Gay Univision Host Demands Reinstatment After Firing For Remarks About First Lady

Via the Wrap:
Rodner Figueroa, the fashion reporter for Univision’s “El Gordo y La Flaca,” who was fired for allegedly making disparaging comments about First Lady Michelle Obama on the air, is taking aim at his former employer. Or at least his famed Hollywood attorney, Marty Singer, is. In a scathing letter to Univision executives, Singer accuses the network of lying about the First Lady complaining about Figueroa’s comments, and says that Univision “falsely painted [Figueroa] as a racist.” The letter also demands that Univision reinstate Figueroa, who was fired earlier this month, and issue a public apology to him.

“I am writing regarding the outrageous tortious conduct of Univision Networks (‘Univision’), in which Univision defamed my client and falsely painted him as a racist, and publicly lied that the termination of his employment was at the request of the Office of the First Lady, Michelle Obama,” the letter, addressed to Univision Communications president and CEO Randy Falco, Univision Networks vice president Fabrizio Alcobe and others, reads. “Univision’s ignominious actions have caused irreparable injury to his reputation and career, for which the network will be held fully accountable.”
During a live segment about a make-up artist, Rodner had appeared to say that the First Lady looked like a character from Planet Of The Apes. Later that same day after his firing, he issued open letter to the First Lady in which he apologized for poorly chosen words which were "misunderstood."

Wingnuts: The First Lady Is Bald

An episode of Jeopardy has aired in which the First Lady participated in a video category about health eating. While she clearly had her hair pulled tightly and clasped at the back, wingnut sites are today calling her "bald." Because Benghazi, probably.

Gay Univision Host Fired Over Planet Of The Apes Comment About First Lady

Openly gay Univision TV host Rodner Figueroa was fired yesterday immediately after comparing Michelle Obama to a cast member of Planet Of The Apes during a live broadcast.
The Emmy-winning host was dismissed over the racist remark said during his live segment on the entertainment news show "El Gordo Y La Flaca," HuffPost Voces first reported. Univision confirmed the news via e-mail earlier today. Figueroa's comment came while talking about make-up artist Paolo Ballesteros' viral undertaking of transforming himself into female celebrities. The fashionista, known for his critical "Fashion Police"-style remarks, analyzed Ballesteros' transformation for Michelle Obama with an original photo of the first lady beside it. "Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of "Planet of the Apes," the film," Figueroa said. Host Raúl de Molina attempted to counter the comment saying he thought Obama was very attractive. The show aired live on the East Coast and was edited for the West Coast.
Figueroa has already been scrubbed from all of the Univision website. Later yesterday he published an apology in an open letter to the First Lady. An excerpt:
"I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and my comment wasn't directed personally to you, but to the characterization of the artist, that left a lot to be desired. The clip in full context is proof. I feel embarrased, I ask for forgiveness, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make those types of comments that can be interpreted as offensive and racist in a volatile moment that we live in our country. I take full responsibility for the lack of judgement in my part, but I can't accept that I am being called a racist, being fired for that reason and being humiliated by Univision after working there for 17 years. I come from a bi-racial Latin family, with family members, like my father, who is Afro-Latino. I am the first presenter on Hispanic TV that is openly gay and I am an activist for causes that favor minorities that have been discriminated against just like me. I openly voted twice for your husband Barack Obama, because I consider him a great man that respects minorities, like me, in this country."

Joan Rivers: Calling The First Lady A "Tranny" Was Actually A Compliment

"I think it's a compliment. She's so attractive, tall, with a beautiful body, great face, does great makeup. Take a look and go back to La Cage Au Follies (sic). The most gorgeous women are transgender. Stop it already ... and if you want to talk about 'politically correct,' I think this is a 'politically incorrect' attack on me because I'm old, Jewish, a woman and a 'hetty' -- a heteosexual ... and I plan to sue the reporter who, when he turned off his camera, tried to touch me inappropriately on the ass - luckily he hit my ankle. Read the book ... if you think that's silly, wait to (sic) you see what I say about FDR and Eleanor!" - Joan Rivers, in a statement sent to CNN.

