TONIGHT: Maggie Gallagher's Son Debuts New Song At NYC AIDS Fundraiser

Tonight Maggie Gallagher's eldest son Patrick will debut a song at an AIDS fundraiser at The Duplex, a gay cabaret and nightclub in Manhattan's West Village. For those unaware, Patrick says that he identifies as straight despite working in what is arguably the single gayest industry in the world. His Twitter profile reads: "Librettist, Lyricist. I love the Knicks, Stephen Sondheim, the Yankees, Breaking Bad and the Green Bay Packers with equal fervor. I don't fit in your box, man."

Our Time is a new works concert series created by Musically Human Theatre Productions Producing Artistic Director, David Norwood. The series offers emerging musical theatre composers the chance to showcase a variety of songs from different shows, as well as stand-alone songs that were not written with a particular show in mind. You haven't heard showtunes like these before. An exciting blend of Sondheim and Pop/Rock, this generation is truly taking the art of musical theatre to the next level. The concert is also a benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights Aids.

Patrick Gallagher's song writing partner performs regularly at Manhattan's gay piano bars such as Don't Tell Mama.For years some of us on this side of the screen have discussed the "Patrick situation" and wondered how his love for musical theater, where he lives and breathes in a virtually completely gay environment, may have helped create the creature that is his mother. Hell, he even once performed in the chorus for a West Village production of Sodom: The Musical, starring Village People member Randy Jones. (I inquired and Jones has no memory of Gallagher.)

Here's an excerpt from a 2011 story about Patrick:

Though Patrick doesn’t want to comment directly, it has become clear that his views differ from his mother’s. According to Patrick, Maggie has been very supportive of his career and has not obstructed her son’s goals and dreams – like a mother should. One thing Patrick did say, which I don’t think he’d mind sharing is “Maybe one day I’ll write a hell of a musical about this.” Patrick’s a good guy who doesn’t deserve to be in the middle of this – but we feel that his and Maggie’s story is an important one that demonstrates the strength of a “non-traditional” family.

The question remains: What, if any, responsibility does the LGBT activism world have to involve the innocent children of hate group leaders? Is this a "hands off" situation? Or do we throw Patrick in Maggie's face at every opportunity whether he's gay or not?

Syndicator Drops Maggie Gallagher's National Opinion Column

Universal Uclick has announced the "retirement" of Maggie Gallagher's nationally syndicated column.

Gallagher has been a nationally syndicated columnist for over 17 years; Universal Uclick launched her first column in June of 1995. She began publishing a column twice a week, but for the last three years has written a column once a week. Maggie is particularly known for writing about life, sex, babies, marriage, and culture--culture war topics but with a civility and grace that seeks to explain, not denounce. Universal picked up Maggieʼs column after she spent a year as a columnist (alternating with Rich Vigilante) for the now-defunct Manhattan edition of New York Newsday.

“When I first began this wonderful journey as a syndicated columnist, Sydney Callahan wrote to me to say, ʻThis wonʼt be forever, at some point you will start writing columns about your kittens, and you know it will be time to stop,” said Gallagher. “I havenʼt yet reached the kitten-inspiration point, but I felt it was time to end on a high note -- in particular to give myself time to write in longer format, to experiment with creative projects, and to use new media to reach my audience on a personal basis."

Fred Karger Demands: Maggie Gallagher, Where Is This Mysterious Never-Seen Husband You Claim To Have?

We were on MSNBC so she could try and defend the treasure trove of 'confidential' NOM documents that had just been uncovered as a result of the 2009 investigation that I got launched against NOM in Maine.

"Maggie and I were in separate studios although we met afterwards for this photo and a chance to visit. I asked Maggie if she was still living in New York, and she told me that she moved to Washington, DC nearly three years ago. What about her husband Roman Srivastav? Freedom To Marry's Evan Wolfson Wins Economist Debate With Maggie Gallagher

Freedom To Marry's Evan Wolfson has been named the winner of the weeklong online marriage equality debate with Maggie Gallagher at the Economist.

The votes are in and though the tally has fluctuated throughout the week, a steady majority of you are convinced that gay marriage should be legal. Congratulations to Evan Wolfson, who passionately defended the motion. He is your winner. Commiserations to Maggie Gallagher, whose losing argument still resonates with many Americans. In the end, our audience was not convinced that gay marriage would have a deleterious effect on society or heterosexual unions. Quite the opposite, in fact. Many of you noted the benefits marriage would bestow on gay couples and their families, while agreeing with Mr Wolfson's argument that "there is no good reason" for their exclusion. Marriage is as applicable to devoted gay couples as it is to their heterosexual counterparts, you concluded, and it is their right.

Maggie Gallagher To Defend Jewish "Ex-Gay" Group Against SPLC Lawsuit

A recently-formed legal group chaired by Maggie Gallagher announced today that they will defend the "ex-gay" Jewish group JONAH against the fraud lawsuit filed last month by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

JONAH is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that offers assistance to men and women seeking to resolve their sexual conflicts, including unwanted same sex attractions. JONAH has been unjustly sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) who claims that homosexuality is permanently fixed and that people cannot be helped in overcoming their unwanted same-sex attractions.

