REPORT: NBC To Produce New Tina Fey Show Set In Fire Island

Deadline Hollywood reports that NBC has signed a deal for a new Tina Fey-produced show that appears to have its setting in a Fire Island bar.

The project, said to be in the vein of Cheers, is a character-driven workplace comedy where a young woman in search of reconnecting with her father finds a new home and family on Fire Island. This marks the first project from Fey’s Little Stranger production company under the four-year deal she inked with Uni TV last fall.

It should be noted that there are a dozen towns on Fire Island and that the two gay hotspots, Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove, are not mentioned in reports about the show. Still, this is Tina Fey, so...

Well, at least we'll get the final season.

The struggling Peacock network is taking a new direction with its primetime lineup, and that means cleaning house. Until this week, the once-dominant network had been suspiciously mum on its plans for next season. That all changed with a giant info dump from NBC execs which included the fates of veteran sitcoms “30 Rock,” “Community” and “Parks and Recreation.” All three critical darlings will be given abbreviated “send off” seasons followed by immediate termination. Despite receiving generally favorable reviews, NBC’s long-running Thursday comedy lineup has never garnered stellar ratings. The limited order of 13 episodes for each show must have seen like a good compromise solution for the network that has seen itself slide from first to fourth place over the last decade.

Mama Grizzly Rises Up

Right-wing filmmaker Jon Zeigler sits Sarah Palin down to rip on bloggers, Katie Couric, Tina Fey, and the liberal gotcha media. Some booing from the SNL audience at the beginning of the second clip, but otherwise he was well-received. It pains me to admit that John McCain does have some comedic chops.

Ferrell-Bush And Fey-Palin

Will Ferrell made a cameo appearance on SNL: Thursday Update last night to reprise his excellent Dubya impersonation. Not their funniest sketch, but a little Tina Fey goes a long way. Ferrell will play Dubya in a one-man Broadway show scheduled to open on February 1st.

Palin On SNL

As expected, last night Sarah Palin appeared on SNL. Her first bit was so-so, but she wasn't as terribly wooden as some politicians have been. Palin had even less to do in the Weekend Update skit than in the opening, but (as always) Amy Poehler knocked it out of the park in a rap parody of Palin's campaign.

I Can See Russia From My House!

Tina Fey did not disappoint last night, delivering an uncanny and hilarious impression of Sarah Palin. And of course, Amy Poehler (who's about 300 weeks pregnant) was great. One of the best things SNL has done in ages. The rest of the show (especially Michael Phelps), not so much.
