Asshat Of The Day - Matthew Vadum

"Why are left-wing activist groups so keen on registering the poor to vote? Because they know the poor can be counted on to vote themselves more benefits by electing redistributionist politicians. Welfare recipients are particularly open to demagoguery and bribery. Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals. It is profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country -- which is precisely why Barack Obama zealously supports registering welfare recipients to vote. Encouraging those who burden society to participate in elections isn't about helping the poor. It's about helping the poor to help themselves to others' money. It's about raw so-called social justice. It's about moving America ever farther away from the small-government ideals of the Founding Fathers." - Matthew Vadum, writing for American Thinker.

Wingnuts To "Crash" Netroots Nation

A long list of repulsive anti-gay scumbags will gather here in Minneapolis this weekend "in defiance" of the Netroots Nation convention. Confirmed to attend: Andrew Breitbart, Michelle Malkin, Michele "Crazy Eyes" Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Herman "Gays Are Sinners" Cain, Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli, and GOProud's Jimmy LaSalvia. GOProud won't be allowed to actually participate, of course, but they'll be holding a happy hour in one of the Netroots host hotels. (This one, in fact. Hmm, about that JMG meetup...)

ALBANY: Outed And Indicted Anti-Gay Sen. Carl Kruger Shunned By Lawmakers

Days after being released on bail for federal corruption charges, anti-gay and newly outed NY state Sen. Carl Kruger returned to Albany where his fellow lawmakers are now treating the once powerful Kruger like the steaming cesspool of a human that he is. The New York Times issues this blistering observance:
Mr. Kruger, his head down, again declined to speak to reporters. He piled into an elevator and stood, completely silent, as the elevator stopped, floor by floor, and people got on and off. Then he took an underground passageway from the Legislative Office Building to the Capitol. No one spoke to him. People stared, the way people stare when trying to seem as if they are not staring. Then another elevator — which seemed to take an afternoon to open its doors. Mr. Kruger’s every action was watched, his every embarrassment noted. On the Senate floor, he had to figure out where he was supposed to sit. The loss of his committee rank also lost him a prominent place. Mr. Kruger instead slouched in a seat in the back.
For now Kruger will remain in office while he and his wretched gynecologist boyfriend await trial on bribery and money laundering charges. He has been stripped of his post as the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, an office typically filthy with favor-seeking lobbyists as the legislature hammers out the budget. Yesterday he was to issue an apology to the Senate for the "distraction" of his arrest, but that speech was canceled after many refused to attend.

Scumbag Ken Mehlman Factoid

Don't forget for one fucking minute that it was Ken Mehlman who presided over the Republican Party while the GOP ensured that anti-gay items would be on MANY state ballots in order to drive homophobes to the polls. From Marc Ambinder's Atlantic column:
Mehlman said at the time that he could not, as an individual Republican, go against the party consensus. He was aware that Karl Rove, President Bush’s chief strategic adviser, had been working with Republicans to make sure that anti-gay initiatives and referenda would appear on November ballots in 2004 and 2006 to help Republicans. Mehlman acknowledges that if he had publicly declared his sexuality sooner, he might have played a role in keeping the party from pushing an anti-gay agenda.
As a commenter astutely observed in the post below this one, you don't have be GAY or OUT to know that discrimination and bigotry is wrong. Don't let Mehlman's "personal journey" babble snow you.

TORONTO: Christian Activists Try To Drive Gay Couple Out Of The Neighborhood

Dan Savage tips us to this bit of scumbaggery out of Toronto.
The commissary at Highfield Road Gospel Hall must have been fresh out of mind-your-own-business last night, because nine of God's hand-picked mouthpieces allegedly found themselves outside of the home of a Leslieville gay couple, praying for the men's unsolicited salvation. Residents of the Dundas and Greenwood area stepped up in support of the unidentified targets, asking the holy rollers to move on and leave the neighbourhood in peace. "We have an authority to preach the gospel," claims one worshiper in a video clip captured by nearby resident Geoffrey Skelding. "We've been doing this seven years." Though the church members didn't explicitly admit that they had chosen that particular house because it housed a gay couple, Skelding says that many street residents are convinced that's the reason, especially based on the church group's history of door-to-door evangelism on the street. "Talking with my neighbours, I learned that a lesbian couple left the area because of this group," Skelding told Torontoist. "They do come to the area and knock on doors and tell people they are sinners."
Highfield Road Gospel Hall welcomes your calls of support at 416-288-0389.

