Family Research Council: Racist Fraternity Chants Are The Fault Of Dan Savage

"Dan Savage, who is now having his life story being portrayed on a new sitcom on ABC, you know, here’s a guy that’s responsible for the coarsening of civil discussion and conversation being celebrated, at a time when there are knuckleheads who are still spewing from their lips the sort of nonsense that we’ve heard from these fraternity members."

Wingnut Coalition To GOP: Now We LOVE The Democrats' Filibuster Rule Change

A coalition of far-right groups has sent a letter to incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urging him to keep the filibuster rule change made by the Democrats last year.
A group of 26 conservative academics, advocates and leaders wrote in a letter that they see “very little upside” to restoring the old rules, which had allowed the minority party to require 60 votes to confirm nominees. They say the rules would help Republicans put “committed constitutionalists” on the bench if the White House changes hands in 2016. “The decision by Senator [Harry] Reid and his Democratic colleagues to deploy the so-called ‘nuclear option’ was transparently designed to facilitate the confirmation of judicial nominees who would insulate ObamaCare and other aspects of President Obama’s agenda from meaningful judicial review,” the letter says.  Regardless of their motives, we see very little upside and significant downside in reviving the judicial filibuster.
You will recall that these groups screamed bloody murder when the Democrats made the filibuster rule change, even though many of them had explicitly advocated for that very change the last time the GOP was in charge. Among those signing this week's letter are Phyllis Schlafly, Gary Bauer, Concerned Women head Penny Nance, AFA radio shrieker Sandy Rios, Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver, and Family Research Council senior fellow Ken Blackwell.

Black Conservatives Group Aligns Itself With Anti-Gay World Congress Of Families

From a press release published by Christian Newswire:
The World Congress of Families is pleased to announce that the Black Conservative Summit (BCS) Leadership Initiative this fall in Washington D.C. organized by Freedom's Journal Institute has been designated a World Congress of Families Special Event. This year's summit will feature some of the leading Black conservatives and Christian leaders from across the country, including Bishop Harry Jackson, Ken Blackwell, Day Gardner, Ben Kinchlow, Dr. Eric Wallace, Dean Nelson, Walter Hoye, Bishop E.W. Jackson, Former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint and U.S. Senate chaplain Barry Black. The event's theme is "Advancing Conservative Principles and Stemming the Liberal Tide: A Matter of Faith, Race and Politics."

Freedom's Journal Institute is devoted to research, education, and the advancement of public policy that promotes Responsible government, Individual liberty and fidelity, Strong family values, and Economic empowerment (R.I.S.E Principles) in the urban community from a biblical perspective. We believe that at no other time in American history has the fight to uphold our nation's founding principles required our undivided attention. WCF Managing Director Larry Jacobs stated: "We're honored to be involved with this historic conference, particularly because of its emphasis on the natural family." Organizers explain: "Both historical and biblical precedence bears witness to the fact that the 'natural family' is the foundation of our society."
RELATED: Last week the Illinois-based World Congress of Families held a conference at the Kremlin where it issued a call for more nations to criminalize homosexuality. Among those in attendance was NOM president Brian Brown.

Tony Perkins: Our Guy Never Said That Thing That He Totally Said On The Radio

"If you can't beat 'em, smear 'em. That seems to be Media Matters's far-Left M.O. for intimidating people who make compelling cases for conservatism. Its latest target? FRC's Ken Blackwell. In an interview last week, Ken talked about the latest shooting spree at the University of California and pointed back to the 'crumbling of the moral foundation of the country' as a contributing factor to the recent spate of violence. Media Matters, a pet project of multi-billionaire George Soros, went on the attack -- accusing Ken of blaming same-sex 'marriage' for the murders. TruthRevolt immediately fired back at the wild distortion: 'Blackwell never mentions same-sex marriage. Not once.' Once again, we see the Left twisting words in a debate that they can't win -- refusing to debate, and instead trying to silence the opposition. It's a systematic censorship without regard to the facts." - Hate group leader and compulsive liar Tony Perkins, via email.

FACT CHECK: As those who saw last week's JMG post know, Blackwell blamed the shooting on "the attack on natural marriage and the family." Talk about twisting words in a debate they can never win.  Here's the audio file again.

