On today’s edition of the “700 Club,” a viewer told Robertson that her 13-year-old step-son, who “lives with his mother most of the time,” has “crushes on boys” and wanted the televangelist’s help. Repeating the myth that homosexuality is the result of a lack of parental bonding, Robertson said “his attraction is now toward other men because he’s raised by a woman.”

It was just a couple of months ago that Pat Robertson surprised us all by seemingly sympathizing with trans people by saying, "I don't understand all that, but I think there are men who are in a woman's body. It's very rare, but it's true. [snip] I don't think there's any sin associated with that. [Having gender reassignment surgery.] I don't condemn anybody for doing that." Today we see that Robertson doesn't really understand what transgender actually means, as he compared trans people to his gelded horse.

In today's "Bring It Online" segment on the 700 Club, Pat Robertson fielded an email from an elderly woman who is living on Social Security and wonders if it would be a sin to stop tithing in order to help pay her sick husband's medical bills. Robertson responded: "Read carefully what the bible has to say in Malachi. He says, 'Prove me with your tithes and offerings and I will rebuke the devourer for your sake.' Your husband has all these medical problems because the devourer has not been rebuked! You need to rebuke him, you give your tithes faithfully and God, he says, 'I will rebuke the devourer, the person who is eating up your money and eating up your health.' So, you want to be healthy, that's a promise in the word!" Start at the 3:20 mark in the clip below.

CLAIM: Pat Robertson Scammed Millions Of Dollars Through African Charity

Mission Congo, by David Turner and Lara Zizic, opens at the Toronto film festival on Friday. It describes how claims about the scale of aid to Rwandan refugees were among a number of exaggerated or false assertions about the activities of Operation Blessing which pulls in hundreds of millions of dollars a year in donations, much of it through Robertson's televangelism. They include characterising a failed large-scale farming project as a huge success, and claims about providing schools and other infrastructure.

But some of the most damaging criticism of Robertson comes from former aid workers at Operation Blessing, who describe how mercy flights to save refugees were diverted hundreds of miles from the crisis to deliver equipment to a diamond mining concession run by the televangelist. Throughout the Rwandan refugee crisis, when more than 1 million people fled into neighbouring Zaire and started dying en masse of cholera, Robertson told his viewers that Operation Blessing was at the forefront of saving lives.

Right Wing Watch has posted excerpts from the 700 Club many, many times over the years. But very curiously, today's now infamous clip of Pat Robertson's douchetastic lie about gay men has been yanked from YouTube due to a copyright claim by the Christian Broadcasting Network. We're confident that RWW will soon be able to re-post the clip as it totally falls under the fair use rules. Since the clip made it onto dozens of major sites today and the damage is already done, we must wonder what CBN is worried about.

"I was asked by a viewer whether she had a right to leave her church because she had been asked to transport an elderly man who had AIDS and about whose condition she had not been informed. My advice was that the risk of contagion in those circumstances was quite low and that she should continue to attend the church and not worry about the incident.

"In my own experience, our organization sponsored a meeting years ago in San Francisco where trained security officers warned me about shaking hands because, in those days, certain AIDS-infected activists were deliberately trying to infect people like me by virtue of rings which would cut fingers and transfer blood.

"I regret that my remarks had been misunderstood, but this often happens because people do not listen to the context of remarks which are being said. In no wise (sic) were my remarks meant as an indictment of the homosexual community or, for that fact, to those infected with this dreadful disease." - Pat Robertson, in a statement emailed to me by the head publicist for the 700 Club.

CBN Grossed $487M In 2012

Pat Robertson's CBN grossed over $487 million in FY12, according to the Evangelical Council for Fiscal Accountability, a group to which CBN reports. As astounding as that figure is, it's still down significantly from CBN's 2010 gross of $747 million.
