills

From the official site of openly gay Rep. Jared Polis:
On the heels of Rep. Steve King’s outrageous announcement Wednesday of his “Restrain the Judges on Marriage Act,” Rep. Jared Polis (CO-02) today proposed the “Restrain Steve King from Legislating Act.” The bill would prevent Steve King from abusing taxpayer dollars by substituting the judgments of the nation’s duly serving judicial branch of government with his own beliefs.

“For too long, Steve King has overstepped his constitutionally nonexistent judicial authority,” Polis said. “Mr. King has perverted the Constitution to create rights to things such as discrimination, bullying, and disparate treatment. These efforts to enshrine these appalling values as constitutional rights were not envisioned by the voters, or by King’s colleagues who must currently try to restrain his attempts to single-handedly rewrite the nation’s founding principles on a bill-by-bill basis.

“I urge the House to bring this bill to the floor. If passed, my bill would preserve the right of millions of voters in all 50 states who would prefer that Steve King refrain from legislating a role for himself in their marriage decisions.”

Rep. Steve King Intros Bill To Strip Federal Courts Of Powers Over Marriage

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has introduced a bill that would strip federals courts of the power to rule on marriage. His bill is titled the Restrain the Judges on Marriage Act of 2015. Via The Hill:
“For too long, federal courts have overstepped their constitutionally limited duty to interpret the Constitution.” King said in a news release. “Rather, federal courts have perverted the Constitution to make law and create constitutional rights to things such as privacy, birth control, and abortion. These Unenumerated, so-called constitutionally-protected rights were not envisioned by our Founding Fathers.” King’s bill strips way Article III of the Constitution, which gives federal courts the jurisdiction to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, any type of marriage. The bill also prohibits federal funds from being used for any litigation in, or enforcement of any order or judgment by, any federal court.
Last year King declared that in 2000 years, no gay person has ever gone to heaven. The next day he said that leftists had "fabricated" the remark and that he stands by having said it. Yup.

GOP Leaders Appear In Janet Porter Documentary: Gays Want The Total Criminalization Of Christianity

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
Today, Faith 2 Action's Janet Porter sent out an email to activists excitedly announcing that she is finishing up editing a new anti-gay documentary that she intends to release at the National Religious Broadcaster's Convention in Nashville at the end of this month. Among the participants are Rep. Steve King, Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Sen. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, James Dobson, Mat Staver, Phyllis Schlafly, Scott Lively, Alveda King, Brian Camenker, Frank Pavone, Robert Knight, John Stemberger, and, of course, Porter herself, who can been seen walking around in the woods with a lantern, warning that gay activists are seeking to turn Christians into criminals.
You'll see another familiar face in the trailer. Hit this RWW post for a roundup of many insane claims made by Janet Porter.

GOP Rep. Steve King: In 2000 Years No Gay Person Has Ever Gone To Heaven

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is very sure that no gay person has gotten past heaven's velvet ropes since Doorman Jesus got the gig.
“I would say that what was a sin 2,000 years ago is a sin today, and we need to stick to that principle,” King said in an interview with The Jefferson Herald. The report from the bishops — which at the time of the interview King said he had “picked up little pieces in the news” about — is not a final guiding document, and is expected to generate animated debate in the church worldwide. “I owe it to Pope Francis to read it carefully and read it with precision before I pass judgment on it,” King said. “I would just say that in fact to pass judgment on his document seems a bit presumptuous as I hear myself say that.”

King declined to say whether he thought divorce or cohabitation are sins. “I think that I’ll not comment on that part,” King said.
“I’ll just say that what was a sin 2,000 years ago is a sin today, and people that were condemned to hell 2,000 years ago, I don’t expect to meet them should I make it to heaven. So let’s stick with that principle.” When pressed on the people he believed are included in the “condemned” category, King said, “Let me say it isn’t to me to pass that judgment, and those who choose a lifestyle that I’ll say is not one that’s annointed and favored by my faith — or their faith, for that matter — that’s between them and God.”
King is a longtime favorite of anti-gay hate groups.

Human Rights Campaign Inducts 19 Members Of Congress Into Hall Of Shame

The Human Rights Campaign today announced the induction of 19 member of Congress into its Hall Of Shame for anti-LGBT actions.
“If you want to understand why LGBT equality has hit a roadblock in Congress, you don't need to look any further than these leaders of anti-LGBT obstruction and animus,” said David Stacy, HRC’s Government Affairs Director. “These members go out of their way to oppose any step toward equal protection under the law or to protect LGBT Americans from violence, discrimination and harassment. They proactively work to undermine existing legal protections and promote anti-LGBT discrimination.”

