This Is A "Fractured Eye Socket"
Back in August, demented St. Louis-based teabagger Jim Hoft published repeated claims that "inside sources" had informed him that Darren Wilson had suffered a grievous "fractured orbital socket" during a "severe beating" by Michael Brown. Holf's claims rocketed around Teabagistan even though some of his own readers quickly figured out that the X-ray Hoft had posted was actually lifted out of a University of Iowa medical textbook. Today Hoft updated one of his several "fractured orbital socket" posts from August with the above photo, which was released yesterday, and a new headline: "Officer Darren Wilson Suffered Severe Facial Contusions After Severe Beating During Mike Brown Attack."

Ferguson Decision: 9PM ET
UPDATE: No Indictment
VIDEO: Live-streaming from the streets of Ferguson.
UPDATE: Apparently Twitter shot Michael Brown.
UPDATE II: The NCLR reacts.
We vacillate between heartbreak and outrage at the decision from the grand jury. Injustice is too tame a word for what today’s decision represents. The fact that an unarmed black youth can be fatally shot by a police officer with no accountability or consequence is a chilling commentary on the worth afforded to young, black lives and the sorry state of racial justice in this country. We stand with our colleagues in the broader civil rights community in condemning the grand jury decision, and send our strength and support to the family and friends of Michael Brown and the entire Ferguson community as they continue to grieve their tragic loss. We also urge the Department of Justice to take action to address the longstanding history of racialized intimidation and discrimination by the Ferguson police.UPDATE III: Lambda Legal reacts.
While there will be debate and disagreement about the facts that led to the grand jury decision announced today in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by Police Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, MO, there is no debate about the facts that a terrible tragedy took place and that another unarmed young black man lost his life at the hands of a police officer. Around the country, we continue to witness similar tragedies and loss of life that have resulted from the deadly combination of racism, police profiling, excessive use of lethal force and a general disregard for the lives of black and brown people.UPDATE IV: HRC reacts.
We mourn Michael Brown and every victim of police violence by continuing to work for justice -- for better policing and fairer laws. As an organization fighting for the rights of LGBT people and people living with HIV, we know that bias and prejudice can lead to injustice. We believe that these issues must be addressed in a systemic way and that regardless of one decision, all of us must be active participants in holding law enforcement agencies accountable for ending the unchecked assault on the lives of all of our communities that are marginalized and criminalized -- whether on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression or economic status. We support U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice in the continued investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown and the policing practices in Ferguson.
Michael Brown’s family and the American people deserve to have this case fully adjudicated in a public trial. Today’s deeply disappointing decision by the grand jury denies them that opportunity. Until we as a nation make a meaningful commitment to ending police profiling—and to fully prosecuting individual cases of brutality—the kind of violence that ended Michael Brown’s life will only continue. As advocates for equality, it’s our job to show solidarity with a growing national movement to break this cycle of police violence. While we cannot begin to imagine the pain that the Brown family is facing at this moment, we send our thoughts, prayers and condolences to them during this heartbreaking and difficult time. We also stand in solidarity with the family's encouragement of peaceful protests and reflection following this decision.

Editorial Of The Day
The Charlotte News-Observer has taken a swipe at North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis over his opposition to enacting same-sex marriage. Tillis is attempting to unseat US Sen. Kay Hagan.
Write the check, Mr. Tillis. If you want to continue North Carolina’s defense of its same-sex marriage ban, even after the U.S. Supreme Court implicitly rejected it and other bans Monday, have at it. If you want to keep fighting a fight that for all practical and legal purposes has been decided, go for it. But pay for it. Don’t spend North Carolina’s money doing so. Don’t waste tax dollars on outside attorneys that N.C. lawmakers have said you can use to intervene “on behalf of the General Assembly” in legal challenges of state laws. That’s apparently what you’re planning, given your reaction Monday to the Supreme Court’s decision to let stand lower court rulings striking down same-sex marriage bans. One of those rulings, on a Virginia law, came from the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. That decision applies to North Carolina, too.The above editorial has given local anti-gay activist Michael Brown an enormous case of the sadz.
In other words, Mr. Tillis: It’s over. You can disagree with the Supreme Court, but you should follow the lead of your attorney general Roy Cooper, who recognizes the legal futility of fighting. Better yet, look to your governor, Pat McCrory, who told reporters Monday that while he didn’t like the justices’ decision, he believes he must respect it. Any other course is a waste of time. It’s an irresponsible use of state resources. It’s a cynical play for conservative votes in your U.S. Senate race. It’s one last slap at homosexuals in North Carolina. It’s not, however, something that N.C. taxpayers should sponsor. If you want to keep up the battle, feel free. But write the check yourself. Or maybe your campaign can pick up the tab.
In what sounded more like a gay activist screed in a high-school publication than a serious editorial in a major newspaper, the Charlotte Observer has officially declared war on people of faith and conservative moral values, mocking those who believe there is the slightest rational reason to resist the radical redefinition of marriage. Making no attempt to hide its disdain for the conservative, historic position, and gleefully mocking the views of the majority of North Carolinians, the editorial begins with three sentences ending in exclamation points – when is the last time you have seen that in a major editorial? – deriding the idea that there could be any negative consequences to redefining marriage.Brown is infamous for leading hundreds of red-shirted Christians in their annual disruption of Charlotte Pride.

