Maggie Gallagher Backs "Ex-Gay" Group

"Chuck Limandri, my old friend from the Carrie Prejean, Prop 8 fights, is a heckuva a lawyer and one brave man. He’s taking on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s massive legal machine to defend the right of Jewish gay people to seek help. SPLC is using consumer-fraud laws to try to bankrupt these small nonprofits and if it wins this case has announced plans to take it nationwide against 70 groups offering some form of sexual-orientation-change efforts. They must not want publicity because this landmark case is flying under all media radar screens." - Maggie Gallagher, writing for the National Review. (Tipped by JMG reader Andre)

FACT CHECK: The SPLC's suit against JONAH is hardly "flying under all media radar screens." It has been reported upon by dozens of new sites, by all the major dailies in New Jersey (where the case was filed), and by virtually every major LGBT news blog in the nation. The case has been mentioned here on JMG over a dozen times since the suit was filed in November 2012.

RELATED: In December last year, Gallagher announced the formation of the above-mentioned Limandri group. She is the chairman of their board of directors.

NOM Wanted Glamorous Unintelligent Celebrities As Spokespersons

GLAAD points out this tidbit from NOM's secret documents:
"Hollywood with its cultural biases is far bigger than we can hope to be. We recognize this. But we also recognize the opportunity - the disproportionate potential impact of proactively seeking to gather and connect a community of artists, athletes, writers, beauty queens and other glamorous non-cognitive elites across national boundaries. (This is applying the Witherspoon and IAV model to non-intellectual elites.)"
Remind you of anyone?

Today In Mildly Interesting Trivia

After more than two years, Ladyfingers has finally been dethroned as the #1 search item that brings folks to JMG. At least for the last 30 days, anyway. Also: Jeff Conaway?

Maggie Gallagher: I Still Love Ladyfingers

NOM usually deletes my comments from their blog, but Maggie Gallagher yesterday responded to my comment on their post congratulating Miss Ladyfingers USA on the birth of her baby. Gallagher may claim to have "never backed away" from Ladyfingers, but those of us who monitored their website daily at the time noted the complete scrubbing of all previous mentions of Prejean.

NOM To Sue Over Ladyfingers?

When Carrie "Ladyfingers" Prejean was busted for homemade porn videos in which she explored her tingly no-no parts, NOM burned rubber in distancing themselves from their former hero. However Michael Musto today reports an interesting development.
Well, outside Sister Act last night, a guy approached me and said, "Hi, Michael, I'm Keith Lewis from the Miss California USA pageant." "Oh, you're the one who ripped the crown off Carrie," I noted, grinning. "Congrats!" "Well, now we're being sued by NOM," he informed me, meaning the National Organization for Marriage group that Carrie had been a spokesperson for. The suit has something to do with NOM accusing the pageant of releasing damaging (i.e. true) info about Carrie, as opposed to the press having dug it up by itself. "Huh?" I screeched. "NOM is suing you? But NOM fired Carrie too!" "Well" said Lewis, "nowadays people can do just about anything."

Christine O'Donnell: Homosexuals Are Psychologically Defective

In 2006 Delaware GOP Senate candidate told a reporter, "People are created in God's image. Homosexuality is an identity adopted through societal factors. It's an identity disorder." The Washington Post reacts:
O'Donnell's suggestion that gays suffer from a psychological disorder is far worse than other comments about gays that have already gotten media attention, such as her claim that the government spent too much on AIDS and her insistence that "gays get away with so much." Also: Last week O'Donnell insisted that her rigid moralistic views represent long-ago youthful excesses. But as late as 2006, she was apparently still suggesting that gays are suffering from some sort of mental illness that has caused them to stray from God's "image." Indeed, this would appear to put O'Donnell squarely in the camp of those who liken homsexuality to pedophilia and bestiality.
This is the person that the Quislings at GOProud want to see in the federal government.

Andrew Sullivan On Christine O'Donnell

"A mischievous thought: when will someone ask O'Donnell, as a single woman, if, since her conversion to Catholicism, she has ever masturbated? She cannot have had any sex, right? And that includes sex alone. Since she has made this a public stance, and since, apparently, she cannot lie (even if it would mean handing over Jews to Nazis), she has made the question perfectly legit." - Andrew Sullivan on Christine O'Donnell, who has said if she knew where the Jews were hiding and the Nazis asked, she'd have to tell them because she cannot tell a lie.

Miss Ladyfingers USA To Get Opposite Married In Gay-Boycotted Hotel

Tomorrow Carrie Ladyfingers Prejean will opposite marry NFL quarterback Kyle Boller in San Diego. And in a deliberate final "fuck you" to the gays, she's booked the wedding at Doug Manchester's Grand Del Mar Hotel. Manchester's hotels have been boycotted and picketed by gays and gay-friendly organizations ever since it was revealed that he contributed more than $125,000 to Protect Marriage. Manchester has tried to end the boycott, which has cost him millions in convention business, by offering free rooms and meeting space to LGBT groups, all of whom have refused. Last August, Doug "Sanctity of Marriage" Manchester ditched his wife of 43 years in an ugly divorce that included accusations that he forged her endorsement on an $8.2M tax refund check.

Ladyfingers USA Sued For Never Paying Her Christian PR Firm

Miss Ladyfingers USA is being sued by the Christian publicity firm that guided her to wingnut stardom. Carrie not only hates the gays, she hates paying her bills.
The group -- A. Larry Ross Communications -- claims Prejean contacted them back in April, 2009 and logged "hundreds of hours" helping Prejean spread her "biblically correct" message. But according to the lawsuit, filed earlier this month in Texas, Prejean's actions were the opposite of Christian -- because she never paid the $64,857 bill.
According to the PR firm's website, they assist "Christian-focused organizations, associations, ministries and churches in telling their stories through the Christian and secular media in the context of traditional news values." They also claim to specialize in "crisis communications." We all know what THAT means.

