Louie Gohmert: Put Gays On An Island To Test Nature's Opinion On Marriage

"We could take four heterosexual couples, married, and put them on an island where they have everything they need to sustain life. Then take four all-male couples and put them on an island with all they need to sustain life, take four couples of women, married, and put them on an island, and let’s come back in 100 to 200 years and see which one nature says is the preferred marriage." - Rep. Louie Gohmert, speaking to the Eagle Forum.

Louis Gohmert: I'm Not Backing Ted Cruz Because I Might Run For President Myself

Via The Hill:
Conservative firebrand Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told The Hill that he might run for president in 2016. Gohmert indicated he might launch an exploratory committee for president when originally asked if he would support Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) White House bid. "Ted is a good friend and would be an outstanding President; however, I haven't ruled out an exploratory committee myself," Gohmert said in a statement to The Hill. Gohmert launched long-shot bids for Speaker in January and for chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a group of House conservatives. But the Texas Republican accrued just three votes during the Speaker election — from himself as well as Reps. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) and Randy Weber (R-Texas).
The above-linked piece notes that Gohmert holds the 2014 House record for extemporaneous speeches mostly delivered to an empty chamber, babbling for 29 hours. The next-closest House rep spoke for 10 hours during last year's session.

TRAILER: Light Wins

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
Radical Religious Right activist Janet Porter has released yet another trailer for her upcoming documentary "Light Wins: How To Overcome The Criminalization Of Christianity," which features a who's who of anti-gay activists as well as several Republican members of Congress and presidential hopefuls Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee. "Like a tank in Tiananmen Square," Porter says, as she walks down the middle of a dark street as a pair of headlights bear down upon her, "the homosexual agenda has been running over people since Anita Bryant's courageous stand in the 1970s." After that, it is nothing but 10 minutes of anti-gay activists calling upon Christians to rise up and fight back against the "homosexual agenda."
So many of the most infamous anti-gay villains are in this clip, your computer might just explode from all the spittle-flecked crackpottery.

GOP Leaders Appear In Janet Porter Documentary: Gays Want The Total Criminalization Of Christianity

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
Today, Faith 2 Action's Janet Porter sent out an email to activists excitedly announcing that she is finishing up editing a new anti-gay documentary that she intends to release at the National Religious Broadcaster's Convention in Nashville at the end of this month. Among the participants are Rep. Steve King, Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Sen. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, James Dobson, Mat Staver, Phyllis Schlafly, Scott Lively, Alveda King, Brian Camenker, Frank Pavone, Robert Knight, John Stemberger, and, of course, Porter herself, who can been seen walking around in the woods with a lantern, warning that gay activists are seeking to turn Christians into criminals.
You'll see another familiar face in the trailer. Hit this RWW post for a roundup of many insane claims made by Janet Porter.

Tea Party Loon Rep. Louie Gohmert: I'm Running To Unseat Boehner As Speaker

Via the wingnut Heritage Foundation:
In announcing his bid today for speaker of the House of Representative, Rep. Louie Gohmert promised to be the engine of change that conservatives have been calling for in their rebellion against the establishment wing of the Republican Party. “It is time for a change; it really is time for a change,” Gohmert said on “Fox & Friends” while announcing his campaign to unseat incumbent Speaker John Boehner. Gohmert, R-Texas, criticized Boehner, R-Ohio, for a “number of years of broken promises,” and specifically challenged the speaker’s decision to pass the “CRomnibus” spending bill in December without blocking President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. If elected speaker, Gohmert said he will “fight amnesty tooth and nail.” He said his agenda would also include defunding Obamacare and having “positive solutions that will return power back to the people.” House members are set to vote for their next speaker on Tuesday.

Rep. Louis Gohmert: Gay Massages Put The Military In Danger Of Terrorism

"I've had people say, 'Hey, you know, there's nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks.' Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle. But you know what, it's a different kind of fighting, it's a different kind of war and if you're sitting around getting massages all day ready to go into a big, planned battle, then you're not going to last very long. It's guerrilla fighting. You are going to be ultimately vulnerable to terrorism and if that's what you start doing in the military like the Greeks did. As people have said, 'Louie, you have got to understand, you don't even know your history.' Oh yes I do. I know exactly. It's not a good idea." - Rep. Louis Gohmert, speaking on Christian radio.