"Ex-Gays": Shut Up, Lady Gaga
Brian Tashman writes at Right Wing Watch:
An advertisement for ex-gay activist David Kyle Foster’s movie, “Such Were Some Of You,” ran during today’s edition of “The 700 Club.” The clip featured activists Michael Brown and Anne Paulk, and one young man who exclaimed: “I have to say, Lady Gaga, shut up. I was not born this way.” Foster has warned of gay brainwashing in schools and divine punishment for gay rights, insisting that he changed his sexual orientation after “sleeping with 1,000 men.”

Charlotte Pride: The Benhams Failed
Ten years ago the Benham brothers joined anti-gay activist Michael Brown in demanding that the Charlotte City Council ban gay pride events. David Benham: "This is filth, this is vile, and should not be allowed in our city." In more recent years I've reported on Brown's annual invasion of Charlotte Pride during which hundreds of his red-shirted Coalition Of Conscience followers march into the event with signs and promises of an eternal writhing agony in a lake of fire.
From Charlotte Pride:
Despite their best attempts — regularly coming back to protest Pride events with their father — Charlotte Pride has not been pushed into a closet and our community has not been ignored by city leaders. The Benham brothers and their family tried to silence us. They wanted us in the grave! Instead, they’ve only made us stronger, but we need your support to keep growing and to ensure no one ever tries to silence us again.
Protesters like the Benham brothers have dwindled in number each year, and Charlotte Pride has grown from just a few thousand 10 years ago to over 80,000 people over two days last year. With our success, the Benhams’ father even tried suing the city over our festival permits! But City Attorney Bob Hagemann successfully defended the city and told WFAE that Charlotte Pride is “an economic development benefit to the city and an entertainment opportunity for tens of thousands of people.
Won’t you help us? Donate directly today, or schedule your donation to coincide with National Give Out Day on May 15, when you’ll join thousands of community members just like you in supporting the LGBTQ community causes closest to your heart. Charlotte Pride isn’t dead. It hasn’t been pushed in the grave. We’ve never been denied a city permit, and our voices keep growing stronger, louder and prouder with each passing year. Let’s show the Benham brothers what true equality and community looks like. Donate today or on Give Out Day on May 15 and help make the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade and all our many future events in years to come a success on which no amount of protesters can ever put a damper.”

Popular Christian Musician Backs Gay Marriage, Backlash Already Underway
Jars Of Clay vocalist Dan Haseltine has been tweeting numerous messages of support for same-sex marriage this week and anti-gay crackpots like Michael Brown are furious.
This really boggles the mind. When you’re sliding down a dangerous slippery slope, you don’t say, “Give me one good reason we’re in danger, other than the fact that we’re careening down this deadly slope.” No. You grab hold of something to stop your fall and then figure out how to climb back to solid ground. Does this gifted artist not realize that the only reason we’re talking about redefining marriage today is because we are well down that slope already? This is the day of full-blown incestuous relationships on popular TV shows like Game of Thrones; of other shows glorifying polyamory (married and dating!), polygamy (from Big Love to Sister Wives to My Five Wives), and teen pregnancy; of news reports about the “wedding” of three lesbians. It is the day of almost half of all first-time American mothers having their babies out of wedlock, with cohabitation rates up more than 700% since 1960, and it is against this backdrop that talk of same-sex “marriage” has become prominent. Do we really want to accelerate the destruction of marriage?Jars Of Clay have won three Grammys for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. (Tipped by JMG reader Chris)

Christian Boycotts Are Righteous, Gay Boycotts Are Intolerant: Volume 87
"Now is the time for every church that works with World Vision, every Christian musician and artist that partners with World Vision, and every believer that supports World Vision to inform them that they have made a terrible choice and that they will no longer have your support. And for every child who will fall through the cracks because of World Vision’s betrayal of its Christian principles, I say to Richard Stearns and those who made this decision together: You will have to answer to God." - Anti-gay evangelist Michael Brown, writing one week ago for Charisma News.
"We’ve heard it for years now from gay activists: 'You need to be tolerant and inclusive. You need to embrace diversity.' The only problem is that in reality, tolerance, inclusivity and diversity only go one way—and pity the person who dares challenge that narrow and exclusive way. [snip] Perhaps after serving some time in a tolerance re-education camp, [Mozilla CEO Brendan] Eich will be deemed fit to lead the company. And perhaps he can explain to us how, in keeping with his profession of 'inclusiveness,' he is actually supporting those employees who, for religious or other reasons, supported Proposition 8, as he once did. Or does inclusion go only one way? As I’ve said on a number of occasions in the last few years, Orwell would be proud." - Anti-gay evangelist Michael Brown, writing yesterday for Charisma News.

