TEXAS: Petition To Repeal Plano LGBT Rights Ordinance Ruled Totally Invalid

From the Dallas Morning News:
A Plano petition drive aimed at the city’s LGBT ordinance is invalid, the city has announced. Last month, opponents of the city’s Equal Rights Ordinance say they turned in petitions containing more than the 3822 signatures required to force the City Council to repeal the measure or put it on the ballot.

Plano officials say the petition contained false information about the ordinance, claiming that it regulates bathrooms. “By making this false representation, the Equal Rights petition asked signees to repeal an ordinance that does not exist,” according to a statement issued by the city.

The petitions did not include a copy of the ordinance, as required by the City Charter, and did not include a a column for the county of voter registration, as required by the Texas Election Code, according to the city. Plano officials say they sent an email to the organizing groups prior to their deadline to inform them of some of the problems, with links to the appropriate websites.
BOOM. Read the full statement from the city.

Victoria Jackson: Obama = Hitler

World Net Daily today runs an editorial from former SNL cast member Victoria Jackson, who says that the president is exactly like Hitler. And he's going to kill you.
Hitler, like Obama, was a "socialist" who came from a dysfunctional family, had a communist father who abused alcohol, womanized and sired several children from different mothers, had a white mother, suffered child abuse and neglect, moved often, lied about his birth and heritage, changed his name, was a narcissist, rose to power with the help of disreputable men, had the Rothschilds as financial backers, stirred up racial conflict and class warfare, wrote a biography about race at age 35, followed up with another book used to launch a political career, supported infanticide (partial-birth abortion), gave big speeches in stadiums, promised change and a new social order, had youth groups singing his praises, used propaganda, used voter fraud and intimidation, controlled the media, created "crises," used a poor economy, hated Jews (Israel), pretended to be "Christian," advocated population control and euthanasia, socialized medicine, formed a private army and then … killed his political opposition with his private army. Well, I am Obama's political opposition. That's why I am concerned.

Rick Santorum Defends The Crusades

“The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical. And that is what the perception is by the American left who hates Christendom. They hate Western civilization at the core. That's the problem." - Former Sen. Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum, who says that Christians have never persecuted Muslims.

Teabaggers Claim Obama Commanded Applause At Tucson Memorial

Over the weekend reichwing and widely-read Tea Party bloggers began claiming that the reason we heard so much applause at the memorial for Tucson's shooting victims is because audience members were "commanded" to do so by the arena's Jumbotron, which, of course, was secretly being run by the Obama administration. In fact, the Jumbotron operator was live-captioning the event for hearing-impaired members of the audience. Parenthetical notations like "(applause)" and "(music)" are always used when such moments occur. The bloggers in question know this, but continue their shameless campaign.

American Family Association's OneNewsNow Falls For Divorce Ban Parody

Remember back in September when i told you about John Marcott's hilarious plan to have divorce banned in California? Marcotte's Rescue Marriage site has the tagline ""You said 'til death do us part.' You're not dead yet" which should have given it away to the American Family Association's OneNewsNow:
The traditional marriage advocate points to the Bible as validating marriage and providing limited reasons for divorce. "It's a little difficult to translate God's law into the law of a secular state, so I think this is about as close as we can come without probably running into some constitutional issues," Marcotte explains. He adds that media attention has helped get the message out, and that people are talking more about the issue. His hope is that the growing discussion will translate into enough petition signatures for a 2010 ballot. His group has organized "The Wedding March on the Capitol" on Saturday (Nov. 14), and has also established a Facebook fan page that has attracted more than 9,000 fans.
Hah!

NY Sen. Thomas Duane: Forget About Marriage Equality For Now

The office of openly gay New York state Sen. Thomas Duane sends this message via email:
“The month long stalemate in the Senate has ended. I am pleased that the Democratic Conference remains, as they were elected to be, in the majority. It is now time for the Senate to get back to work. The June 8th coup was a painful and disturbing moment in the history of the Senate. Members’ emotions are raw, feelings are hurt and trust is lost. It will take time for these wounds to heal. As a result, I expect that the Senate this week will pass only time-sensitive, non-controversial legislation.”

“As disappointing as it is to admit, it is clear that this week is not the right moment for same-sex marriage legislation. Senators need some time and distance to regroup after this month’s partisan-charged and explosive atmosphere. Before June 8th, Senators from both sides of the aisle committed to me that they would vote for marriage equality. I still believe this to be the case. However, as I have said many times this session, I will not gamble when civil rights are at stake. If this means a short delay in order for marriage to become law it is well worth the wait.”

“I will not be put off for long. I am 100% committed to passing legislation crucial to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Our safety and civil rights must be enshrined into law. During the weeks and months ahead the Senate will be called back to Albany to deal with a range of issues that are extremely important to me and that impact the lives of all New Yorkers. I will fight for and demand, with bipartisan support, that bills important to the LGBT community come to the floor for a vote – and pass. The June 8th coup may have delayed equality, but it will not stop it.”
And so it ends for now. Rallies, marches, vigils, action days, bus trips, protests, letter writing campaigns, digital activism...all brought to a fevered pitch within moments of a vote...only to be brought crashing down by asinine infighting among criminals, homophobes, Christianists, and idiots of every description. My first thought upon receipt of the above was for Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell, who will once again have to stand at that podium in Albany and defend his own marriage equality bill.

We WILL remember this come election time. OH YES, WE WILL.
