Gary Bauer: America Needs Sanctuary Cities For Conservative Christians

"What if there were sanctuary cities for religious conservatives? Imagine if some city in red-state America – perhaps Little Rock, Arkansas; Dallas, Texas; or Bowling Green, Kentucky – decided to be a refuge for unborn children and refused to grant business licenses to abortion clinics. What if a city decided that it was going to be a sanctuary city for the Ten Commandments and displayed them in schools, libraries, and the county courthouse? What if a city decided that it was important for children to have mothers and fathers, declared itself a sanctuary city for traditional marriage, and refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples? Remember when liberals said that illegal immigrants needed to be granted legal status in order to bring them 'out of the shadows' of society? Remember when liberals insisted that gays needed to be given full marriage rights so that they could step out of the closet? Well, these groups may have emerged from the shadows and stepped out of the closet. But those places won’t stay empty for long. Christians, if liberals have their way, will soon fill them." - Gary Bauer, writing for American Thinker.

Wingnut Coalition To GOP: Now We LOVE The Democrats' Filibuster Rule Change

A coalition of far-right groups has sent a letter to incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urging him to keep the filibuster rule change made by the Democrats last year.
A group of 26 conservative academics, advocates and leaders wrote in a letter that they see “very little upside” to restoring the old rules, which had allowed the minority party to require 60 votes to confirm nominees. They say the rules would help Republicans put “committed constitutionalists” on the bench if the White House changes hands in 2016. “The decision by Senator [Harry] Reid and his Democratic colleagues to deploy the so-called ‘nuclear option’ was transparently designed to facilitate the confirmation of judicial nominees who would insulate ObamaCare and other aspects of President Obama’s agenda from meaningful judicial review,” the letter says.  Regardless of their motives, we see very little upside and significant downside in reviving the judicial filibuster.
You will recall that these groups screamed bloody murder when the Democrats made the filibuster rule change, even though many of them had explicitly advocated for that very change the last time the GOP was in charge. Among those signing this week's letter are Phyllis Schlafly, Gary Bauer, Concerned Women head Penny Nance, AFA radio shrieker Sandy Rios, Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver, and Family Research Council senior fellow Ken Blackwell.

Wingnuts Turn On Rand Paul, Part Three

"As certainly Sen. Paul knows, the President is on an anti-family, anti-life, anti-marriage, anti-religious liberty crusade, using the power of the presidency, executive orders regulation, pressure from the Justice Department, to undermine basic institutions of our country and of our culture. I think he's hurting himself. And I think once this becomes more widely known, I believe it will hurt his or any other Republican presidential possibility, if they're telling millions of American voters that make up the core of the conservative coalition that he or anybody else does not intend to deal with those issues." - Former Family Research Council president and failed 2000 presidential candidate Gary Bauer, speaking to OneNewsNow.

Gary Bauer Has The St. Patrick's Sadz

"Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams have cast their lots with the militant homosexual rights movement and withdrawn their sponsorships of New York City's annual St. Patrick's Day parade. The beer companies are attempting to claim the moral high ground, shaming the Catholic organizers of the St. Patrick's Day parade because they will not allow open homosexuals to march in the parade. Where does this nonsense end? New York City already has a major 'gay pride' parade. Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams could simply sponsor that event if they cared so much about the issue. Would Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams force the St. Patrick's Day parade to include groups of polygamists and serial adulterers too? Sadly, this is more evidence of corporate America's complete meltdown on values issues. Far too many corporations are becoming active combatants in the culture war, fighting against the Judeo-Christian values cherished by so many of their consumers." - Former Family Research Council president and failed 2000 presidential candidate Gary Bauer.

Gary Bauer: Judicial Terrorists On Supreme Court Are Outlawing The Bible

"Five liberal justices on our Supreme Court committed an act of judicial terrorism that struck at the very foundation of our constitutional republic. The court's liberal majority accepted a radical redefinition of marriage and imposed its morality on the rest of society. In doing so, five unelected judges rejected thousands of years of Judeo-Christian understanding, as well as congressional statutes, and set the stage for invalidating the will of the people in more than two-dozen states that have voted to maintain the traditional definition of marriage. Does the consent of the governed matter at all anymore? It seems as though America is on the verge of criminalizing the Book of Genesis." - Failed GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, in a message to his group, the Campaign For Working Families.