Headline Of The Day

The Nation today reports on the Conservative Action Project, which the New York Times yesterday declared to be the architects of the shutdown.
The Conservative Action Project [is] an ad hoc coalition created in the early years of the Obama administration to reorganize the conservative movement. The coalition is managed by Heritage and the Council for National Policy. The latter organization, dubbed once as “the most powerful conservative group you’ve never heard of,” is a thirty-year-old nonprofit dedicated to transforming the country into a more right-wing Christian society. Founded by Tim LaHaye, the Rapture-obsessed author of the “Left Behind” series, CNP is now run by Christian-right luminaries such as Phyllis Schlafly, Tony Perkins and Kenneth Blackwell.

Yesterday, The New York Times revealed in great detail how the Conservative Action Project has orchestrated the current showdown. The group initially floated the idea of attaching funding for Obamacare to the continuing resolution, and followed up with grassroots organizing, paid advertisements and a series of events designed to boost the message of senators like Ted Cruz. Though the Heritage Foundation, through its 501(c)(4) Heritage Action sister organization, has played a lead role in sponsoring advertisements and town-hall meetings, tax disclosures reviewed by TheNation.com show that the Council for National Policy has provided a steady stream of funding for the organizing effort.
I can see your shocked faces from here.  From yesterday's Times article:
The billionaire Koch brothers, Charles and David, have been deeply involved with financing the overall effort. A group linked to the Kochs, Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, disbursed more than $200 million last year to nonprofit organizations involved in the fight. Included was $5 million to Generation Opportunity, which created a buzz last month with an Internet advertisement showing a menacing Uncle Sam figure popping up between a woman’s legs during a gynecological exam.

The groups have also sought to pressure vulnerable Republican members of Congress with scorecards keeping track of their health care votes; have burned faux “Obamacare cards” on college campuses; and have distributed scripts for phone calls to Congressional offices, sample letters to editors and Twitter and Facebook offerings for followers to present as their own. One sample Twitter offering — “Obamacare is a train wreck” — is a common refrain for Speaker John A. Boehner.

Quote Of The Day - Ken Blackwell

"The Obama administration is lending support to Congress in an effort to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. The president, instead, is backing something called the 'Respect Marriage Act.' The latter measure, quite simply, would abolish marriage. While calling for 'respect' in the Orwellian sense, it would offer true marriage the same 'respect' President Obama showed to the body of Osama bin Laden-a hasty burial at sea after summarily being put to death." - Family Research Council senior asshat Ken Blackwell, writing for World Magazine.

According to Blackwell, the repeal of DOMA will absolutely lead to the legalization of polygamy. We know this because one time, three years ago, some law professor you've never heard of said that.

RELATED: Blackwell is the former mayor of Cincinnati and the former Ohio Secretary of State. In 2004 he led the successful effort to ban same-sex marriage in Ohio, an amendment championed by George W. Bush's campaign manager, Ken Mehlman. In 2006 he was the failed GOP candidate for Ohio governor. He is reportedly considering running for the U.S. Senate in 2012.

Ken Blackwell: Gays Suffer From Compulsion

Now that he's up for chairman of the Republican National Committee, an interview Ken Blackwell did with Michelangelo Signorile during last summer's convention is getting wide condemnation from progressives. According to Blackwell, even if he were gay, he would have been able to suppress that "compulsion."
Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, a leading candidate for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee (RNC), is coming under fire Monday for making remarks this summer that gays and lesbians suffer from a "compulsion" that can be "restrained."

"You can choose to restrain that compulsion," Blackwell told radio host Michelangelo Signorile, a gay and lesbian advocate, this summer during the Republican National Convention. "And so I think in fact you don't have to give in to the compulsion to be homosexual."

"I've never had to make the choice because I've never had the urge to be other than a heterosexual," Blackwell added, "but if in fact I had the urge to be something else I could have in fact suppressed that urge."

Another RNC chairman candidate, Chip Saltsman, saw his bid derailed after circulating a CD to RNC voters that critics said was racially insensitive toward President-elect Obama.
Go to Michelangelo Signorile's site to listen to an audio recording of the interview.
