Jay Leno Says Goodbye

The Tea Party won't like this part: “People say to me, ‘Why didn’t you go to ABC, to Fox?’ I don’t know anybody over there. These are the only people I have ever known. I’m also proud to say, this is a union show. And I have never worked with a more professional group of people in my life. They get paid good money and they do a good job.”

Obama On Russia: I Have No Patience For Countries That Treat LGBT People Badly

Last night President Obama made a lengthy appearance on the Tonight Show, where Jay Leno brought up the subject of Russia's crackdown on LGBT people.
Jay Leno also brought up the recent crackdown on gays in Russia, comparing the country’s treatment of homosexuality to the way Nazi Germany persecuted Jews. President Obama said he has “no patience for countries that try to treat gays or lesbians or transgender persons in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them.”

“I think Putin and Russia have a big stake in making sure that the Olympics work, and I think that they understand that for most of the countries that participate in the Olympics we wouldn’t tolerate gays and lesbians being treated differently. They are athletes. They are there to compete.”

Russia has said that the anti-gay laws will be enforced during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, which have sparked protests and demonstrations for boycotting the Sochi Olympics. “If Russia wants to uphold the Olympic spirit, then every judgment should be made on the track or in the swimming pool or on the balance beam and people’s sexual orientation shouldn’t have anything to do with it,” Obama said Tuesday evening.
NBC has posted the full appearance in several clips.

Seth Myers To Succeed Jimmy Fallon

SNL's Seth Myers will take over for Jimmy Fallon as the host of Late Night when Fallon replaces Jay Leno on The Tonight Show early next year.
"Late Night with Seth Meyers" will be shot at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, with Lorne Michaels serving as executive producer and with Michael Shoemaker remaining as producer. "Since 1982, there have been three 'Late Night' hosts starting with David Letterman, and Seth couldn't be in better company," states Lorne Michaels. Meyers is currently ending his 12th season on "Saturday Night Live" and his eighth season as head writer. He won a Emmy in 2011 as one of the writers of Justin Timberlake's musical monologue and was nominated in the same category last year. In his seventh year as Weekend Update host, Meyers has five additional Emmy nominations for writing.

Leno Rips On Dr. George Rekers

The Rekers hooker scandal made Jay Leno's opening monologue last night. Start the below full episode clip at 7:00 for the zingers. Of course, Leno couldn't exit the bit without trading homophobic jibes with his band leader over which of them would be visiting Rentboy.com after the show.

Tweet Of The Day - Conan O'Brien

After the debacle that was his exit from NBC, Conan O'Brien has landed a new late night show at TBS.
The Turner Entertainment president, Steve Koonin, laid out the network’s offer to give Mr. O’Brien a show at 11 p.m. weeknights, but Mr. Polone said that the Conan side had an immediate reaction: “You guys already have an 11 p.m. show.” He was referring to the current 11 p.m. late-night show on TBS, hosted by comedian George Lopez. Mr. Polone said that Mr. Koonin told him everything had been worked out and that Mr. Lopez had agreed to slide his show back to midnight to make room for Mr. O’Brien. But that script was awfully familiar to the Conan O’Brien side. “That sounded very similar to Jeff Gaspin coming to Conan and asking him to move back to midnight to make room for Jay,” Mr. Polone said.
O'Brien agreed to the new gig only after Lopez called him personally to endorse the move of his own show.

Quote Of The Day - Conan O'Brien

"When I was a little boy, I remember watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and thinking 'Someday, I’m going to host that show for 7 months.' - Conan O'Brien, who yesterday rejected NBC's plan to delay his show for thirty minutes so that Jay Leno can return to late night at 11:30pm. Both Fox and ABC are said to be considering an offer to O'Brien. In ABC's case, such a deal could mean the end of the long-running Nightline, which got its start during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979.

McCain On Leno

John McCain appeared on The Tonight Show last night, walking out to a standing ovation from the audience. Leno had opened with a monologue litany of old man jokes and McCain continued with jokes of his own. "My security number is 8." As always, McCain is smooth and charming and gets some deserved laughs when he offers his VP slot to Leno. In Part 2, McCain predictably launches into the tired "Noun, verb, POW" theme. What worries me the most about McCain is how damned likeable he can seem. The majority of American voters probably only have a faint idea of what McCain's party stands for, they only see the smiling soft-spoken nice guy.

Jay Leno Comes Out
(In Support of Gay Marriage)

Perhaps as penance for his recent "gay face" controversy, Tonight Show host Jay Leno will appear at a gay marriage rally at a West Hollywood gay bar tonight.
Jay Leno will be among the boldfaced names at a gay marriage celebration and rally tomorrow night at the Abbey in West Hollywood. T.R. Knight will join the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s Judy Shepard and Love and Pride jewelry designer Udi Behr for a group wedding of gay and lesbian couples at the landmark gay pub on Robertson Boulevard.

The Tonight Show host decided to make an appearance in support of the recent legalization of gay marriage by California’s Supreme Court. “He said that he is from Massachusetts and that the sky did not fall in their state when marriage equality became the law of the land there," a rep for the event said. "He wants to impress upon everyone here in California that the sky will not fall here either.” The event will also encourage people to vote "no" on the upcoming ballot initiative that would reverse the court's decision.
Has any Hollywood celebrity come out against gay marriage? Would they dare?

UPDATE: Via Towleroad, here's Leno signing the pledge to support gay marriage.