PhoboQuotable - Slaggie Gilamonster

"In the spring of 2009, a few states moved to gay marriage and public opinion seemed to shift abruptly in gay marriage's favor. But by May of that year, support for gay marriage just as abruptly tumbled. Why?

"I believe I was the first person, in the National Review cover story The Carrie Effect, to publicly credit the impact of Carrie Prejean. Pre-Carrie, even most conservative media outlets avoided gay marriage. Carrie gave Fox News and major radio talk show hosts a vehicle for talking about the issue that they understood and liked. The general public was exposed to the truth that the majority continue to oppose gay marriage and that gay marriage advocates are not about tolerance but about imposing their views and punishing dissent, I argued. [snip]

"How can one beautiful young woman make such an outsized difference? It's because gay marriage advocates are no longer persuading people they are right on marriage; they are suppressing the expression of opposing opinions by raising the cost of speaking up in favor of marriage, while at the same time attempting to make Americans believe that gay marriage won't have any consequences. Carrie's ordeal made the first process visible and the second idea hard to swallow." - Maggie Gallagher, citing a pollster's claim that public support for marriage equality nosedived during the Miss Ladyfingers USA controversy.

Gallagher notes parenthetically that the same pollster says public support for marriage equality has since returned to pre-Ladyfingers level, which, of course, shoots down the premise for her entire column. But logic has never been Maggie's strong suit. Nor is the truth, for she makes no mention of her furious backpedaling from Prejean during the sex tape scandal, during which all mention of Miss Ladyfingers magically vanished from NOM's website.

PhoboQuotable - Lauren Ashley

"The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus, it says, 'If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.' The Bible is pretty black and white. I feel like God himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that's a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life." - Miss Beverly Hills 2010, Lauren Ashley, going one step further than her hero Miss Ladyfingers USA. Ashley will compete in Miss California USA later this year.

(Via - Boy Culture)

UPDATE: The city of Beverly Hills is disavowing any relationship to the pageant that crowned Lauren Ashley, who is a resident of Pasadena. City leaders further denounced her position on gays and said they are looking into blocking the pageant from using their name in future contests.

Carrie Prejean's Christian Reputation Does Not Permit Midnight Club Appearances

"We are not completely certain that we want her in a nightclub setting at the hours specified in the contract. As you can understand, this is in direct conflict with who she is. Her reputation as a Christian is more important than any public appearance attention or monetary compensation." - Francine Prejean, explaining why her daughter, Miss Ladyfingers USA, will not fulfill her $15K appearance contract with Foxwoods Casino.

Quote Of The Day - Billy Arnone

"If they were put in front of me I’d probably watch it." - Billy Arnone, the brother of Miss Ladyfingers USA, telling Radar Online that he'd watch her sex tape. What IS it with that family? (And note Billy's "Loose Lips" t-shirt.) He goes on to slam same-sex unions, saying, "I’m all the way against gay marriage. I don’t feel that it’s right that a man and a man should raise a kid. That’s just how I was raised and how Carrie was raised. We’ll stick by that ‘til the day we die." So hate IS a family value.

Maggie Gallagher Finally Responds To The Miss Ladyfingers USA Scandal

After weeks of shamed silence during which NOM scrubbed all mention of Carrie Prejean from their website, Maggie Gallagher has at last commented on the Miss Ladyfingers USA scandal in a column published on the wingnut site Townhall.
I hope young women watching learn something from Carrie's ordeal; ideally something like: Don't have sex with men who aren't willing to marry you. But if that is too elevated an ideal, try this one: Girls, don't send any pic to your boyfriend you don't want your mom or Matt Lauer to see. An embarrassed Carrie wasn't fully truthful about her private and personal life, which ended up making things more difficult for her. (Could any of those folks who defended Bill Clinton's right to commit perjury about sex please step up and say a kind word or two for Carrie?) [snip]

A few people have asked me if Carrie is now going to "stop" working for me. The truth is she doesn't work for NOM (National Organization for Marriage). We cut a TV ad without asking her approval using publicly available footage, and then we asked her to appear at a press conference to promote it. Out of the goodness of her heart she agreed, for which I remain grateful. I was asked to introduce her at several events, and I would do so again.

I really wanted Carrie to work for me because I believed she may have had a calling to help fight for the other Americans who believe as she does that marriage is the union of husband and wife. But Carrie did not want to be a crusader on the gay marriage issue, or the leader of a Christian youth movement. She just wanted to be a model, or an entertainer, or a sportscaster, or a news reader -- the kind of thing you'd imagine a 22-year-old beauty queen might dream about. I don't know why so many people are exulting over the idea they may have killed her young dreams.
Gallagher says she "doesn't understand the newsworthiness" of the sex tape scandal and that she hopes "the people gleeful about this attack are enjoying their pyrrhic victory." HAH. "Gleeful" is far too weak a word to describe how happy the Ladyfingers disaster has made us, Maggie.

Quote Of The Day - Donald Trump

"Maybe she should become a major porn star, make millions of dollars, and give it to worthy causes." - Donald Trump, reporting that Carrie Prejean has been calling him for advice on her post-sex tape career. Earlier this week porn giant Vivid Entertainment sent Prejean a letter advising that she "could certainly make millions" if she made a sex flick for them.