Wingnuts Turn On Rand Paul, Part Two
"By minimizing the massive implications of redefining marriage — this is not the kind of issue you 'agree to disagree' on — Sen. Paul indicates a fundamental lack of understanding of the inevitable results that will follow should marriage be redefined on a national level. These results include the continued erosion of our freedoms of religion, speech and conscience (churches and Christian leaders, don’t imagine for a moment that these issues will not be forced on you in the near future); more and more gay activist curricula in our children’s schools; the very real potential for the further redefining of marriage (note well that the same media that has been celebrating homosexuality for the last couple of decades is now celebrating polygamy—the newest show is My Five Wives—and polyamory); and even challenges to basic gender distinctions. The fact that he is presently at or near the top of the Republican heap is downright scary." - Anti-gay evangelist Michael Brown, writing for Charisma.

PERU: Evangelist Michael Brown Exports Anti-Gay Hatred To South America
Jeremy Hooper reports for GLAAD:
The sad trend of American anti-LGBT activists traveling across the globe in order to "warn" them from making the pro-LGBT "mistakes" of America continues. The latest example comes from Peru, where vehemently anti-LGBT activist Michael Brown recently spoke to local members of congress, as well as passed out copies of his propaganda book, A Queer Thing Happened to America. This new trend is chilling, frankly. From Jamaica to France to Russia, and many map stops in between, a who's who of American anti-LGBT activists, feeling defeated and increasingly marginalized here at home, are seizing the chance to stir the pot in any nation that might be willing to see them as soothsayers. It is, to the letter, the strategy we saw in Uganda a handful of years ago, when Scott Lively and other Americans started dropping into the nation and telling locals how downright awful we LGBT Americans are. We all know how that one played out.

Quote Of The Day - Michael Brown
"Dear Mr. Clinton, with all respect to the office of the president which you held for 8 years, I must say that it is not just ironic that you are now asking the Supreme Court to overturn the legislation you signed into law 17 years ago. It is downright tragic. May I ask you, sir, if 17 years have changed the nature of men and women, of mother and fathers and children, of the essential elements of a family? Have 17 years changed multiplied thousands of years of human history? Have 17 years changed fundamental faith values embraced by several billion people worldwide?
"Do you honestly believe, Mr. Clinton, that any of the framers of the Constitution countenanced a day in our great nation when men would be marrying men and women marrying women, and in the name of the Constitution, at that? And since when did our Constitution guarantee the government’s endorsement of all romantic attractions and sexual behaviors? And are you genuinely unaware that redefining marriage is just the tip of the iceberg of a massive societal transformation in the name of LGBT rights, including the undoing of gender distinctions?" - Anti-gay activist Michael Brown, writing for Town Hall.

Michael Brown: The Gays Have Won
"I’m not in the least bit surprised by the victories of the 'gay revolution.' In fact, when I first became involved in this specific aspect of the 'culture wars' less than 9 years ago, I saw back then that our side had already lost the battle and that gay activism had won the day. So, these recent developments don’t faze or surprise me in the least. From day one, my trust was in God, not people, and that’s where my trust remains. Attempts to redefine marriage and family and to normalize different sexual orientations may have their day, but that day will pass. In the end, I can truly thank gay activists for helping us understand their world better – including the pain of bullying and the unique struggles they have endured – and for that, I am grateful. And I can admire their zeal and courage, even while differing with their goals. But just as they didn’t throw in the towel when they were a tiny, vilified, minority, much less we will throw in the towel when their revolution seems to be winning the day. This too shall pass." - Anti-gay activist Michael Brown, who says he's still going to fight against gay rights even though he knows we've already won.

Quote Of The Day - Michael Brown
"First, gay activists came out of the closet; Second, they demanded their 'rights'; Third, they demanded that everyone recognize those 'rights'; Fourth, they want to strip away the rights of those who oppose them; Fifth, they want to put those who oppose their 'rights' into the closet. I have often been ridiculed for laying out this progression, but it is unfolding in front of our eyes, with a massive shift taking place in just the last year. And with the president of the United States declaring at his second inaugural speech that homosexuality (and more) is equivalent to gender and skin color, a line has been drawn in the sand. And that line in the sand will soon become a line in the courts and law books to the point that anyone who does not affirm homosexual practice will be codified as a bigot or worse." - Anti-gay activist and preacher Michael Brown, writing for Townhall.