SPLC 's position is inconsistent with numerous scientific and medical opinions and studies, finding that sexual attraction is influenced by many factors, both environmental and biological. Even certain gay activist groups claim that sexual attractions can be fluid and change throughout people's lives. SPLC's allegations also ignore the thousands of people who have already benefitted from programs, such as those offered by JONAH and others, many of whom are now living their life long dreams, including traditional marriage and children.

The official launch of the Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund (FCDF) took place at the beautiful home of Claire Reiss in La Jolla, California on September 6, 2012. About 75 people gathered to hear various speakers—including chairperson Maggie Gallagher—who addressed the pressing need for the FCDF. FCDF’s president and chief counsel, Charles LiMandri, had previously attended a private summit on marriage and religious liberty in New York, which gathered together Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop-Elect Salvatore Cordileone, Princeton University’s Robbie George, the evangelical pastor Jim Garlow, and many others. At that summit, it quickly became clear that serious Catholics, Protestants, Jews, and Mormons all agree: if we do not halt the secular progressive agenda of harassment and intimidation of people of conscience, our children will not experience or enjoy the freedom and liberty that we have long known as Americans.

Maggie Gallagher Finally Responds To The Miss Ladyfingers USA Scandal

After weeks of shamed silence during which NOM scrubbed all mention of Carrie Prejean from their website, Maggie Gallagher has at last commented on the Miss Ladyfingers USA scandal in a column published on the wingnut site Townhall.

I hope young women watching learn something from Carrie's ordeal; ideally something like: Don't have sex with men who aren't willing to marry you. But if that is too elevated an ideal, try this one: Girls, don't send any pic to your boyfriend you don't want your mom or Matt Lauer to see. An embarrassed Carrie wasn't fully truthful about her private and personal life, which ended up making things more difficult for her. (Could any of those folks who defended Bill Clinton's right to commit perjury about sex please step up and say a kind word or two for Carrie?) [snip]

A few people have asked me if Carrie is now going to "stop" working for me. The truth is she doesn't work for NOM (National Organization for Marriage). We cut a TV ad without asking her approval using publicly available footage, and then we asked her to appear at a press conference to promote it. Out of the goodness of her heart she agreed, for which I remain grateful. I was asked to introduce her at several events, and I would do so again.

I really wanted Carrie to work for me because I believed she may have had a calling to help fight for the other Americans who believe as she does that marriage is the union of husband and wife. But Carrie did not want to be a crusader on the gay marriage issue, or the leader of a Christian youth movement. She just wanted to be a model, or an entertainer, or a sportscaster, or a news reader -- the kind of thing you'd imagine a 22-year-old beauty queen might dream about. I don't know why so many people are exulting over the idea they may have killed her young dreams.

Gallagher says she "doesn't understand the newsworthiness" of the sex tape scandal and that she hopes "the people gleeful about this attack are enjoying their pyrrhic victory." HAH. "Gleeful" is far too weak a word to describe how happy the Ladyfingers disaster has made us, Maggie.

Maggie Gallagher Defends The Benhams

"If the Benham brothers are able to survive and flourish as home building faith filled reality TV stars, the dark curtain will have lifted a bit. The future will look brighter, new possibilities will open up, whether it is on traditional existing media, or whether we begin to fund and create our own networks of communication. BREAKING: Nation's Most Infamous Anti-Gay Bigot Doesn't Like Being Called An Anti-Gay Bigot, It's Not "Neighborly"

NOM founder Maggie Gallagher thinks LGBT people are being just downright "unneighborly" when we vigorously protest our legalized oppression at the hands of the Christian right. Why, we should all be politely tipping our hats as Maggie sneers, "Shut up and eat your nothing!"

"Here's the truth: You will now be called a hater and a bigot merely for standing for marriage as one woman and one man. What do we make of this sad truth? So far, the bullies pay no price for their meanness and their rage. This is not an issue of free speech but of neighborliness. Fundamental decency requires that we treat each other with respect, especially when we disagree deeply on hot moral issues. Sadly, I've grown used to the reality that tolerance is now a one-way street for gay marriage advocates. It no longer matters how respectfully and civilly one makes the case for humanity's marriage tradition.

"So Fred Karger gets quoted in The Washington Post calling Brian Brown "just as shrill, just as anti-gay as any of the leading gay-bashers." Fred doesn't provide any examples because he can't. Fred doesn't have to. The Washington Post does not feel any obligation to ask Fred Karger for proof. Being pro-gay marriage, Fred doesn't need proof as he hurls his charges like brickbats at Americans who disagree with him. I know that not every gay person agrees with the tactics of hate currently employed by this powerful steamroller of a political movement to suppress dissent, just as I know some gay people don't support gay marriage. (Not many, but I've met 'em!) And I do know this: Bullies don't stop as long as bullying works. Gay marriage advocates have to rein in their movement, or people in Maine and elsewhere are going to draw the natural conclusion: When the law endorses gay marriage advocates like Fred Karger and their ideas, it will have consequences."

