Oprah Postpones Michael Sam Doc

Apparently in reaction to criticism from the St. Louis Rams, Oprah Winfrey's OWN network has put the Michael Sam documentary on hold.
“After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, the untitled Michael Sam project has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team,” said Erik Logan, president of OWN. “OWN is about elevating and empowering people to achieve their best. It’s clear that we, along with the world, recognize the important opportunity that Michael now has in this moment. We will continue to support him in his journey to earn a spot playing for the Rams.” “After today’s meeting with the Rams, we collectively feel it is best to postpone the project,” said Sam’s agent Cameron Weiss. “This will allow for Michael to have a total focus on football and will ensure no distractions to his teammates. Everybody involved remains committed to this project and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message.”
Bryan Fischer is exulting that the NFL has told Sam to "go back into the closet."

Oprah To Produce Michael Sam Doc

Via CBS Sports:
The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) announced Wednesday that it would create a multi-part documentary series on Sam and "his historic journey as he prepares to enter the biggest professional sports league in America." It's an untitled project, but the network is working with Emmy-winning producer Craig Piligian and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Amy Rice. In the news release, OWN says its cameras will follow Sam, but it's unclear how much locker room/practice field access the network will get from the NFL. “We are honored that Michael is trusting us with his private journey in this moment that has not only made history but will shape it forever,” Winfrey said in a statement. “I am proud of the focus on authentic storytelling in our new documentary series format. The next real-life story we follow in ‘The Untitled Michael Sam Project' promises to spark valuable, important discussion on life in America today. Acceptance and illumination start here.”

Highest Paid Celebrities Of 2013

From the annual ranking just issued by Forbes:
Madonna‘s latest album, MDNA, was a flop. Her 12th studio album, Madonna sold fewer than 1 million copies of MDNA in the U.S. and the singles, like “Give Me All Your Luvin,” failed to impress on the pop music scene. But the tour that the Material Girl launched to go along with her new album was a spectacular success. Fans didn’t flock to stadium and spend upwards of $100 per ticket to hear Madonna’s latest stuff. They went to hear hits like “Vogue,” “Like a Virgin” and “Lucky Star.” The tour grossed $305 million and earned her the Top Touring Award at the Billboard Music Awards. Add to that strong merchandise sales, a clothing line, fragrance and investments in companies like Vita Coco and Madonna tops our list of the Highest Earning Celebrities. We estimate the pop star brought in $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013. That’s more money than Madonna has ever earned in the time we’ve been doing our Celebrity 100 list. The closest she came to $125 million was in 2009 when she earned $110 million. Madonna’s success, at age 55, just goes to show the incredible power of a successful music career.
1. Madonna — $125 million
2. Steven Spielberg — $100 million
3. Simon Cowell — $95 million
4. E.L. James — $95 million
5. Howard Stern — $95 million

CANADA: Circumcision Opponents To Protest Appearances By Oprah Winfrey

Canadian anti-circumcision activists say they will protest outside several  appearances by Oprah Winfrey because she has endorsed a skincare line that uses human cells harvested from foreskins. Via the Jewish Press:
“How would Oprah respond if a skin cream for men hit the market that was made using cells from the genitalia of little girls? I think she would be absolutely disgusted and appalled, and rightly so. So it’s crazy that she’s doing the opposite,” the group’s founder Glen Callender told the Toronto Star. “We think it’s extremely hypocritical and distasteful that Oprah Winfrey — who is herself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and an outspoken opponent of female genital mutilation — at the same time uses and promotes a product that wouldn’t exist if not for the forcible genital mutilation of boys.”
The founder of the skincare line says that the cells are grown from a single foreskin obtained over 20 years ago.

The disgraced cycling superstar came clean about his years-long campaign of deception in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that was taped yesterday and will air Thursday night, sources said. Surrounded by 10 friends and advisers, the 41-year-old cancer survivor copped to cheating during an emotional interview with the talk-show doyenne in an Austin, Texas, hotel. The edited, 90-minute-long interview airs 9 p.m. Thursday on Winfrey’s network, OWN.

Oprah: I Am Totally NOT A Lesbian

Oprah Winfrey is sick and tired of all those lesbian rumors about her and gal pal Gayle King. And she's let Barbara Walters know that in no uncertain terms: "I'm not a lesbian. I'm not even kind of a lesbian. And the reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm lying. That's number one. Number two ... why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life!"
