Robert Oscar Lopez Has The Legatus Sadz

"Brett Baier and Gary Sinise were scheduled to deliver talks at a conference of Legatus. This is an association of Roman Catholic businessmen. Upon the provocation of 'Good as You,' a blog run by a catty gossip-hound and character assassin named Jeremy Hooper, Baier and Sinise withdrew from the conference.

"Despite all the drama-queenery, their pretext for pulling out of the event is laughable. Neither of them was expected to speak about homosexuality or endorse a view on the 'born gay' controversy. Legatus does many things other than argue with the gay lobby. The crux of the faux outrage rested on one other speaker, who is same-sex-attracted but Catholic and chooses not to have gay sex. Honestly, who cares?

"Does everyone who is same-sex-attracted have to engage in gay sex and announce as much at any gathering where one such person might be present? It seems pretty obvious that men who have sex with men are targeting a man who is attracted to men because the latter doesn’t do what the former tells him to do. Who appointed Jeremy Hooper the Grand Master of Gay? What about staying out of gay people’s bedrooms, including people who choose not to have gay sex in their bedrooms?" - Robert Oscar Lopez, in an American Thinker column tweeted out today by the editor of Legatus Magazine.

NOTE: As Jeremy Hooper observed on his site last week, he merely reported on the Legatus conference and its roster of speakers. He did not call for any cancellations or even ask his readers to contact the event's speakers.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: In September 2014 Lopez petitioned the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to stop gay marriage in Texas because he used to be a prostitute. In April 2014 Lopez filed an anti-gay amicus brief in support of Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage. Last March 2014 Lopez declared that gay men are turning surrogate mothers into breeding slaves. Last year, in addition to appearing on stage at an anti-gay Manif Pour Tous rally in France that was supported by neo-Nazis, Lopez testified against LGBT equality before several state legislatures and he co-signed an anti-gay homocon brief to the Supreme Court in support of DOMA. You really must read the Media Matters take on Lopez' trilogy of gay erotica.

Typepad reports that they are working on the problem again today and that some sites should be back up soon.  For those that have asked, this isn't an attack on LGBT blogs.

GLAAD Launches Campaign To Educate Media About Anti-Gay Hate Group Leaders

Today GLAAD announces the Commentator Accountability Project, a campaign to educate the nation's media gatekeepers about the histories of the hate group leaders and anti-gay talking heads that they place before the American audience. Fantastic idea!
Journalists or producers who are on deadline often don't have the time to dig into the histories of a commentator. Audiences need to be aware that when they’re not talking to the mainstream media, these voices are comparing the LGBT people to Nazi Germany, predicting that equal treatment of LGBT people will lead to the total collapse of society, and even making accusations of satanic influence. The Commentator Accountability Project is bringing all of these statements to light, while calling attention to the sentiments behind them. We will show that the commentators who are most often asked to opine on issues like marriage equality or non-discrimination protections do not accurately represent the "other side" of those issues. They represent nothing but extreme animus towards the entire LGBT community.
Regular JMG readers will be very familiar with almost all the faces of hatred and bigotry seen below. Please contact GLAAD if these people appear in your local media. Click on the photos to be taken to a page with information about each person.NOTE: Fellow blogger Jeremy Hooper of Good As You worked as a consultant with GLAAD on this project. Well done, Jeremy!

BREAKING: Major Defection At NOM, Top Organizer Now Supports Gay Marriage

Jeremy Hooper has a big scoop over at Good As You today, where he exclusively reports that a top organizer at NOM has announced that he now supports marriage equality. Louis Marinelli, known to some of us the virulently nasty moderator of NOM's Facebook page and the organizer of last year's laughably unattended national bus tour, tells Hooper all about his dramatic change of heart. An excerpt:
As a supporter of civil marriage equality, any statements I’ve made in the past about not recognizing homosexual relationships for one reason or another, of course it goes without saying that I no longer stand by these comments and I apologize for the insensitivity. Same-sex couples, whether they are married, in civil unions or domestic partnerships, ought to be recognized for what they are. I consider myself agnostic and while homosexual acts may very well be “immoral” in the eyes of Christian morality, I can no longer stand by any comments I’ve made in the past about the immorality of homosexuality.

There are a variety of different sets and sources of morals and no one has the right to impose their set on the rest of society. Once I wrote that homosexuals are deceitful people who care only about themselves or something to that effect. Honestly, aren’t we all? It was wrong for me to exclude everyone else from that description. We all lie and when it comes down to it, we will do what is best for ourselves. So throwing in a little levity, I stand by the comment but want to apologize for limiting its scope to the gay community.
Go and read the complete interview at Good As You, where Marinelli also denounces Paul Cameron and Peter LaBarbara. And now we wait to see if Maggie Gallagher and Brian Brown will have anything to say about this.......

UPDATE: The Human Rights Campaign reacts via press release:
“This defection is a good example of what is, and will continue to be consistent in the fight for equality,” said Kevin Nix, NOM Project Director for the Human Rights Campaign. “Once people actually meet LGBT people, they are more likely to support equality.” Marinelli did harm to the LGBT community. He was the strategist behind NOM’s multi-state 2010 Summer Bus Tour and a key digital strategist for the organization, writing things like, “Those who wish to promote homosexual behavior are encouraging people to shorten their life spans.” “Even NOM’s own people are having trouble with the organization’s unusual mission: to stop committed gay and lesbian couples from getting married,” Nix added. “We know such defections among more Americans, including NOM’s most strident supporters will continue over time.”