Fake Pediatricians Group Dumps Rekers

You've really got to be a scumbag when other scumbags won't be seen with you. After being disavowed by the Family Research Council (which he co-founded) and by NARTH, for whom he wrote extensively and sat on their board of directors, Dr. George Rekers has now been dumped by that fake pediatricians group fronted by NARTH members. Wayne Besen reports at Truth Wins Out:
The American College of Pediatricians (ACP) has dumped George “rent boy” Rekers from its “Pediatric Psychosocial Development Committee”. Until now, the organization was one of the few anti-gay groups to stick by the disgraced charlatan. This is an important development because The American College of Pediatricians recently launched an anti-gay website, Facts About Youth, that was bereft of basic truth and objective reality. The ACP also sent letters promoting their propaganda to more than 10,000 school superintendents across America.
Man overboard!

Perez Hilton Is Worse Than You Thought

If you think your opinion of Perez Hilton couldn't be any lower, you'll probably change your mind after reading what he tells Advocate writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis about his dust-up with the Black Eyed Peas, during which he called their lead vocalist a "faggot."
But Perez tells me that, in the heat of the moment that night, he almost chose to use a different word. “I thought about calling him the n word,” he says over the phone a week after the incident, “but I thought the f word was even worse. I was so filled with hate at that moment because I was hated on so much, and I reacted in the worst way possible. Then I went on to make a bunch of other mistakes. I shouldn’t have made the video. I shouldn’t have released so many statements. But what’s come out of all of this is that I’ve learned so much about myself, and I’m in a much better place. I’m actually thankful that it happened."
Impressive! He only "thought about" using the n-word! He restrained his racism! Hilton goes on to compare himself to Madonna, saying that like her, he will "soldier on" no matter how much he is hated. That's a lot of soldiering.

Numerous Wingnut Groups Join Forces To Create Massive Anti-Gay Group

Ex-Gay Watch points us to a Reuters story noting the formation of the Freedom Federation, a massive coalition of anti-gay groups who are joining forces to create one giant swirling cesspool of hate.
The Freedom Federation is a new and unique federation of some of the largest multi-ethnic and transgenerational faith-based organizations in the country committed to plan, strategize, and work together on common interests within the Judeo-Christian tradition to mobilize their grassroots constituencies and to communicate faith and values to the Religious, social, cultural, and policymaking institutions.
Among the groups joining the Freedom Federation:
American Association of Christian Counselors, American Family Association, Americans for Prosperity, Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), Campaign for Working Families, Catholics Online, Concerned Women for America, Conservative Action Project, Eagle Forum, Exodus International, Faith and Action, Family Research Council, High Impact Leadership, Liberty Alliance Action, Liberty Counsel, Liberty University, Life Education and Resource Network (LEARN), Marc Nuttle, Morning Star Ministries, National Clergy Council, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Renewing American Leadership, Strang Communications, Teen Mania, The Call to Action, Traditional Values Coalition, Vision America
Tony Perkins, Matt Barber, Phyllis Schafly, Ruben Diaz, James Dobson and all those other miserable, unhappy, destructive horrible people in one room. Shudder.

Anti-Obama Racism From Values Voters Summit And Family Research Council

Well, the lovely Christers at the Values Voters Summit sure don't hide their racism very well, do they?
Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed "offensive material." The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

David Nammo, executive director of the lobbying group FRC Action, said summit organizers were told the boxes were a parody of Obama's policy positions but had not examined them closely.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama's politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the old image of the pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian. On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" that says it can serve "4 or more illegal aliens." The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?"
Not pictured: The side flap which shows a caricature of Rev. Jeremiah Wright portrayed as a "missing person" with his quote, "God damn America." Even the readers at Christianity Today are outraged, that's how far out of touch these so-called "values" Christianists are.

From the Obama Waffles site:
  • Amaze and mystify your liberal friends
  • Great conversation starter for your desk at work
  • Serve for breakfast after the election . . . especially if your candidate wins!
  • The souvenir conservatives crave . . . and liberals dread
  • The perfect gift for a liberal friend who has everything . . . given to him by the government, of course.
Complete scumbagginess and completely predictable.