Human Rights Campaign Inducts 19 Members Of Congress Into Hall Of Shame

The Human Rights Campaign today announced the induction of 19 member of Congress into its Hall Of Shame for anti-LGBT actions.
“If you want to understand why LGBT equality has hit a roadblock in Congress, you don't need to look any further than these leaders of anti-LGBT obstruction and animus,” said David Stacy, HRC’s Government Affairs Director. “These members go out of their way to oppose any step toward equal protection under the law or to protect LGBT Americans from violence, discrimination and harassment. They proactively work to undermine existing legal protections and promote anti-LGBT discrimination.”

Released in advance of the HRC Scorecard for the 113th Congress, HRC identified these elected officials as the most anti-equality members of Congress by looking at their voting records in this and previous Congresses, their introduction and co-sponsorships of anti-LGBT legislation, and their public statements. While there are other anti-LGBT members of Congress, these elected officials’ legislative actions, votes and anti-LGBT vitriol unfortunately marks them with a modern day scarlet letter.
The only Democrat on the list, Rep. Mike McIntrye, has signed Rep. Randy Weber's laughably doomed bill that would limit the federal government to only recognizing same-sex marriages that are legally conducted in the state where the married couple resides. McIntrye is retiring after the current term.

Louie Gohmert: It's Time To Bomb Iran

Rep. Louie Gohmert says it's time to bomb Iran because Gaza.
“It is time to cut off every dime of American money going to anyone who has any kind of relationship with Hamas or those killing in the Middle East, and especially in Israel,” said Gohmert. “It is time to bomb Iran’s nuclear capabilities,” Gohmert concluded. “It is time for the United States, if we are not going to stop Iran’s nukes, then let Israel do it. A friend will not put another friend in this kind of jeopardy."

Gohmert: Obama Won't Defend American Women From Rapist Immigrants

Via Raw Story:
According to the Tea Party-backed Republican, “criminal aliens” had committed 2,993 homicides in the past six years. “And they’ve committed at least 7,695 sexual assaults,” he insisted. “You want to talk about a war on women? This administration will not defend the women of America from criminal aliens! By the thousands, and hundreds of thousands!” “Well, we know thousands,” Gohmert opined. “And we know people are coming in by the hundreds of thousands illegally. And this administration wants to talk about other people having a war on women when they will not defend the women that are being sexually assaulted by illegally aliens in this country!”

Louie Gohmert: Send Troops To Mexico

Brian Tashman writes at Right Wing Watch:
Rep. Louie Gohmert is pretty sure that President Obama is pushing for minors to cross the border as part of a giant voter fraud scheme, and thinks that if the president were serious about cracking down on illegal immigration, then he would send troops to the Southern border … and perhaps into Mexico. “If he wanted to, he could do what Woodrow Wilson did,” the Texas congressman told News Talk Florida host Dan Maduri, referring to Wilson’s military intervention in Mexico.

Rep. Louis Gohmert: It's The Job Of Christians To Tell Non-Christians That They Are Totally Going To Hell

Via Raw Story:
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Tuesday grilled a pastor who supports the separation of church and state, asking him why he did not share the “good news” that non-Christians were going to Hell. At a House Judiciary Committee hearing about religious freedom on Tuesday, Gohmert told the Rev. Barry Lynn, who serves as the executive director for Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, that the Founders of the country — and Franklin Roosevelt — had often mentioned religion in their writings. “Do you believe in sharing the good news that will keep people from going to Hell, consistent with Christian beliefs?” the Texas Republican wondered. Lynn, however, disagreed with the congressman’s “construction of what Hell is like or why one gets there.” “So, you do not believe somebody would go to Hell if they do not believe Jesus is the way, the truth, the life?” Gohmert pressed.
You are going to spend eternity writhing in a lake of fire because God loves you so fucking much. And any law that stops somebody from screaming that to you at your government workplace? That law was written by Satan.