NOM Readies For Maryland Pushback

Eagle-eyed Jeremy Hooper at Good As You notes that NOM has registered the above domain, presumably as part of Prop 8-style petition drive to repeal marriage equality in Maryland, should that come to pass.

Family Research Council Calls For Hate Group Solidarity Against Filthy Queers

Over at Good As You, activist Jeremy Hooper has somehow uncovered a not-yet issued press release from the Family Research Council in which they call for the nation's anti-gay hate groups to stand in solidarity against the Southern Poverty Law Center's designations of anti-gay hate groups.

In today's second death-of-irony alert, the document is titled Start Debating: Stop Hating. Because according to the Family Research Council, we are the haters in this game.

The surest sign one is losing a debate is to resort to character assassination. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a liberal fundraising machine whose tactics have been condemned by observers across the political spectrum, is doing just that.

The group, which was once known for combating racial bigotry, is now attacking several groups that uphold Judeo-Christian moral views, including marriage as the union of a man and a woman. How does the SPLC attack? By labeling its opponents “hate groups.” No discussion. No consideration of the issues. No engagement. No debate

These type of slanderous tactics have been used against voters who signed petitions and voted for marriage amendments in all thirty states that have considered them, as well as against the millions of Americans who identify with the Tea Party movement. Some on the Left have even impugned the Manhattan Declaration-which upholds the sanctity of life, the value of traditional marriage and the fundamental right of religious freedom-as an anti-gay document and have forced its removal from general communications networks.

This is intolerance pure and simple. Elements of the radical Left are trying to shut down informed discussion of policy issues that are being considered by Congress, legislatures, and the courts. Tell the radical Left it is time to stop spreading hateful rhetoric attacking individuals and organizations merely for expressing ideas with which they disagree. Our debates can and must remain civil - but they must never be suppressed through personal assaults that aim only to malign an opponents character.

You can take action by adding your name to the following statement:

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women of America, National Organization for Marriage, Liberty Counsel and other pro-family organizations that are working to protect and promote natural marriage and family. We support the vigorous but responsible exercise of the First Amendment rights of free speech and religious liberty that are the birthright of all Americans.
Over at Right Wing Watch, People For The American Way reminds us exactly who the haters are with a link farm to recent statements by the above-listed groups.

NOM Thinks You're Mentally Ill

Good As You points out the above diatribe from NOM's Facebook moderator Louis Marinelli. So much for NOM's incessant protestations that they aren't anti-gay, that they totally respect LGBT people, etc etc.

Go to Jeremy Hooper's Good As You and read Ken Mehlman's enthusiastic endorsement of Rick Santorum in 2003. Mehlman's thumbs-up came shortly after Santorum's famous denouncement of Lawrence Vs. Texas in which he compared homosexuality to "man on dog" sex and incest.

NOM's Hate Bus Uses Fake Families

Good As You's ever-resourceful Jeremy Hooper has shown that the families depicted on the sides of NOM's Hate Bus don't actually exist, they're just actors ripped out of generic stock photos. We know NOM is having a hard time getting people to show up for the Hate Tour, but seriously, they couldn't find ONE real homo-hating family to pose for their bus?

Freep This Poll

UPDATE: The poll is open again.

Last week Good As You's Jeremy Hooper alerted GLAAD that a wedding contest planned for the Today Show would not allow entries from same-sex couples as the winners could not be legally married in New York, where the show is produced. Yesterday the show bowed to pressure from GLAAD and announced that the contest was now open to all couples, a decision that was met with many bigoted responses on the show's site. Today Yahoo News has posted the above poll. You know what to do.

Quote Of The Day - The Barefoot Bride

"I feel I would be remiss if I did not share my great disappointment with the current issue. As part of the large portion of the population who strongly believes marriage should be between one man and one woman, I was rather taken aback to see a homosexual wedding featured in the Winter 2010 issue. I may not always agree with the lifestyles and life choices made by all the people featured in every publication I read, but I do not appreciate picking up my favorite magazine to see photographs of homosexual couples being affectionate. For someone who believes that same-sex marriage is wrong, such articles and/or photos are offensive – and something I certainly would never knowingly pay money for." - Weddings blogger The Barefoot Bride, calling for a complaint campaign to Martha Stewart Weddings for including Good As You blogger Jeremy Hooper and his new husband in the current issue.

A visit to the Barefoot Bride's about page reveals that her fiance teaches ballroom dancing and just loves to read bridal magazines with her. OK, then. That's....interesting.

Good As You Busts Lying New Hampshire Marriage Poll

Last week the Cornerstone Research Policy claimed to have surveyed every single household in New Hampshire and found that 65% of the state's residents oppose same-sex marriage, a claim immediately adopted by Focus On The Family. Jeremy Hooper at Good As You found that claim extremely fishy and hounded the groups for the statistical backup. Yesterday FOF admitted to him that the story was FALSE. See their letter admitting such on Good As You. Jeremy exults:

So there you have it: An admission that CornerStone Policy Research, New Hampshire's leading anti-marriage group (with ties to NOM) is running a false claim. A claim they are still running on their website and that they have fed to local media outlets, without making note of any margin of error/unreported households. Gary is telling us that he has personnally confirmed it to be faulty! So let's see: That means CPR has both linked to a SPLC-certified hate group and run a deliberately false set of polling data, while our side has simply stated our deserved desire to have our loving monogamy as legally recognized as our heterosexual peers. Tough choice, huh Governor Lynch?

FOF tells him they plan to broadcast a "corrected story" today. Excellent job, Jeremy!