Gary Bauer: Anti-Gay Activists Might Be Thrown In Jail Due To DOMA Ruling

"The ultimate goal of homosexual-rights activists is not to legalize same-sex marriage. Rather, it is to silence those who disagree with them and, if necessary, to throw them in jail. In a world in which the biblical viewpoint of marriage is demonized, it does not take a constitutional scholar to predict that soon those who hold that view will find themselves in court. How did we get to the point where homosexual-rights activists would be clamoring to redefine society’s oldest and most reliable institution and people of faith would be worried about being fined or jailed for teaching their faith?" - Failed GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, writing for the Washington Times. Hate Groups Threaten To Leave GOP If Gay Marriage Opposition Is Ended

The above hate group leaders and crackpots have signed a letter to RNC chairman Reince Preibus in which they threaten to end their support for the GOP if the party platform is amended to remove the opposition to same-sex marriage.  Here's an excerpt:
Many homosexuals are active in the GOP because they agree with Republicans on economic issues. The fact that the Party is strongly committed to traditional marriage has not prevented their involvement through GOProud or Log Cabin Republicans. We deeply resent the insinuation that we have treated homosexuals unkindly personally.

And we would like to point out that in the four blue states where voters narrowly voted for same sex marriage in 2012, Mitt Romney, who refused to discuss the issue, lost by an average of five points more than the state initiatives to preserve marriage.

We respectfully warn GOP Leadership that an abandonment of its principles will necessarily result in the abandonment of our constituents to their support. We could not change that even if we wished to.

As a gesture of good faith and an affirmation of its positions, we strongly recommend that the RNC meeting in Los Angeles on April 9th pass a resolution reaffirming its support of the 2012 National GOP Platform adopted in Tampa.
The RNC meeting continues until the end of the week. Think Progress has the text of a proposed meeting resolution that reaffirms the continued opposition to same-sex marriage. Hit that link and you'll note that the resolution copiously cites the widely-debunked Regnerus study.

Gary Bauer: Mitt Romney Only Won NC Because Of The Anti-Gay Marriage Ads

Former FRC president and 2000 GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer filled in for Tony Perkins on the radio yesterday to say this about Mitt Romney:
The people of North Carolina took another look at Barack Obama and decided, ‘Hey, we made a mistake four years ago,’ and this time around they voted differently. I’d like to think at least in part that happened in North Carolina because of some ads that I and other groups ran in that state on the marriage issue, reminding the voters of North Carolina who had just voted just a little over a year ago to keep marriage between a man and a woman, that President Obama had come out right after that vote and had endorsed same-sex marriage. I believe the only reason that Gov. Romney won North Carolina was because the voters of that state were reminded of that issue, so it’s a lesson I think for the Republican Party.
Right Wing Watch reminds us how bad Bauer's ad was.

Gary Bauer: The GOP Will Never Surrender On Same-Sex Marriage

"Virtually all the candidates that competed for the GOP nomination this cycle supported traditional  marriage. The party platform unambiguously did, also.  I think that will be the case again in 2016.  Any drift in the GOP is minor compared to the all-out push that the president is making on this issue, even mentioning it in his Inaugural address.  To the extent that young people, including growing numbers of young Christians support same-sex 'marriage,' it’s not a failure of the GOP, it is a failure of the culture and the church." - Former GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, speaking to LifeSiteNews.

Gary Bauer Is Worried About SCOTUS

"The Supreme Court is split with four reliable liberals, four generally conservative justices and one moderate, swing vote — Justice Anthony Kennedy. While Justice Kennedy sided with conservatives in the Obamacare decision, he has a long history of siding with the court’s liberals when it comes to abortion and homosexual rights.

"For example, Justice Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in Romer v. Evans, which struck down a popularly-enacted ballot initiative in Colorado preventing special legal protection based solely on homosexual behavior. Justice Kennedy also wrote the majority opinion in Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down state laws against sodomy. Kennedy’s reasoning in both cases was so sweeping, it seems highly unlikely that he could uphold marriage as the union of one man and one woman." - Former Family Research Council president and 2000 presidential candidate Gary Bauer.