FLOTUS Hints At Supporting Hillary

Via CNN:
Michelle Obama said Monday she's "definitely" not jumping into politics, but suggested the United States might not be too far away from having its first woman commander in chief. Asked at the Washington event if she would consider a political career once her husband leaves the White House in 2017, Mrs. Obama gave a flat no. But, she said, a woman president "should happen as soon as possible." "And I think this country is ready," she added. "The person who should do the job is the person who's the most qualified. And we have some options, don't we?" she said, stoking further speculation that Hillary Clinton could fill the role if she decides to run.
Teabagistan is screaming about anti-male sexism.

NBC Wonders: FLOTUS For Senate?

NBC Chicago ponders:
FLOTUS for Senate? It wasn't that long ago that such a slogan would seem absurd, but political wags are beginning to wonder whether Michelle Obama is mulling a run for Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk's seat in 2016. A Thursday column in Reuters suggests that Obama would be the only candidate with a large enough profile to unseat the Republican. It's not the first time Obama has been mentioned as a potential senatorial candidate, but that speculation has always focused beyond 2016. And the First Lady herself has never publicly indicated any interest in seeking political office. There's also that 2012 Public Polling Policy survey showing the first lady picking up 51 percent of the vote against Kirk's 40 percent if they were to run. Your move, FLOTUS.
From the Reuters article:
First Lady Michelle Obama is everywhere. She’s traveling to China. She’s raising money for Democrats. She’s issuing plaintive tweets seeking the rescue of the kidnapped Nigerian girls. She’s wading uncharacteristically deep into the Washington political mud pit to defend her school lunch program against Republicans, assailing them last Tuesday for opting to “play politics with our kids’ health.” She struck a similar tone in a New York Times op-ed two days later, accusing Republicans of trying to “override science” and suggesting they join parents and “put our children’s interests first.” So what’s with the bolder profile? Sure, Obama cares strongly about the things she is doing. That she does care in fact begs another question: Is caring all that’s going on here? Does she have political ambitions that would allow her to pursue an agenda while working to cement her husband’s legacy?

President Obama At The Nerd Prom

Last night the White House Correspondents Association celebrated its 100th anniversary at the annual dinner reporters refer to as the Nerd Prom. CBS News reports on the president's speech:
Basking in the liberation of never again facing reelection, Mr. Obama aimed squarely at several likely 2016 prospects. Simultaneously ribbing the New Jersey governor's ill-famed scandal on the George Washington Bridge and the bumper-to-bumper partisanship that's locked down Washington, D.C., since 2010, the president joked that gridlock "has gotten so bad in this town - you've got to wonder, 'What did we do to piss off Chris Christie so bad?'" He also took stabs at tea party favorite Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and the early Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton. "Let's face it, Fox, you will miss me when I'm gone," he said. "It will be harder to convince the American people that Hillary was born in Kenya." Chiming in one more dig to the cable network, he added: ''The Koch brothers bought a table here tonight, but as usual they used a shadowy right-wing organization as a front. Hello, Fox News!''
The clip below starts with a film starring Joe Biden, Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, and Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfuss.

Girl Gives First Lady Her Dad's Resume

Via the Washington Post:
A young girl who was a guest at the White House's annual "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" did her father a favor. She handed Michelle Obama his résumé. When Obama called on a girl, identified by the Associated Press as 10-year-old Charlotte Bell, during a question-and-answer session, the girl stood up and walked toward the first lady. "My dad's been out of a job for three years and I wanted to give you his résumé," Charlotte said. Obama seemed surprised, then invited the girl on stage and gave her a hug. "Oh my goodness," Obama said while hugging Charlotte.

Limbaugh: The First Lady Has A Fat Ass

"There is Michelle Obama and the $12,000 gown by Carolina Herrera, and the French president Hollande is in the middle, and there's Obama. You'll notice that this dress is bigger than the president of France. Here, let me make one more adjustment here and I'll show you this again. Take a look at that picture. The little guy in the middle is the socialist dictator -- well, not dictator. He's the socialist president of France. On the left, that's not Oprah. Don't confuse that. That's Michelle Obama. I saw a picture of this from the rear. That's why I thought it was Oprah. I did." - Rush Limbaugh, speaking today on his radio show.

RELATED: Limbaugh and the other baggers are also very upset that the Obamas are hosting a lavish state dinner while the president rails against income inequality. In fact, last night's was only the sixth state dinner of Obama's time in the White House.  Overlooked is the inconvenient fact that Ronald Reagan hosted 35 state dinners during his two terms. Bush I threw more than 20 in his single term.
