KANSAS: Staffer For Anti-Gay US House Rep Busted On Child Sex Charges

Family Research Council BFF and US House Rep. Tim Huelskamp (above) is best known around here for his attempts to block marriage equality and LGBT rights. But the "family rights" advocate now has a major in-house problem. Via Topeka's CBS affiliate:
A staffer for a Kansas congressman is in jail charged with 17 counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Matthew P. Pennell was arrested on Thursday. Pennell was arrested following an investigation by the Dodge City Police Department and members of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. The case has been filed with the Ford County Attorney's office. His bond is set at $75,000. Congressman Tim Huelskamp Office issued this response to the allegations: “Upon learning of his arrest, the Office immediately placed Mr. Pennell on Leave Without Pay until further notice. Because this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further comment at this time." – Mark Kelly, Chief of Staff, Office of Congressman Tim Huelskamp.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp: Gay Marriage Hurts The Economy, Rejects Laws Of Nature

Rep. Tim Huelskamp appeared on Tony Perkins' radio show last night to flog the latest attempt to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment. "This is National Marriage Week. What a better time to call your members of Congress and say, 'What are you doing to protect marriage? What are you doing to protect children and our economic well-being?"

GOP Leaders Appear In Janet Porter Documentary: Gays Want The Total Criminalization Of Christianity

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
Today, Faith 2 Action's Janet Porter sent out an email to activists excitedly announcing that she is finishing up editing a new anti-gay documentary that she intends to release at the National Religious Broadcaster's Convention in Nashville at the end of this month. Among the participants are Rep. Steve King, Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Sen. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, James Dobson, Mat Staver, Phyllis Schlafly, Scott Lively, Alveda King, Brian Camenker, Frank Pavone, Robert Knight, John Stemberger, and, of course, Porter herself, who can been seen walking around in the woods with a lantern, warning that gay activists are seeking to turn Christians into criminals.
You'll see another familiar face in the trailer. Hit this RWW post for a roundup of many insane claims made by Janet Porter.

KANSAS: Gov. Sam Brownback Leads Rally Against Same-Sex Marriage

Via the Kansas NBC affiliate:
Governor Sam Brownback spoke out against same-sex marriage at a rally on the east side of Wichita. The Whistle Bus Stop Tour rally this morning brought dozens of speakers out, all of which oppose same-sex marriage in Kansas. The rally was also met by opposition of those who feel Kansas needs to get on-board with many other states in the country and allow same-sex couples the same liberties. More than one hundred people packed the Summit Church parking lot this morning to take a stance on same-sex marriage. Those in the crowd are hopeful an amendment they voted for in 2005, stating that marriage shall be constituted by one man and one woman only, will hold up. It’s a sentiment that Gov. Brownback echoed. “70-percent of Kansans voted to put in your constitution that marriage is the definition of a man and a woman,” said Gov. Brownback. Other state officials took to the podium, delivering a message that could soon become reality. “If we lose the battle you will have to accept the view that marriage can be anything three judges say it is,” said U.S. representative Tim Huelskamp.

Human Rights Campaign Inducts 19 Members Of Congress Into Hall Of Shame

The Human Rights Campaign today announced the induction of 19 member of Congress into its Hall Of Shame for anti-LGBT actions.
“If you want to understand why LGBT equality has hit a roadblock in Congress, you don't need to look any further than these leaders of anti-LGBT obstruction and animus,” said David Stacy, HRC’s Government Affairs Director. “These members go out of their way to oppose any step toward equal protection under the law or to protect LGBT Americans from violence, discrimination and harassment. They proactively work to undermine existing legal protections and promote anti-LGBT discrimination.”

Released in advance of the HRC Scorecard for the 113th Congress, HRC identified these elected officials as the most anti-equality members of Congress by looking at their voting records in this and previous Congresses, their introduction and co-sponsorships of anti-LGBT legislation, and their public statements. While there are other anti-LGBT members of Congress, these elected officials’ legislative actions, votes and anti-LGBT vitriol unfortunately marks them with a modern day scarlet letter.
The only Democrat on the list, Rep. Mike McIntrye, has signed Rep. Randy Weber's laughably doomed bill that would limit the federal government to only recognizing same-sex marriages that are legally conducted in the state where the married couple resides. McIntrye is retiring after the current term.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS): God Is The Third In Your Three-Way Marriage

Matt Wilstein recaps at Mediaite:
Many opponents of LGBT rights think marriage should only be between one man and one woman. But not Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS). As he told his colleagues on the floor of the House Tuesday evening, “There’s a third person in your marriage.” He was, of course, referring to God. Huelskamp was speaking out in support of National Marriage Week, which aims to strengthen individual marriages, reduce the divorce rate, and build a stronger marriage culture.” The group also believes recognizes “in particular that social science is clear that children are best served when they grow up with both a mother and father.”

Rachel Maddow Vs. Rep. Tim Huelskamp

If you didn't catch this craziness last night:
A question over the inclusion of Army Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg at Tuesday’s State of the Union address spiraled into a policy-spanning battle between MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), who accused her of hiding from what his party calls the truth about the Benghazi attack. “This administration promised to be the most transparent in history, Rachel,” an animated Huelskamp told Maddow. “And if you would stop being a cheerleader and be a journalist, you’d recognize that we’re not getting those answers.” “Did you just call me a cheerleader?” Maddow asked. “I don’t know, maybe you have that history,” Huelskamp scoffed, before saying, “If it was [George W.] Bush, you would be jumping and screaming.” “You’re amazing,” a visibly perturbed Maddow said.
Things get going around the 5:00 mark. If case you're unaware, Huelskamp is among the most virulently anti-gay teabaggers in the House.

Brian Brown: Please Send Us More Money For Our Doomed And "Moot" Campaign

"Let's face it: Anthony Kennedy and his activist cronies on the Supreme Court are itching to redefine marriage and impose same-sex 'marriage' on an unwilling nation. Justice Scalia has warned us clearly in his dissent that the only thing that will stop Kennedy and crew is their own sense of what they can get away with. The most direct and effective way of ensuring that gay 'marriage' is not inserted into the US Constitution by an activist majority on the Supreme Court is to amend the Constitution itself to preserve marriage. That's just what we're determined to do!

"We're under no illusions about how difficult it will be to pass a constitutional amendment, but we've faced tough battles before - and prevailed. We passed Proposition 8 in California, when everyone said it would be impossible! It was only through judicial and political corruption that politicians like Jerry Brown and Kamala Harris were able to abandon the voters, and a single homosexual judge was allowed to invalidate it. It's imperative that no other state have to go through what Californians have suffered. We're demanding that the Huelskamp marriage protection amendment come before the full House of Representatives for a vote.

"We're going to need millions of dollars to effectively push for a constitutional amendment. That's what it will cost to hire trained lobbyists, mount new grassroots efforts, organize rallies and events and deploy effective communications efforts. It's only if thousands of marriage supporters like you stand up and give generously that we can be successful." - Hate group leader Brian Brown, still silent about his own board member, Orson Scott Card, calling NOM's battle "moot."