Teabagger Rep. Louie Gohmert Acts Out SNL Skit To Empty US House Chamber

Mediaite sets the stage:
The problem, in Gohmert’s estimation, is that the line Tina Fey delivered on Saturday Night Live as Palin — “I can see Russia from my house” — has overshadowed Palin’s actual quote to ABC News’ Charles Gibson concerning Russia’s proximity to Alaska. As Gohmert long-windedly explained from the House floor, what Palin actually said was, “You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.” To make his point, Gohmert read aloud lengthy excerpts from both the ABC News interview and the SNL sketch. “We know that Saturday Night Live has altered sketches that in the past, at least once, I recall seeing, where they were afraid it might make President Obama look bad and they certainly didn’t want to do that,” Gohmert said. “It’s OK to take shots at Republicans, but they certainly didn’t want to be fair and hit back at President Obama in the same way.” For the record, he did say that he thinks Lorne Michaels is a “comic genius.” From there, Gohmert proceeded to do the least funny reenactment of an SNL sketch ever, playing both Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton.

Lou Dobbs Vs Rep. Louie Gohmert

We don't often see a Fox anchor going after a GOP rep this way.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was just one of 199 Republicans who voted against raising the debt ceiling yesterday, in open defiance of House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH). But when Gohmert appeared on Fox Business Network with Lou Dobbs, he received what seemed like 100% of the blame for what the host called pure “political theater” by the ultra-conservative wing of the GOP. “How in the world do you expect the Republican Party to not find itself in the same strategic blind and bind that it was in last year when you guys shut down the federal government?” Dobbs demanded of Gohmert. “There comes a time where there just has to be some pragmatism. Go out an win an election, get 400 members, get 100 senators, get a presidency.”

Rep. Louie Gohmert: Activist Judges Need Lessons In Basic Plumbing

"Our court didn't see any biological evidence to support marriage being between a man and a woman. They need some basic plumbing lessons. For one omnipotent, omniscious, ubiquitous federal judge who is wise beyond his education to say to make such a declaration about the law, I think, requires revisiting by each state and compliance with the U.S. Supreme Court." - Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), speaking at a meeting for the anti-gay Heritage Foundation.

27 GOP House Reps Co-Sponsor Randy Weber's Bill To Ban Federal Recognition Of Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages

Yesterday House Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) introduced a laughably doomed bill that would limit the federal government to only recognizing same-sex marriages that are legally conducted in the state where the married couple resides. Since the bill's introduction, 27 GOP members of the House have signed on as co-sponsors. The list so far is a cavalcade of crackpottery: Michele Bachmann, Louis Gohmert, John Fleming, etc. Eleven of the 27 co-sponsors are from Texas.

SWeber, a freshman rep and former air conditioner repairman, has previously only authored one failed House resolution. Therefore I suspect his bill was actually written by the Family Research Council, who jointly announced its introduction yesterday with an appearance by Weber on Tony Perkins' national radio show. Other anti-gay hate groups are today praising the bill, including NOM, which posted the below message today on their blog.
The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) today expressed its support for a bill announced in Congress yesterday, the “State Marriage Defense Act of 2014” (HR 3829), and praised Representative Randy Weber (R-TX) for authoring and introducing “this vitally important legislation.” “Representative Weber deserves praise for this vitally important legislation which will lend clarity to the way states’ marriage laws are dealt with by federal agencies,” said Brian Brown, NOM’s President. “The bill simply reaffirms and strengthens the rights reserved by the states under the US constitution.” Brown also said that the bill is based upon a proper understanding of last summer’s decision by the Supreme Court in the Windsor case that struck down one facet of the law but supported states’ rights to determine their own definition of marriage.
Wonkette today posted a typically fabulous reaction.

Given that even Utah briefly recognized gay marriage, we are pretty sure that this legislation isn’t going to go anywhere, let alone have a chance in hell of passing the Senate with Harry Reid being the badass that he is. However, it is a good reminder that there has always and forever been only one form of marriage which is between a man with a PENIS and a woman with governmentally regulated LADYPARTS the GOP continues to hate on the gays in new and inventive ways. We have no idea if this bill deals with age-of-marriage laws, which also differ between states, but we guess that so long as that 12-year-old GIRL is marrying a 40-year-old MAN, Weber and his ilk are probably totes cool with it, because that is WAY MOAR BETTERER than two consenting adult menfolk doin’ it in the butt.