It's kinda fascinating that now that the WaPo ombudsman has stepped in to criticize its own lionizing of NOM's Brian Brown, Maggie Gallagher says that she knew all along that the first article was written by a liberal sympathizer of pro-marriage equality homofascists. But when the profile of Brown first came out, Maggie was over the moon, gushing in NOM's newsletter that "the Washington Post just nailed him!" Oh, sorry, Maggie. Was it unneighborly of me to point that out?

Maggie Gallagher Suffers Amnesia Regarding Mozilla Boycott Campaign

"Does a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness include people who oppose gay marriage? Not to many who are unequivocally insisting new Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich endorse gay marriage or be fired. Over at the appropriately named 'CREDO' action website, more than 65,000 have signed their names to this call for conformity and exclusiveness, or else. Eich gave money to the Proposition 8 campaign and now joins a growing number of people who face threats to their livelihoods unless they support gay marriage." - Maggie Gallagher, writing for the National Review.

Amnesiac Maggie doesn't seem to remember that one week ago today dozens of leading evangelicals threatened the livelihood of World Vision's CEO when he (briefly) agreed to hire legally married gay people. Also wiped from Maggie's mental hard drive are memories of the Christian calls to boycott Chick-Fil-A that erupted earlier this month when CEO Dan Cathy announced that he was shutting up forever about gay marriage. Gone too, apparently, are any recollections from just a couple of weeks ago when pretty much every leading anti-gay crackpot called for a boycott of Guinness beer. Those frantic emails from One Million Moms with their literally weekly demands to boycott everything from snack products to salad dressing? Deleted. Didn't happen. Perhaps most interesting is that Maggie's convenient amnesia has also fogged over the fact that the very organization she once headed is still calling for boycotts of Starbucks and General Mills.

REMINDER: When anti-gay and Christian groups call for nationwide boycotts, that is a righteous use of the free market in order to preserve morality, marriage, family, and the American way. But when LGBT groups or citizens use or threaten the use of a boycott, THAT is homofascist intimidation, intolerance, bullying, a stifling of religious liberty, and an attempt to deny the freedom of speech. And don't you forget it.

We can stop our chortling, Maggie Gallagher did NOT flake on her interview. MSNBC host Thomas Roberts just tweeted:

After plugging the interview several times this morning, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts just showed the above empty Seattle studio and said, "This empty studio chair was supposed to hold Maggie Gallagher, former president and co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage. But as you can see she is missing in action, although we did confirm an hour ago that she would be in that studio. I would say, 'Hello Maggie," but you're not there."

Maggie Gallagher Backs "Ex-Gay" Group

"Chuck Limandri, my old friend from the Carrie Prejean, Prop 8 fights, is a heckuva a lawyer and one brave man. He’s taking on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s massive legal machine to defend the right of Jewish gay people to seek help. SPLC is using consumer-fraud laws to try to bankrupt these small nonprofits and if it wins this case has announced plans to take it nationwide against 70 groups offering some form of sexual-orientation-change efforts. FACT CHECK: The SPLC's suit against JONAH is hardly "flying under all media radar screens." It has been reported upon by dozens of new sites, by all the major dailies in New Jersey (where the case was filed), and by virtually every major LGBT news blog in the nation. The case has been mentioned here on JMG over a dozen times since the suit was filed in November 2012.

NOM usually deletes my comments from their blog, but Maggie Gallagher yesterday responded to my comment on their post congratulating Miss Ladyfingers USA on the birth of her baby. Gallagher may claim to have "never backed away" from Ladyfingers, but those of us who monitored their website daily at the time noted the complete scrubbing of all previous mentions of Prejean.

Maggie Gallagher: We'll Lose On DOMA

"To strike down Prop 8 on 'narrow grounds' proposed by the 9th Circuit is so intellectually dishonest that if that is what the Court wished to do I think they would have refused to hear the case. I think Kennedy will overturn DOMA (perhaps joined by Roberts) and then uphold the right of states to refuse to accept gay marriage (i.e. uphold Prop 8). The victories this November for gay marriage at the polls make that outcome more likely. NOM has released a new ad to be aired in Albany and NYC. The clip hits the same tired Prop 8 moments, including the school kids who attended their teacher's wedding and Gavin Newsom's "like it or not" quote. Note the African-American announcer.

The group said it hopes the commercial, which is intended to raise doubts about an argument made by advocates for same-sex marriage — that allowing gay couples to marry is simply a matter of fairness and equality — will give opponents a louder voice in a debate that has been dominated by the other side. “We need to combat the relative vacuum on our side,” Maggie Gallagher, the founder of the National Organization for Marriage, said in an interview on Wednesday. “This message is that gay marriage will have consequences. Maggie Gallagher Begs GOP Presidential Candidates To Speak Out On Indiana

Gallagher is totally right about the importance of Indiana. The way this battle shakes out will surely lay the groundwork for for the next stage of our movement in a post-marriage equality nation.

CNN: Michelangelo Signorile Debates Maggie Gallagher On Marriage Equality

Michelangelo Signorile did a great job against the detestable Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage on CNN yesterday after the national rallies. Gallagher is pissed that gays are using the public record of those who donated to support Prop 8 to shame them.
