Fox News Site Labels Westboro Baptist Church As A "Left-Wing Cult"

John Aravosis writes: "This is how Fox News operates. You can argue that MSNBC has a bias, and the network does – now, and in response to Fox. But while MSNBC has a liberal bias, Fox just lies."

Fox Reporter Slugged At MI Union Protest

The wingnut blogosphere is going nuts tonight after Fox News reporter Steven Crowder posted the below video in which he is punched several times by a pro-union protester outside the Michigan capitol building. (The above screen-cap is from Breitbart.)  In the clip, take note of the jump-cut at 38 seconds which immediately precedes the punching.  Commenters on even some of the right wing sites are wondering what came before that edit.  You might also wonder why an alleged reporter would wade into an angry crowd and start shouting at them. Answer: To get exactly the reaction he did. Note the self-satisfied smirk as the clip ends.

Newsweek: Heaven Is Real

The Friendly Atheist rolls his eyes:
This is what it boils down to: He’s a doctor. Colton Burpo (the subject of the similar, bestselling Heaven is for Real) was 4 when he “experienced Heaven.” But they’re practically saying the same thing. You get the feeling an agent somewhere was thinking, “If the American public fell for what a four-year-old boy said, just think of what’ll happen when a doctor says it!” But a fancy title doesn’t mean we should believe everything the person says. Doctors can be wrong, Presidents can be wrong, and we all know Pastors can be wrong. Just because you have an honorific in front of your name doesn’t mean you automatically deserve respect.

Fox News Spent The Day Lying

All morning today Fox News used a 2009 photo to claim that the president met with a pirate yesterday rather than address the Middle East situation with the prime minister of Israel. Obama posed for the photo three years ago as part of a joke sequence for that year's White House Press Correspondents Dinner, which, of course, was attended by Fox News. Yesterday the Obama campaign tweeted the photo as a "Talk Like A Pirate Day" joke with the caption: "Arrrr You In?"  Fox's story rocketed around the internet courtesy of closeted homosexual Matt Drudge. Fox finally tweeted a "correction" this afternoon.

NO BIG DEAL: Students Rally Around Suspended "Gay Porn" Teacher

The above tweet is a sample of student sentiment regarding the outing and suspension of a Boston-area English teacher after he was ambushed by Fox News for having performed in gay porn videos. Mediabistro reports:
Students at a top-rated Massachusetts public high school are blasting WFXT and investigative reporter Mike Beaudet for confronting a teacher about his apparent porn star past. [snip] Since the story first aired, Beaudet and WFXT have been heavily criticized by students at the school, who have banded together in support of Hogan. On Twitter, Beaudet asked Mystic Valley students for their response to his story. Another student tweeted at Beaudet: “Hogan is the best thing that has happened to my crew team. Students now have more respect for him due to what you did #thanks” “It’s not like he was doing anything illegal,” one student tweeted, “he shouldn’t get fired.” “Reporters are so fucking annoying,” tweeted another student.
The kids are alright.

Lying Liars At Fox News Reverse Gallup Poll Result On Collective Bargaining

Media Matters quotes the actual poll:
Americans strongly oppose laws taking away the collective bargaining power of public employee unions, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll. The poll found 61% would oppose a law in their state similar to such a proposal in Wisconsin, compared with 33% who would favor such a law. Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Republican legislators in Wisconsin have proposed cutting union rights for most state government workers and making them pay more for benefits. Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, Iowa and other states with Republican governors are considering similar laws.
Don't expect Fox to issue a retraction.

UPDATE: Media Matters has updated their above-linked post to note that Fox DID retract the above graphic. I'm shocked, truly.

Fox Interupts Egypt Coverage For Infomercial With Rupert Murdoch

Think Progress:
At 11:00 AM Eastern Time, while MSNBC and CNN ran breaking news alerts and reported live from Cairo, Fox and Fox Business reported live from the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan to bring viewers the unveiling ceremony for News Corp latest product, an iPad newspaper called “The Daily.” Fox News aired a full half hour of the promotional event, featuring NewsCorp chairman Rupert Murdoch giving a hard sell of his latest media foray. At 11:30, Fox returned to its news converge of the winter storm devastating the Midwest, only to interrupt its programming once again a half hour later for a lengthy interview with Murdoch.

LAS VEGAS: Netroots Nation 2010

Next week I'll be in the company of thousands of fellow bloggers and journalists for Netroots Nation, the annual liberal confab originally created by the writers of Daily Kos and now sponsored by the nation's largest labor unions and major outfits like the ACLU, Media Matters, Move On, and the Democratic National Committee. Major Democratic players tend to show up, so hopefully I'll be able to corner a few for JMG soundbites.

Things get rolling a day early for the queer contingent with the LGBT & Allies pre-convention day on Tuesday. After that it's five days of "hundreds of panels, roundtables, training sessions, workshops and keynotes" to choose from. (I'm trying to sort through the ones I'm most interested in, but as these things go, the times often conflict.) Obviously, JMG blogging volume will be down somewhat, but I'll do my best to get out at least a dozen posts each day during the breaks.

Las Vegas peeps: Where are we meeting for drinkies?