Released in advance of the HRC Scorecard for the 113th Congress, HRC identified these elected officials as the most anti-equality members of Congress by looking at their voting records in this and previous Congresses, their introduction and co-sponsorships of anti-LGBT legislation, and their public statements. While there are other anti-LGBT members of Congress, these elected officials’ legislative actions, votes and anti-LGBT vitriol unfortunately marks them with a modern day scarlet letter.
The only Democrat on the list, Rep. Mike McIntrye, has signed Rep. Randy Weber's laughably doomed bill that would limit the federal government to only recognizing same-sex marriages that are legally conducted in the state where the married couple resides. McIntrye is retiring after the current term.

Colbert: "Self-Professed" Gays Should Send Rep. Steve King Proof Of Gayness

Mediaite recaps last night's Stephen Colbert show:
This past weekend, King told local TV station WHO-TV that these “self-professed” gays could just as easily be straight people “setting up a case” against a business that tries to discriminate them. Colbert recounted that familiar scenario in which someone pretends to come out to their family, then pretends to fall in love, then pretends to get engaged, just so they can sue their potential florist at the last minute. “As Steve King knows, even if gays do exist, it’s nearly impossible to prove it,” Colbert said. That’s why he’s asking gays from around the country to “send photos and/or videos to Steve King, proving that you are gay.” He went ahead and provided to address on screen to make it that much easier for everyone. “Be sure to label your envelope campaign contributions, so you know that he’ll read it,” Colbert added.

Liberal Group Zings GOP Rep. Steve King

Mediaite reports:
Over the past few weeks, Iowa Congressman Steve King showed that he’s not one to mince words on illegal immigration. He might, however, want to look into how to rip videos. King sent out a fundraising email to his supporters Monday morning with a video of a speech from last year, in which he argued that America’s immigration system should choose the “pick of the litter” from “donor countries.” These remarks led recently to a feisty exchange with Univision anchor Jorge Ramos, who accused King of comparing immigrants to dogs, a claim King vociferously denied. King asked his supporters to decide for themselves whether he was “complimenting immigrants.” But the video he embedded was taken from American Bridge, a liberal activist group. When they noticed King was playing their media, they snuck in a couple messages to his donors.

Quote Of The Day - Rep. Steve King

"Some of them are valedictorians, and their parents brought them in. It wasn't their fault. It's true in some cases, but they aren't all valedictorians. They weren't all brought in by their parents. For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert. Those people would be legalized with the same act." - Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who has introduced a bill to reverse President Obama's delayed deportations of DREAMers.

Crackpot GOP Rep. Steve King Whines For Help Over Student Immigration Activists

A small group of teenage DREAM activists have crackpot GOP Rep. Steve King wetting his Sansabelts.
King, a long-time immigration hardliner, last week sponsored an effort to cut funding for President Obama's deferred action program, which grants deportation reprieves to DREAMers. In response, United  We Dream, an undocumented youth activist group, organized a protest at the Iowa congressman's office this morning. Two dozen or so demonstrators showed up at King's office to voice their displeasure with him, organizers said. They arrived wearing caps and gowns (photo here) to reinforce their message that they want to pursue higher education and careers in the U.S. But the real story quickly became about how King framed the protest on Twitter.
Last year King infamously referred to immigrants as dogs, saying that America should only be accepting the "pick of the litter" and not the lazy dogs "sleeping in the corner."

GOP Rep. Steve King Introduces Bill To End Birthright Citizenship

Tea Party hero Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has introduced a bill that would deny American citizenship to the children of undocumented immigrants.
The bill would amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth. It's generally thought that the 14th Amendment provides a constitutional guarantee of citizenship for anyone born in the United States -- known as "birthright citizenship" -- but King told Hotsheet last year that he does not interpret the 14th Amendment that way. So far, King's bill has three co-sponsors listed: Reps. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), Gary Miller (R-Calif.) and Rob Woodall (R-Ga.).
This is just more teabagger grandstanding.

GOP Rep. Steve King: I'm Going To Sue Obama To Stop Immigration Reform

GOP Rep. Steve King (Iowa) says he will be the lead plaintiff in a federal lawsuit to stop President Obama's immigration reform plan. Wingnut site Daily Caller reports:
“I think we’re talking weeks rather than months,” King told The Daily Caller in an interview Friday about the planned legal action against Obama. King’s lawsuit is in response to the Obama administration’s divisive announcement last month that the government would stop deporting certain illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. The congressman said a meeting was held last Tuesday with potential co-plaintiffs interested in signing on to the lawsuit to prevent the Obama administration from going through with its plan.
King concedes that it will be difficult for him to establish standing to bring the suit.
