Cruel Irony: Obamacare Opponent Thomas Peters Needs Money For Medical Care

Prior to the July swimming accident that left him a quadriplegic, when NOM communications director Thomas Peters wasn't tweeting against gay marriage, he was issuing regular denouncements of Obamacare.  But now that he's at the literal mercy of our current broken medical system,  a campaign for donations will be launched across social media later this week. I doubt that the irony of this situation weighs much on the minds of his supporters - after all, one of the linchpins of the anti-Obamacare arguments is that "society" and not the government should provide. Among the items that Peters needs help paying for are prescriptions, home health aides, and most ominously, his COBRA premium, which suggests that he's already lost his regular insurance coverage as an employee of NOM. I don't know how much better Peters' situation would be had Obamacare been in full effect when he suffered his injury, but I doubt it would be worse. The goal of this week's fundraiser is $25,000, which is a tiny fraction of what NOM has spent just in the last few months in their failed attempts to thwart the civil rights of Thomas Peters' fellow Americans.

Hissey Fit

"I don't really like gay people," sniffs GOProud member Matt Hissey. "Stereotypical gay people frustrate me," he adds with a dramatic toss of his frosted blond hair before launching into an attack on nellie men who need to be more "normal and straight-acting."

UPDATE: JMG readers Vincent and Damian remind us that this isn't the first time Hissey has appeared on this blog.

Quote Of The Day - Sarah Palin

"Did you ever wonder where the producers of American Idol come up with the seemingly endless supply of people who can't sing but are deluded enough to get up in front of a national television audience and screech out a song anyway?" - Sarah Palin, from her coming book America By Heart.

The Definition Of Assholism

"Two adults who are consenting and who are like-minded and within their mental capacities should be allowed to be with each other. I think it's an outrage." - Anti-marriage equality NY Sen. Hiram Monserrate, clearly oblivious to the meaning of hypocrisy, complaining that a court order prevents him from seeing the woman whose face he slashed with a broken glass.

Monserrate escaped felony charges when his girlfriend recanted her statements to police, but still received three months probation, 250 hours of community service, and one year of anger management classes. He maintains that he will retain his seat in the NY Senate. His complaint about the order of protection comes halfway through the below clip.

Photo Of The Day

Free Republic founder Jim Robinson attended today's "anti-Obamacare" rally in Washington DC on his Medicaid-provided wheelchair. Robinson does not know the meaning of irony.

Ironic Quote Of The Day

"One characteristic of cults is that they strongly believe they alone are right in their beliefs and everyone else is wrong. Thus they reject the central truths of the Bible that Christians have held in common for almost 2,000 years and substitute their own beliefs for the clear teaching of Scripture." - Billy Graham.

Irony Overload: Hottie Reality Show Contestant Complains About Sexism

The Irony Meter flashed into "You've GOT To Be Kidding Me" territory when a certain reality show contestant complained about the sexist treatment of Sarah Palin by the media. Because reality shows never cast model-perfect young women to cavort nearly naked around the Australian outback. Elizabeth Hasselbeck is only on that stage because she worked the sexist system that she now complains about. People in glass tube tops shouldn't throw coconuts. Or whatever it is that falls out the trees in Australia.

Sharpton-Thurmond Connection

Reseachers at Ancestry.com have uncovered proof that political gadfly and relentless muckraiser Al Shapton is a descendant of a slave owned by the family of late Sen. Strom Thurmond, one of the most rabid foes of desegregation and civil rights. After his death, it was revealed that Thurmond had fathered a biracial child with his family's housekeeper. Sharpton calls this latest revelation the most "shocking" news of his life. Thurmond was the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history, at almost 48 years. Sharpton has been irritating New Yorkers since dinosaurs ruled the earth.