Gary Bauer Vs Sen. Orrin Hatch

"The goal of the gay rights movement is to take a state that has same-sex marriage and to use that state as a battering ram and a lawsuit before the Supreme Court to force every state to have same sex marriage. So I’m sorry that Orrin fell for it. But if only your side was willing to allow each state to make the decision on their own. I think Orrin Hatch may have had a bad moment or he forgets what’s happened in the last 30 years -- courts forcing radical social change on the American people." - Evangelical leader Gary Bauer, speaking to Michelangelo Signorile at the RNC. Two days ago Hatch said that while he opposes same-sex marriage, he does not support Mitt Romney's pledge to write a ban into the federal constitution.

Gary Bauer Is GLAAD To Be On The List

"I’m pleased to report that my name was included on a list of pro-family, Christian leaders. Others on the list include Chuck Colson, Tony Perkins, Jim Daly, Don Wildmon and Robert George. That’s pretty good company! So, what is this list? It is a media 'black list' drawn up by the GLAAD as part of its so-called 'Commentator Accountability Project.' GLAAD is working hard to silence conservative, pro-family, Christian voices in the media. My friends, the culture war is real. This is just the latest example of the radical left’s intolerance and its assault on free speech. That is why Fox is under attack and why advertisers on the Rush Limbaugh Show are being threatened. It is more evidence of its efforts to force faith and conservatism out of public arena and into the closet." - Gary Bauer, writing for his American Values newsletter.

RELATED: In the 80's Bauer was Reagan's Chief Domestic Policy Adviser. Then he was the president of the Family Research Council from 1988 to 1999, the period after it spun off from Focus On The Family, where he was vice president. Today he is the president of the anti-gay hate group, American Values. In 2010 he was one of the first prominent signers of the Manhattan Declaration, which calls on Christians to disobey laws that protect LGBT Americans from discrimination.

Gary Bauer On Kirk Cameron

"The left went nuts. Homosexual rights groups blasted Cameron's alleged bigotry and intolerance. Liberal Hollywood types rushed to Tweet their condemnation of Cameron's values and to reaffirm their fidelity to the gay marriage cause. Not long ago, virtually no one would have argued with Cameron's comments. But the cultural left is determined to impose its values on the rest of society. It began by purging faith from the public square and forcing it into the closet. Then abortion was forced on every state in the country. Now marriage is being redefined. The secularists want an America where traditional values cannot be spoken. As the Democrat Party embraced the radical left, more and more values voters found a home in the Republican Party. They expect the GOP to unapologetically defend their cherished values. Increasingly, however, it seems only one party is committed to fighting and winning the culture war." - Former presidential candidate Gary Bauer, via Right Wing Watch.

Quote Of The Day - Gary Bauer

"From the standpoint of the Democratic Party, she did a great job of ramming their agenda down the throats of the House of Representatives. But in so doing, she has alienated a good bit of the American people, including those independent voters. I thought it was rather humorous that for weeks and weeks, there was a big sign outside the Republican National Committee that said 'Fire Nancy Pelosi' -- followed a day or so after the election with a big sign that said 'Hire Nancy Pelosi.'" - American Values founder and former GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, saying that Republicans are delighted that Pelosi was retained as leader of the House Democrats. Bauer was president of the Family Research Council for the ten years before Tony Perkins took over.

PhoboQuotable - Gary Bauer

"What the White House wants is for a court to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act so that the White House and the president don't have to take the political damage for undermining a law that protects normal marriage. President Obama ran promising he would be open and transparent, and no longer practice the usual politics of Washington, DC. Millions of people voted for him because they thought he would be more honest and more open in the way he governed. What we're seeing here is something more reminiscent of the way they do politics in the wards of Chicago -- saying one thing and then doing something else behind the scenes." - One-time presidential candidate and all-time douchnozzle Gary Bauer, from a Christianist news site article lyingly titled Obama Administration Moves To Strike Down DOMA.

McCain: A One-Man Nuclear Shield

At the Voters Values Summit, evangelical nutjob Gary Bauer tried to stoke the fear of nuclear terrorism, saying the experts predict that "it is not a question of if it will happen, it is only a question of when it is going to happen. And the 'it' in this case, is when our enemy will detonate a dirty nuclear bomb in a U.S. city." Bauer goes on to quote unnamed sources who claim that "in sixy seconds 100,000 people will die." So we'd better elect John McCain, only he can stop it.
