Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande Duet On Song For Cyrus' New LGBT Youth Group

To promote her new nonprofit benefiting homeless and LGBT youth, the Happy Hippie Foundation, Miley Cyrus has been partnering with other artists to cover pop classics in a series of “Backyard Sessions.” The latest is a cover of Crowded House’s mid-’80s hit “Don’t Dream It’s Over” with Ariana Grande, who—like Cyrus—spends the entire video lounging in an animal onesie. Unlike the luminous, poppy 2003 version by Sixpence None the Richer, the duo’s cover borders on bluesy, with occasionally twangy instrumentals. The acoustic setting complements Grande’s trademark indistinct elocution, which tends to get lost in more complex productions, while Cyrus shows off the lower end of her impressive range. And Cyrus—who, as usual, is “just being Miley”—makes things wonderfully awkward by flirting with Grande during the bridge.

Cyrus launched her organization after the suicide of transgender teen Leelah Alcorn.

NEW YORK: Gay Pol Thanks Miley Cyrus For Help With Homeless Youth Funding Bill

Openly gay New York Sen. Brad Hoylman today thanked pop star Miley Cyrus for helping win millions of dollars in state funding for homeless youth shelters. Via DNA Info:

The 2015 New York State Budget now has $4.5 million in funding for homeless youth shelters, the first significant increase in seven years — thanks to Miley Cyrus. State Sen. Brad Hoylman said credit for convincing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos to include the funding belongs to the "Wrecking Ball" singer. "I want to thank Miley Cyrus for her advocacy in helping raise awareness through our #5000TooMany social media campaign," Hoylman said in a statement. "Miley’s advocacy on behalf of homeless kids made a difference and is a perfect example how star power can be used to help others." Cyrus sent a letter to the Albany power trio a week ago urging them to include the funding in the budget.

State funding for homeless youth had been cut by two-thirds since 2008. The restored funding will reportedly pay for 1000 new shelter beds. The above-linked story does not specify how the new funding might be distributed to homeless LGBT youth services such as the Ali Forney Center.

Dominican Republic Bans Miley Cyrus Concert For Promoting Lesbian Sex

The National Commission for Public Performances in the Dominican Republic announced today that they were banning a September 13th Miley Cyrus concert for, among other things, promoting lesbian sex. "The National Commission for Public Performances in the exercise of the powers given by the Constitution of the Republic through Regulation 824 of Law Number 1951Article 4306 - the purpose of which is to prevent public performances that offend the morals, good customs and relationship between friendly countries - imposes this ban based on Miley Cyrus' common engagement in acts during her concerts that defy morals and customs in ways usually penalized by Dominican law," a statement reads. They add that Cyrus "uses inadequate attire, corrupts language, uses perverse imagery and phrasing, uses phrases with double meanings, glorifies crime, violence and denigrating acts against civility and promotes sex, lesbian sex and the use of inadequate objects in public."

Duque notes that homosexuality is not illegal in the island nation but there has been significant anti-gay sentiment from religious leaders following the appointment of a gay US ambassador.

ABC Pulls Ads From Perez Hilton Over Miley Cyrus Upskirt Post

ABC has yanked its banner ads from Perez Hilton's site after the gossip queen tweeted a photo of Miley Cyrus without underwear.

Perez Hilton, aka Mario Lavandeira, might not yet be facing legal action after tweeting a provocative picture of teen star Miley Cyrus, but he is facing repercussions from advertisers. A rep for ABC Daytime confirms that a rotating banner ad promoting “The View” was pulled from the celebrity blogger’s website, PerezHilton.com. At press time, earlier reports that MTV pulled ads for TV Land were confirmed to be untrue, but one well-placed source within ABC said that it’s not out of the realm of possibility that more advertisers could follow ABC’s lead.

Numerous Facebook groups have sprung up calling for a boycott of any company that advertises on Hilton's site.
